£15million rated West Ham Striker Set to Join Tottenham

Is Deano on the Move this Summer?West Ham’s peroxide haired striker Dean Ashton is rumoured to be a summer transfer target for Tottenham. As Dimitar Berbatov looks set to depart to a side that would offer him Champions League football, Ashton could be a realistic replacement for the Bulgarian sulker at the Lane.

The Hammers are reported to be looking to cut their high wage bill and the former Norwich and Crewe forward is without a doubt their most marketable asset. The only drawback may be his less than perfect injury record. The hitman has only scored 11 goals this season but has maintained his growing reputation as one of the best targetmen in the Premier League. What the player lacks in mobility and pace he makes up for with his hold up skills and aerial ability. He could offer Tottenham a more reliable yet less glamorous proposition to Berbatov but whether West Ham will want to sell to their rivals is debatable.

Do you think this story has any credence to it seeing that the Irons finished higher than Spurs last season? Would Tottenham fans be pleased with this acquisition and would Hammers fans see a move as good business for a player signed for just £7.25million just over 2 years ago? Let’s hear your views.

  1. Terry Says:

He would be a great signing for spurs if he can prove his fitness, i think he would have no problem making the step up to the next level. The Hammers are going nowhere so it would be a good move for him too to join a club with ambition. Perhaps we can flog them Bent in exchange lol

  2. Jimmy Says:

Another splendidly lazy piece of journalism courtesy of the Daily Mail. Ashton would most likely leave for a big club, but would have to prove his fitness which is questionable.

  3. gavin Says:

I don’t see this myself, I am a hammers season ticket holder and it is a clear step backwards joining spurs. if he leaves it must be to a big club & champions league football. lets face it, without the carling cup ramos has been average at best & I know of many spurs fans who are not at all happy with him as a manager. Deano is not on big money at west ham so it’s not a case of trimming the wage bill.

  4. John Wessels Says:

definately a good proposition but his injury record is scary. I agree that he can jump to the next level and Marcos Alvarez, our fitness coach, can assist with his injury worries.

I thought our best signing last transfer window was Jonothan Woodgate. He seems to have settled quickly and was our Carling Cup match winner.

Ashton can make the same difference upfront

  5. Trevor Says:

Yeah he could “make the step up” to the bottom half of the league, MUGS!!!! he’s just asked for an extended contract but he’s gonna take a step down in class, very likely. Deano is a hero at West Ham and won’t be leaving for totscum or anyone else, i’d have bent but not for £19750000 & £93000pw, LOL at the risk of repeating myself, MUGS!!!!!!!!!!

  6. jon.london colney Says:

total rubbish.stop printing speculation and keep to the facts.

  7. jonnyhammer Says:

Deluded, arrogant, objectionable… They should be on the Spuds club crest given how often you lot display these traits. Spurs a step up ? This is classic comedy too! When will you lot get over yourselves and realise you are just a small club near Arsenal that everyone dislikes intensely. You finished below the Hammers this season and you’ll probably do the same next year…

  8. matt Says:

terry, shut up you prat, West ham are a club on the up, we would never sell you ashton or any other 1st teamers. Bent was a good player until you got your hands on him, why would ashton want that. If you need another striker you should have kept Defoe. You are welcome to Eto too, replace a sulker with a sulker(well done)

  9. Denis Mcallister Says:

There,s no way we should our only striker to anyone if we are to improve next season, unless curbishley is happy with mid table again.

  10. gettingthereslowly Says:

this is just not going to happen

  11. gavin Says:

If ashton does move it would only be for champions league football. Going to spurs will not guarantee that especially as we finsihed above spurs last year & probably will this year unless Ramos is replaced. Lets face it … Ramos was very average in the league this year & without the Carling Cup would have been sacked. Spurs is at best a sideways move for him.

  12. matt Says:

no thanks… think he’s a good player, but he thrives on decent balls into the box, not our style… not only that, 15m?? i’d say keane is worth about that and there not in the same league.

  13. Any Old Iron Says:

    Yids Dream on.

You may have got away with some cheap deals from us in the past but there is no way you will get Ashton. If he were to leave and I seriously doubt he will, it certainly won’t be to a club whose ego is inflated way beyond it’s capabilities.

  14. Paul Says:

This is another piece of lazy journalism. At a fans forum the directors of the club said that the squad was too big and they wanted to move towards the Chelsea model of having a smaller (24 players) squad, all of high quality players. The players going out the door at West Ham will be the fringe players. However, this was picked up by the press and twisted to represent the Hammers needing to sell the big name signings - not true! Furthermore, West Ham announced on the club website last week that they have commenced negotiations with Dean Ashton on extending his contract, which still has two years left to run. Alan Cubishley has also stated that Dean Ashton is not going.

Finally, a recent survey on football rumours showed that the MOST successful paper (The Independent, I believe) had a accuracy rate of just 30%. This is not going to happen, so lets stop the mindless debate about it and concentrate on more substantive rumours.

  15. Scott Says:

Dean Ashton would not leave West Ham for Spurs. West Ham would not sell Dean Ashton to Spurs.
Spurs finished below West Ham, and next season we’ll be challenge each other for a place in Europe. If Man Utd come in for him, we might have to resign to losing him, but not Spurs.

  16. Hayden Says:

Thanks a lot Terry - you’ve just shown us you are the perfect example of a Tottenham fan. An uneducated chav. In case you forget, the Hammers finished above you this season. Cretin. Also - the story - “striker set to join Tottenham” - appalling journalism… Tottenham may well want to make a bid for him, but you have no evidence that he would even consider the move. Terrible.

  17. David Newman Says:

Tottenham are going nowhere more like. Deano will not want to go to a bottom half team. Once we find out how his new contract talks have gone we will see that he will be part of the Hammers plans for the next few years.i do not think even a big team as man u are will turn his head yet.

  18. mark Says:

lol best thing i have heard in ages mate, next level…..what was the last major final u were in…and before u say the league cup, that defo isnt a major cup, its a mickymouse cup, sponsored by disney. did west ham finish above u’s….i mean i wasnt sure. i mean each season u go out and spend 40-50million and for what finishing 11….money well spent. wait till next season mate and u will see how far ahead we really are to u.

  19. Brian Says:

Why would Ashton want to leave West Ham for a bottom half, sinking fast, Premiership side? The story makes no sense; West Ham do want to cut their wage bill but Ashton is not one of the big earners.

  20. Greekos Says:

Would add something different to out attacking line up. If we get Etoo in and get rid of Berba then Ashton wouldnt be the worst signing in the world. My only issue is the price tag. I would say no more than £11 mill he has an inconsistent injury record and his goals tally this season isnt great. Personally I think we should keep Bent over bringing in Ashton.

  21. Joseph Chetcuti Says:

Don`t sell Dean Ashton not to Spurs not to any one, don`t we ever learn. If we want West Ham to go to higher level we have to keep the big names and bring in big names, just look at Spurs what they`r doing nicking off big names to boost their squad,i thought like others that the money problem is something of the past.Don`t let history repeat itself.West Ham till i die!!!

  22. rory Says:

for a team that is going no where. how come spurs finished 11th and us 10th.Ashton would not make a stupid decision and go to a team that want the same ambitions as the team he is at now. if he would leave he would go to a top 4 club and not a top 11

  23. gettingthereslowly Says:

    this is a none starter

  24. Terry Says:

lets get it right the spammers have always and will remain to be a feeder club for the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea. Johnson, Cole, Defoe, Lampard, Carrick, Allen, the list goes on…we are and always have been a far bigger club

  25. rob Says:

biggest load of crap I’ve read 2day. why would he go to the Spurs? I bet we would sell him to Millwall first. but really, we should offer him a big contract with incentives, and watch #9 score goals. cum on Deano sign the dotted line!!
    WHUFC 4 life!!!

  26. D.Luded Says:

West Ham are the best team in the world. No player would ever leave them for another club, especially a london club. West Ham finished above spurs for the first time in years. West Ham clearly are a bigger club as they won the World cup, don’t you know! Biggest achievement is finishing above a team who actually won a trophy and were also playing european football (not just in pre-season…). Bigger club = More capacity, more fans, more trophies, higher league placings, better players. West Ham are clearly a bigger club. Wonder if arsene wenger can see it and not just Mr and Mrs D.Luded in East London… Don’t make me laugh you mugs! Ashton will go to Spurs. The lads got ambition.

  27. Devoidsoul Says:

Oh how you have to love the yids.

Same claims different year, please do carry on showing your the biggest bunch of fickle mugs in the footballing world with these utterly moronic comments.

I’m sitting next to a yid, talks rubbish like any other yid at times but even he is hanging his head in shame as I’m reading some of these comments.

Right thats the response to the morons, now to the real footballing fans - I honestly can’t see this one happening, curbs has announced negotiations are taking place soon and Deano is loved by the fans. I doubt very much on league standings of ‘the table never lies’ he wont want to go sideways.

Unless a big club come in I cant see him leaving with West Ham’s supposed new found ambition, whether that ambition is just talk remains to be seen - new training facilities and ground are a definite though which I feel will also keep him interested in staying.

Conclusion; if he’s happy he’ll stay, if this is pure speculation he’ll stay, if he’s unhappy he may leave to an equal or better placing team, if a champions league club come in he’ll jump ship - ultimately, he will not be going to spurs whether they want him or not.

  28. Bigj Says:

West Ham are Leyton Orient with a couple of FA cups.
    You say we are deluded.
I heard your new sponsor was YoYo biscuits.

  29. LEZ O Says:

ASHTON = no ty!! The mans never 100% fit. Has dubious first touch and is only worth about 6m!! We is looking for players to take us to the next level, class and touch more important then elephants and bulls!!

  30. adam Says:

    tottenham fancy ashton lol

    do me a favor lol

spurs fans are saying no thanks, but deep down they want him, thy really really want him, but they know they cant have him.

West Ham are preparing for a new generation and Dean Ashton is the nucleus. west ham can match any offer from any club. when we get into uefa cup next year, spurs better be scared as we will be bidding for your star players. if we dont bid, then chelsea, arsenal and man utd will secure them which is more realistic.

an spurs linked with eto’o… april fools was ages ago he will be at chelsea with drogba going the other way.

  31. Devoidsoul Says:

After one season of recovery from an career threatening UNAVOIDABLE injury Deano is apparently injury prone??

He has done very well to recover eventually to anything near personal top form in my eyes considering how severe the injury was, also clearly some of these comments about poor first touch etc are from people that haven’t seen much of him at full fitness.

Long may those unfounded opinions last and long live the Deano, claret and blue combination - some pace alongside that lad next season will be great.

The overrated squad that hails under the name of Tottenham (please excuse my language) will finish in a deserved crap position again next year, you once had your mediocre players playing at the best of there ability, that is no longer the case - other than you frontline and Lennons pace (and only his pace) they are nothing but mediocre.

Please note the above does not claim our (West Ham United) squad is better, however SOME of the spud fans talk as if they are miles ahead squad quality wise, other than forwards that is simply not the case.. in regards to best 11 quality I cannot put To^*enham any higher than 9th in the premier league.

  32. lukamodric14 Says:

HAAHAA CLASSIC I LOVE READING HAMMERS COMMENTS….ASHHTON TAKIN A STEP DOWN BY GOING TO SPURS?????????? u jokin……..1..HE AINT GOOD ENOUGH FOR US………….

    YID ARMY
COME ON MODRIC RIP THE PREM UP SON

  33. nightshift Says:

More entertaining than the rumour itslef are some of the comments on here referring to Ashton’s ‘injury record’ - the guy had his ankle broken in a training session for England for pete’s sake. A tough one to come back from, and he suffered what are the usual couple of setbacks most players have when recovering from such a serious injury. In the last 10 or some games of the season as his fitness and confidence have returned we’ve seen the real Deano return. 11 goals for a player who’s been fighting to return to full fitness and playing in a side that have really lacked a creative spark is a bloody good return, and as for the muppet who said he has a ‘poor first touch’ - Jesus Christ, have you actually WATHCHED the guy play???? Anazing the complete lack of any knowledge at all about the player displayed on here.
Any intelligent Spurs fan (and yes I do know some) would have to admit this is a sideways move for Ashton at best, and as we are bloody unlkely to consider any offers for him from a club outside the big 4 (unless Curbishley has lost all sense of reason) this a just more lazy crap rom the Mail. A paper that never loses an opportunity to have a pop at West Ham anyway. Move on everybody…

  34. D.Luded Says:

    Sideways move?
The Wet Spam fans have the cheek to call Spurs fans deluded. Realistically sideways for you is West Brom or Fulham. Don’t try to grab to coat tails of a decent premier league team. Especially one that wasn’t playing Championship football 3 years ago.

  35. nightshift Says:

How can we grab the coat tails of a team that finished below us…?

  36. Devoidsoul Says:

D.Luded, I realise the name is sarcasm but honestly you need to take a reality check - your name is spot on for yourself.

It’d also help if attempts at being funny or sarcastic even had a decent sense of humor behind them.

  37. JMan Says:

You Yids have your own noses so far up your bums that you can’t smell the rubbish you’re spouting. You might have been a big club in the 60s but were in a new century now boys and you just don’t cut it. Wake up a smell the coffee, oops forgot you have to get your noses out of your bums first. Ashton’s going nowhere and there ain’t one player at WHL we would want at UP.

  38. webb Says:

seems pretty obvious to me that these transfer stories surface only when players are looking to negotiate new contracts. michael owen, dean ashton… stories are leaked to the press so a players agent can push for a better contract on the grounds that the player is ‘wanted’ by other clubs. no need for all his shit really. if ashton doesnt get a better deal he may well move but only a real ‘mug’ would get all worked up over transfer stories that convienently appear whilst a player is negotiating a new contract.

  39. Convoy Raider Says:

I feel Dean Aston is the one person u certainly want if spurs are going to conquer the world like they said they would winning the Worthless cup last year and some even said it the game after when they got thrashed at Birmingham. Dean Ashton is a quality player but if spurs are going to want to talk rubbish and think they are good enough for 4th place they are goin to need some much bigger players than him

  40. james Says:

dean ashton would be a good signing for the reserves get to start every week. This whos bigger is pathetic look at the aims of the both clubs being realistic top 6 because out twice out the last 3 seasons we have done and are in europe for the 3rd season i a row while west ham are just hoping that can stay in the top 10 out of the last 3 season 9th 15th and 10th not great and i would go back further but you were in the championship so i can’t also west ham are a much bigger club cause were just a feeder club for them e.g. zamora, etheringon, sheringham aged 40, etc whereas we take their reserves like defoe and carrick.

  41. D.Luded Says:

nightshift. What did you win this season? When did you last qualify for European competition. Will you last more than 4 years in the premierhip? Your biggest achievement was finishing above Spurs. Wow. Congrats, we have a bad season and win a trophy, but suffer the ignomy of finishing below you for once. You reckon you are on a par with Spurs. How? Spurs fans may be deluded about finishing in the top 4. But that is what we strive for, not to finish 10th… Next season usual order will be restored. You will play 40 games in total, all other decent teams will play 50+. Even Fulham had a better chance of playing European football next season than you!

  42. D.Luded Says:

    JMan you mug
Woodgate, Berbatov, Keane, Modric and Hutton. You clearly have better players than these.
McCartney, Gabbidon, Mullins, Zamora and Bellamy are all sought after by the best.

  43. D.Luded Says:

devoidofideas - truth hurts pal. even when said sarcastically.
