Liverpool Round-Up, French Top Scorer to Join, Lucas Out, Everton Groundshare & Reina Call for Patience

It’s been a busy day for Liverpool news wise with the club linked with a number of potentinal January moves as well as a number of departures. The poor start to the season has led to much criticism of the club both on and off the pitch which has prompted Pepe Reina to defend Roy Hodgson and call for some much needed patience from the Anfield faithful.

Van der Vaart: Spurs Own Answer to Fabregas, Lampard & Gerrard

Tottenham fans must be overjoyed with what they’ve seen of Rafael Van der Vaart so far in his displays at West Brom and Werder Bremen. The £8m signing has shown glimpses of his obvious talent despite an obvious lack of fitness and looks a real bargain. After all, despite a difficult spell both for Real Madrid and for his country, the Dutchman has maintained an excellent reputation as both a creative and goal scoring midfielder.

Alan Hansen’s Premier League Preview: Blackburn v Arsenal

Arsenal took Blackpool apart last Saturday at the Emirates Stadium but they face a real test of their title credentials at Ewood Park this weekend. The Seasiders were ruthlessly dismantled at times but Arsene Wenger’s team will find that Blackburn are a far more organised team on their own patch. Sam Allardyce has built a strong efficient side that possesses a strong record at home, so the Gunners are going to have to show they can compete physically if they are going to get anything from their trip.

Alan Hansen’s Premier League Preview: Tottenham v Wigan

Harry Redknapp’s team finally qualified for the group stages of the Champions League on Wednesday with a thumping 4-0 win over Young Boys. The season has started very brightly for Tottenham and it looks set to improve as next up at White Hart Lane is a Wigan side rooted at the bottom of the Premier League. The Latics won’t relish this trip to North London, they’ve conceded 10 goals already this season and suffered a 9-1 thrashing last time they made the trip. The North Londoners may not score nine this time but in terms of Premier 10 ‘home bankers’ I find it hard to back against anything other than a convincing home win for Spurs.

Alan Hansen’s Premier League Preview: Arsenal v Blackpool

Blackpool’s fairytale story continued on the opening day of the 2010/11 campaign with an emphatic 4-0 win at the DW Stadium. In all honesty Ian Holloway’s team should have won by even more as they created chance after chance. However, next up is a real test of their Premier League credentials with a trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.

Alan Hansen’s Premier League Preview: Stoke v Tottenham

Tottenham endured a miserable performance over in Berne in midweek which was in complete contrast to their opening day display against Manchester City which they really should have won. Next up they face a Stoke team smarting from their defeat at Wolves which will put Harry Redknapp’s team under severe pressure ahead of their all-important 2nd leg against Young Boys.

Flamini: Former Gunner to Replace Mascherano at Anfield?

Reports in both France and Italy today claim that Liverpool have made an offer to sign AC Milan’s disgruntled former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini. The 26-year-old has endured a disappointing time in Italy since moving on a free transfer in 2008 as he’s struggled to maintain a first team place and often been forced to play as a full-back. After making just 14 league starts last season and losing his place in the French international squad, the player is expected to move and Anfield could be his next destination.

Aiden McGeady: Celtic Winger In, Milner Out at Aston Villa

Martin O’Neill has strongly hinted that he is interested in bringing in his former Celtic player Aiden McGeady this summer. The Aston Villa manager is set to lose James Milner to Manchester City in a reported £24m deal and is expected to spend those funds on the likes of Robbie Keane and he may be joined by Celtic’s flying winger McGeady. Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has been strongly linked with the Republic of Ireland international in the past but his interest may have cooled.

Matias Defederico: The ‘New Messi’ on West Ham & Sunderland Hitlist

West Ham and Sunderland are reportedly preparing bids for the Argentinian starlet Matias Defederico who has been labelled the ‘new Lionel Messi’ in his homeland after a starring role in Huracan’s surprise Clausura league title win in 2009. The starlet has struggled since moving to Brazilian outfit Corinthians and after one goal in 17 league appearances (10 starts), Defederico is expected to be sold with Avram Grant and Steve Bruce ready to take a chance on him.

Hernanes: Liverpool & Man United Chase Dazzling £8.4M Brazilian Playmaker

Interest is mounting for Brazilian hot property Hernanes who is strongly linked with a move to Italy but has also attracted the interest of a number of Premier League sides. Liverpool are the latest club to be linked with the playmaker in the Brazilian press with claims that Roy Hodgson will step up his chase for the talented South American by financing the move with the sale of a number of fringe players and Javier Mascherano. However, despite having his fingers burnt by Brazilian midfield flops Anderson and Kleberson, Sir Alex Ferguson is also a keen admirer and for £8.4m should not be too costly for Manchester United.
