Who Should Manchester City’s Richard Dunne Join? Tottenham, Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham or Newcastle
Manchester City centre-half Richard Dunne is reportedly set to leave Eastlands after turning down a new long term contract with the club. The Citizens Captain recently won the club’s Player of the Year award for an astonishing 4th season running and would be sorely missed. There are a number of Premier League clubs interested in the consistent defender with Tottenham, Villa, West Ham and Newcastle leading the chase.
Dunne has a year left on his contract and has been strongly linked to White Hart Lane in recent days but they face tough competition for his services. The Irishman played in 36 of City’s 38 Premier League matches this season (all starts) and rarely underperformed. He formed a superb defensive partnership with young Micah Richards at the heart of the City defence as the club began the season strongly. However after a poor second half of the season and the turmoil surrounding manager Sven Goran Eriksson’s position it now seems likely he’ll leave for pastures new. Dunne has played under 4 City managers in Joe Royle, Kevin Keegan, Stuart Pearce and now Eriksson in his 8 years with the club.
At 28-years-old and with 41 caps (5 goals) to his name whoever signs Dunne will be purchasing a consistent Premier League performer after 323 appearances at this level. So would you like to see the defender at your club? Do you think a move away from City to these interested clubs would be a step down for a player who is already captain? Do you think he is value for money at a reported £5-6million transfer fee? Do City fans worry for the future of the club if first team stars like Dunne want to leave the club? Let’s hear your views.

Come and join the Ramos revolution Dunne, we are the nearest team to break into the top 4…top class manager, bright young stars and your pal Robbie Keane. It’s a done deal!
May 30th, 2008 at 11:53
We don’t need Dunne (Everton fan)
May 30th, 2008 at 11:55
He’s a good player but Everton dont need him tbh. Arsenal should sign him, but probably wont.
May 30th, 2008 at 11:56
@ Yidstar
The nearest team to break into the top 4? I take it you slept through last season and missed the fact that Everton, Villa, Portsmouth, Blackburn, Citeh themselves and even West Ham were all actually closer to the top 4 than Spuds.
Talk about deluded fans, you lot are bigger dreamers than the Geordies!
May 30th, 2008 at 11:57
yidstar, you are not the nearest team to break into the top 4!
you finished 11th last season!
you definitely have a good chance of breaking the top 4 but i think villa, everton and tottenham have an equal chance of breaking into the top 4 but i think it matters what happens over the summer in terms of what players are bought!
From the league table it says that everton are he closest team to break into the top 4!
i would love it if you do really bad again!
May 30th, 2008 at 11:58
@ realist
clearly missing the big picture, i think weve had a change of management and surely off the pitch issues also mean were closer to the top 4
May 30th, 2008 at 12:00
Realist,
Moyles is an amazing manager, without him everton will be fighting relegation because you have no money. Sours have a solid future
May 30th, 2008 at 12:02
I suggest it is who he wants to join, hopefully Spurs. Just so long as he does not sign for NUFC I will be happy
May 30th, 2008 at 12:02
villafan,
You need to worry about selling out your ground first
May 30th, 2008 at 12:03
villa fan-lets face it you would need us to, mug,tbh i’d like anyone to break the top 4,football needs it in general.this site should be called causearow.com. unbelievable
May 30th, 2008 at 12:04
Blog Head,
When did Chris Moyles stop being a DJ and become Everton manager?
Everton have broken their transfer record in successive seasons and will again this summer.
Spurs will be full of optimism but when Dimi goes to Utd or wherever hes going and now you have lost Defoe I cant see you getting higher than 7th next season.
Besides do Everton need another CB with Lescott, Yobo, Jags etc?
I dont think so
May 30th, 2008 at 12:09
To be honest why would he leave City to join any of these clubs…none are bigger than CIty in any way..We are already far better than West Ham and Newcastle..not much between us and SPurs and Villa + Everton had one good season but not much finance..he would be a fool to leave!
May 30th, 2008 at 12:10
toffeman2004,
Come on now, speaking honestly about football you know that Everton cannot outbid Spurs. Its a fact, not a very nice one because I like everton alot, but the fact is we can buy top quality players which give us a slightly better chance then anyone else of breaking the top four. Thats the truth of it
May 30th, 2008 at 12:11
Citizen Smith,
He fancies Robbie Keane
May 30th, 2008 at 12:12
Blog Head,

Your probably right that you could outbid Everton for players, but If a player chose the money over the chance to play in Europe then he isnt a player I would want playing for Everton.
We need players who want to play to succeed not to suck us dry
May 30th, 2008 at 12:13
@Yidstar
WTF?????
Come and join the Ramos revolution Dunne, we are the nearest team to break into the top 4…top class manager, bright young stars and your pal Robbie Keane. It’s a done deal!
How is this true Yidstar??? You finished 30 points behind Liverpool and didn’t even make the top half of the league! Yeah, you have a good side and have got a few quid to splash around but this really isn’t close to challenging the “top 4″, let alone the nearest team pal.
@blog head
You really need to build a decent capacity ground and then find some ex Chelsea fans to come watch you!
May 30th, 2008 at 12:14
we will see toffeeman, funny bout chris moyles lol,we was poor league wise last year due to a number of reasons, still managed to win something though(when did you last?),your manager is good for sure i rate him highly but ours is too n won us a trophy in 4months,we will see when he starts on a level playing field with the players he wants eh?btw i think its good that all you teams right us off after 1bad league campaign won’t be all the pressure on us like it was after our 2 5th place finishes(1withought berba for the record)
May 30th, 2008 at 12:16
Me, myself and I,
Who do you support big nose?
May 30th, 2008 at 12:17
toffee man were in europe too idiot for the 3rd year running
May 30th, 2008 at 12:28
I am not being over confident but we are the biggest of the aforementioned clubs, we have shown the most ambition by far already this summer. Dunne, Modric, Bostock, Dos Santos + keeper and strong defensive midfielder and we will have a superb squad
May 30th, 2008 at 12:30
Why are you talking about “we have £Xm to spend” ???
Surely purchases that may or may not happen in the summer are irrelevant at this current time? Based on the current squads and league positioning from last season, Everton are clearly the strongest team outside the top 4.
Out of the above mentioned clubs, they have the best manager (Moyes), the best defender (Lescott), the best midfielder (Pienaar OR Arteta) (**as Barry will leave Villa**) and the best striker (Yakubu) (**as Berbatov will leave Spurs**)
One or two Tottenham fans need reminding of a few things…
1) Everton went to WHL and won 3-1 last season (without Yakubu, Cahill, Jagielka, Pienaar)
AND
2) The season before last when they finished fifth was only because Everton got robbed at Chelsea on the final day which would have meant Everton finishing fifth.
As for your 2008 Carling Cup - it could quite easily have been a Tottenham-Everton final…
May 30th, 2008 at 12:33
Stevo..only if Everton beat Chelsea which they didn’t! You have some good players but cannot attract the players we can and that’s a fact. Arteta and Cahill are the only 2 players at your club i would have at ours. WIth 3/4 signings and lots of deadwood sales we will be much stronger than Everton
May 30th, 2008 at 12:34
i don’t like all the my club is bigger than your club rubbish but find it just as strange that ya villa’s,evertons etc right us off after 1 season where we lost our manager etc and still won a trophy something none of them have done since god was a boy.still leave them to it i suppose.
May 30th, 2008 at 12:35
Sorry forgot you got into Europe through the cup
Funny to see how quickly the Spurs fans get wound up though.
We last won a trophy in 95
When did you last win the league? lol
Or a European trophy?
But we can argue all we want, only what happens on the pitch next season will decide who finishes where and im confident we will be pushing for 4th again, but im sure spurs fans will be just as confident they will be doing the same and if Ramos buys the right players they may well be and I hope so as it will make for an interesting season.
May 30th, 2008 at 12:36
We had him once and let the Irish drunk go why would we want him again, Is he better then Lescott, Yobo, Baines and Jagielka. I don’t think so.Let him chase the money down in the smoke.
May 30th, 2008 at 12:39
not too many city fans are on here saying they want him to stay but player of the year 4 years running says alot to me!
May 30th, 2008 at 12:41
stevo- everton won at the lane for the first time in over 10 years or something woooo,defender- king will be back next year and is better than lescott as is woodgate, modric will show he’s better that arteta(who i rate) and berbatov hasn’t gone anywhere yet has he?the difference as well being if he does leave we will use the money to get another striker better than yakubu.all in all withought being rude your whole argument is nonsense
May 30th, 2008 at 12:42
he might get in Tottenham’s team…he wouldn’t get in Eveton’s
May 30th, 2008 at 12:42
COME ON YOU BLUES, hOW MANY TIMES HAVE THE YIDS WON THE LEAGUE? ANSWER TWICE! EVERTON HAVE BEEN CHAMPIONS MORE TIMES THAN CHELSEA SPURS WEST HAM ALL PUT TOGETHER. WE ARE THE SCHOOL OF SCIENCE, THE DOGS OF WAR, THE PEOPLES CLUB, SPENT MORE SEASONS IN TOP FLIGHT FOOTBALL THAN ANY OTHER CLUB INCLUDING ARSENAL. WE ARE THE FAMOUS EFC, WE ARE EVERTONIANS AND WE ARE ON OUR WAY BACK INTO THE BIG 4
CHELSEA SPURS DONT MAKE ME LAUGH,
ONLY ONE CLUB IN LONDON CAN COME NEAR TO EVERTON AND THATS ARSENAL

May 30th, 2008 at 12:42
toffeeman-fairplay i honestly have never minded your lot and if we can’t do it hope you can, someone has to like i said earlier.good luck next season mate.
May 30th, 2008 at 12:44
“Spurs the closest team to breaking the top 4 next season…..” remind me where you finished last season??? Bottom half somewhere wasn’t it!!!!????
May 30th, 2008 at 12:45
dunne should stay he has been our best player for four years now, what a player what a captain will certainly be a sad day in manchester if he goes, him and richards make a excellent partnership at the back it would be a big mistake to break them up.The only reason i can see him leaving is for money and i dont think he is that sort of bloke he must stay as we prepare to break into the top 6
May 30th, 2008 at 12:47
john-only one club up north comes comes close to the spurs and thats liverpool…you mate are an idiot ,what a total load of b*****ks

May 30th, 2008 at 12:58
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works to our friends from the lane. Richard Dunne has agreed to join Newcastle.
Thi I’m not a Newcastle or an Arsenal fan trying to wind you lot up. Just got a source very close to the player that all. Please believe me this is true!

May 30th, 2008 at 13:24
john hats off mate i’ve always thoght we had a fair bit in common and in all fairness i usually have a good crack with your fans at the lane ,few beers n that well sound.all the suits etc go down to arsenal n all the real people go to spurs and its def the same from what i’ve witnessed on my travels with you and liverpool anyway good luck next season mate i’m outta here.
May 30th, 2008 at 13:28
Why are Geordies ‘deluded’ and ‘big dreamers’? Unless I’m much mistaken, we are the only club here to have broken up the ‘big 4′ and actually played in the Champs League recently.
Why is so deluded to hope and believe that we can do that again? We’ve got more money than Everton, Spurs, Villa and the rest, so I think we have as good a, if not better, chance than you lot of finishing higher than 5th.
May 30th, 2008 at 13:30
oli-what have you ever won though?
right that really is it gone now
May 30th, 2008 at 13:40
the fact is spurs had a poor season and still won a trophy…Man City, Everton, Villa and Newcastle would bite off their arms for that!
May 30th, 2008 at 13:45

Blog head,
I agree Moyles is a very good manager, but I’m a Villa fan. We outperformed Spuds this season and I expect we will do it again. Anyone who knows anything about MON will be aware that he does his business late in the window - much to our frustration usually - and until then I wouldn’t start crowing about who Spurs have signed. Besides which I think Villa and Everton have shown it’s not all about spending the most but spending the best. Don’t get me wrong Spurs have a very good squad, but on last seasons performance not a very good team.
08/09 should be the best season for a long while..
May 30th, 2008 at 13:48
I agree Realist i think Villa did well but with your small squad i cannot see you doing the same again. If you signed Bentley I think you would have one of the best attacking forces in the PL…young on left too would be different class!

Mate if we sign Bentley i’ll be amazed. More realistic is little Jimmy Milner but tbh I’d be very happy with that. Chuck in Dean Ashton and it would be a fearsome attack - all English too.
Bring on the 6 ‘N 5 rule!
May 30th, 2008 at 14:04
6n5 rule would be ok for us too mate and would absolutely screw the goons!
its all mystic meg as to what will happen next year, if anyone truly knows then pls pass on sat lotto numbers too while your at it.
May 30th, 2008 at 14:12
all you tottenham supporters are dillusional. im just starting to hope whenever i see one of these posts that the players goes anywhere but tottenham. you will never break into the top four. get over urselves. i dont even see you breaking the top six next season so why dont u try for top half.
May 30th, 2008 at 14:17
YOU ARE ALL SOO DILUDED, SINCE NEWCASTLE HAS BEEN IN THE PREMIERSHIP WE HAVE BEEN THE 5TH/6TH(NOTHING INBETWEEN US AND VILLA) BEST TEAM BASED ON POINTS AND PREMIERLEAGUE FINISH’S. AND YET AFTER 1/2 SEASONS IN THE TOP HALF SOME OF YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO CALL NUFC A YOYO CLUB LMAO, BASED ON CURRENT SIZE OF THE CLUB NATIONALLY AND GLOBALLY NEWCASTLE IS THE BIGGEST OUT OF THESE CLUBS (5TH IN PREM). NOT DENYING WERE DOING BAD ATM BUT SOME OF YOU NEED TO GET YOUR HEADS TOGETHER FFS, COMPLETE IDIOCY
*soz 4 caps*
May 30th, 2008 at 14:21
HAHAHA!
Spuds fans do make me laugh!
The do genuinely think they have got a chance of breaking into the top 4! haha!
Why dont you just try to get into the top half first… that reminds me, where did you finish last year? You have great players like Berbatov, Keane, Huddlestone, Lennon, King, Dawson, Robinson, etc, and you can’t even get into the top half! haha. No wonder most of them can’t wait to move to a BIG club. Your manager is a imbecil and your fans are all deluded! West Ham had most of their first team out to injury and still managed to finish in the top half!
WestHamForever!COYI!!!!!
May 30th, 2008 at 14:28
The 6+5 rule would be fine for west ham: green, ferdinand, upson, parker, ashton, etherington, cole, mullins, noble, wright, walker, zamora, quashie, bowyer, tomkins, dyer, sears and davenport all english. Does anybody know whether it includes welsh/scottish/n.irish players?
May 30th, 2008 at 14:28
Arsenal would be screwed
May 30th, 2008 at 15:16
Yeah you have so much talent at West Ham don’t you? loll loll lol
May 30th, 2008 at 16:04
Spurs will break the top four next season. Of course, they will… just after news coverage of UFO landings at wembley stadium!!
You Spuds are truly demented. I’m sure you’ll have a better season next year but it would be hard not to really wouldn’t it?? But top 4, palease! Not in a million years. You’ll be lucky to break into the second mini league of Everton, Villa, Man City, Pompey etc. That would be a far more realsitic goal.
Every year it’s the same old crap from the Spud fans going on about how next season all their massively over expensive new signings will make the difference and they’ll be better than last year, blah, blah, blah!! At least the Everton, Villa and Man City fans have the humility to remain amibitious without coming across as arrogant and deluded!
May 30th, 2008 at 16:22
If he does not want to stay, good riddance we don’t need him as captain…make Micah his replacement and move oN!
May 30th, 2008 at 16:30
spurts are all over full of their usual deluded top 4 nonsense. you guys throw your money around dangerously. take it from a club that knows!
May 30th, 2008 at 16:32
Difference is we can afford it mate….big fanbase, big history, big attraction!
May 30th, 2008 at 16:43
Yeah I’d agree Yidstar, you get quite a good following for a mid to lower level PL club.
May 30th, 2008 at 16:44
jealous Paolo? you should be!
May 30th, 2008 at 16:52
Green with envy, it must be great to be laughed at by the fans of just about every other PL club. Can’t you Spuds just accept that you’re about as likely to break the top 4 as the UK is winning the Eurovision!
May 30th, 2008 at 18:25
Come and join the Ramos revolution, we would be solid at the back then and just a top class defensive midfielder would sure him our defence…the attack will take care of itself….watch out the yids are coming!
May 30th, 2008 at 21:21
Citizen Smith u need 2 seriously look at urself m8 Im a west ham fan + u think MAN CITY r far better than us u r mental u say 2 people wid a brain that man city are far better than west ham u will get laughed at we are better than man city better squad players, just half squad injured + we only finishd 4 sumin like dat points b hind u!!!! anyway we dont need DUNNE we hav upson + anton so he can stay with U CMON U IRONS
May 31st, 2008 at 08:34
All this talk about breaking into the top 4, have a look at the ‘rightresult.com’ and Jeff Winters website and you will see that if Everton had had a fair crack of the whip from the referees last season then we would have finished 4th by a country mile. You will now say that we can all moan about referees but the decisions that went against Everton last season were criminal and we still ended up 5th.
May 31st, 2008 at 15:37
none, he should join sunderland
June 1st, 2008 at 02:00
I didn’t vote as, apart from Portsmouth, and Niall Quinn and Roy Keane at Sunderland, who would certainly love to get him, I believe Arsene Wenger is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding a player, who, according to a number of respected sources, he reportedly very much admires.
Generally in situations where a player is much sought after, there’s often somebody ‘waiting in the wings’, ready to pounce.
