Gomes Linked To Tottenham: Who would you Sign as Number 1?
Tottenham have been linked with a huge list of goalkeepers this summer as Juande Ramos looks to replace his current number 1 Paul Robinson in the Spurs goal. The Spaniard has been linked with numerous candidates for the problem position as the former England first choice’s days at White Hart Lane look increasingly numbered.
The list consists of PSV’s Brazilian stopper Heurelho Gomes, Espanyol’s Cameroon keeper Carlos Kameni, Man City youngster Joe Hart, Rangers Alan McGregor, Portuguese number 1 Ricardo, Brescia’s 6 ft 5 Emiliano Viviano, Celtic’s Artur Boruc, and Wolves Wayne Hennessey.
Gomes is the most recent target after press specualtion has reported that Ramos has missed out on Kameni this summer. However, the Brazilian could cost as much as £9million so won’t come cheap though the way Spurs are spending so far, I don’t expect that to stop their ambitious plans for competing with the top 4 next season.
As press reports link the club to new goalkeepers by the day we want to know which player Spurs fans would target for the number 1 position next season? Let’s hear your views.

Spurs need more than a keeper to get anywhere near the top 4..i hope they keep Paul ‘teflon’ Robinson next season lol

Spurs should be either looking at a very good young keeper who will be at the club for years such as either: Steve Mandada or Neuer of Schalke.
If they want a really experienced goalie then they should go for Coupet or James and buy Hart as a keeper who can challenge and replace them in the future.

If we can afford 9miilion for Gomes, then we should get him. At this stage we need experience to challenge the top 4. Ramos is a manager that wants instant success, he doesn’t believe in 4-5 year plan like Jol. He wants CL next season and he’ll do as much as he can to get there. I hope this is a new era for Spurs. It will be difficult because the top 4 is still spending on quality players. We just bought the wrong players last season, but hopefully Ramos can do his magic and catch up. Remember we came close to 4th place and so did Everton last season. It is not impossible!!

If as all the news articles state, that Robinson is on the way out, then Spurs will need two keepers. I believe that Gomes would be a good choice, but personally I would prefer Boruc as much for his presence (similar to Schmiecal) as his skill. For the second string keeper I would want somebody to push the first choice all the way, so I would like either Hennessy or Hart.

We should go for Shay Given, he will recover from his injuries and will be back to his best before the start of the season. He has been amazing for Newcastle.

Im with u Norman. A cheeky bid 4 Given would b a shrewd piece of business. He has said he needs a fresh challenge and Spurs would b perfect 4 him. A consistent and quality keeper. Then as back up I would bring in either Wayne Hennessy or Joe Lewis as both are young and could learn a lot from Given. Both being tipped as future greats in the game. Also Given and either of these two keepers would cost as much as 1 Gomes or Hart. I like to see Spurs spending big when they need to but they also need to start spending smart.

Gomes is the Brazilian David James..£9m? Fcuk right off, it winds me up that so many Spurs fans think the bloke is any good, we played PSV twice, during both games he never punched clear of his area despite numerous attempts, he often came for crosses….and missed. Fair enough he’s a good shot stopper but if we really wanted a keeper with no ariel ability we’d sign Paul Robinson….oh, hang on…
