Arsenal’s Captaincy Dilemma: Who Would You Choose to Lead the Gunners Next Season?

“Please Let me Keep the Armband Gaffer”After last season’s anti-climatic end to the campaign in which Gunners Captain William Gallas’ credentials for the role were questioned it remains to be seen who’ll Arsene Wenger use as his on field leader for 2008/09. The former Chelsea defender was involved in a number of incidents which has brought his choice as captaincy into question, none more so than his bizarre sit down protest at the end of the draw at Birmingham in March.

After the departure of big personalities Jens Lehmann and Mathieu Flamini the young side may need guidance more than ever. There are a number of candidates for the role if Wenger does replace the French international with both his centre-half partner Kolo Toure and young midfield maestro Cesc Fabregas the prime candidates. However, who do you think should be given the armband or do you think it would be detrimental to the club and the player if Gallas did not carry on in the role? Let’s hear your views.

I think Clichy would make a great captain as all teh players respect him and he has the determination when losing to carry on fighting till the end. He is calm which you need in a captain but willing to fight and bring teh team together and share his enthusiasm for the game.

It’s a hard one age wise gallas is Perfect BUT he’s not a leader at all. “that sit down” it pains me to say it but John Terry would of NEVER did that.

Cesc is out star man we can’t give him the captaincy to, you need a CAp to control the stars and ego’s in the team pick them up when they are down

For me Kolo is the best candidate at the moment he’s loved and respected by the whole team and is one of the untouchables so he knows what we need to do for success !!!

    Its a hard one actually!

Gallas is a good captain but he does have weaknesses (sitting thing was not right) Toure would also be great but he is not the most composed of players. Cesc is not ready and he is a star so it wouldnt work. If Rosicky showed more signs of playing he would be a decent captain i think.

    I reckon keep Gallas though.

  8. HR Says:

King Kolo………..he knows it all and in my opinion is the real captian on the pitch

  9. willie Says:

kolo toure. It’s simple: he has the charisma and spitir of a captain. he leads by example.
