Is Arsenal’s Samir Nasri or Tottenham’s Luka Modric the Better Signing?
North London giants Spurs and Arsenal will have both strengthened their squads by signing two of Europe’s top starlets this summer in the shape of Luka Modric and Samir Nasri. Both players already possess plenty of talent but it’s their unlimited potential that should excite their respective fans next season.
The young French prodigy is set to sign for the Gunners in 10 days time when he returns from holiday as his agent has confirmed today. At just 20-years-old Nasri has already made 121 League appearances for his former club side Marseille and scored 11 goals. He has already been capped 12 times for his country as well as scoring 2 international goals. The young French star was also part of France’s doomed Euro 2008 squad though he only played 29 minutes in total at the tournament.
Nasri won the French Young Player of the Year award in 2007 and great things have been expected of him since he broke into the Marseille first team four seasons ago. Last season was his most productive season in terms of League goals as he struck 6 in 30 matches. He can play anywhere along the midfield but is primarily a creative attacking force.
Tottenham were one of a number of the biggest clubs in Europe who’d been linked to the 22-year old Croatian playmaker Modric. But with illustrious names including the likes of Read Madrid, Barcelona, Ajax, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle heavily linked to the player few expected he would end up at White Hart Lane. Yet it was Spurs who announced they had captured the much coveted midfielder for a fee ranging from £15.8million to £20million depending on which paper you read.
The Croat burst onto English club’s radars following his nation’s footballing displays in the home and away European Championship qualifying wins over England. He is a two-footed creative attacking midfielder who could fill Spurs troublesome left-midfield slot or play from a more central area. Tottenham have lacked a player who can consistently dominate possession from the middle of the park since the departure of Michael Carrick to Manchester United. As both Jermaine Jenas and Tom Huddlestone have failed to prove their long-term suitability to the role.
Modric also has an excellent goal scoring record for his former club Dinamo Zagreb of 27 goals in 93 League appearances. The 2007 Croatian Player of the Year was also named in the Euro 2008 team of the tournament so has been recognised as one of the best midfielders in Europe. He has now made 29 appearances for his country (4 goals) and captains the side.
So which young star do you think is the better player and the better prospect? Will these talented starlets adapt easily to the Premier League and which club has got the best deal? Let’s hear your views.

Modric is a proven talent and excelled at Euro 2008 whilst Nasri was subbed as a sub in a poor french side. That says it all…Spurs have out done the Gunners yet again!
July 4th, 2008 at 14:38
Outdone us AGAIN? we OUTDO you EVERY year by grabbing more points spending less money and getting champions league football , how have u outdone us HAHAHAHA
July 4th, 2008 at 14:39
Modric is already top class and proven, is Nasri…NO!
July 4th, 2008 at 14:40
Why dont we wait and see!? Has Nasri been confirmed yet?
July 4th, 2008 at 14:40
Steve, is that in the same way as Spurs have been outdoing Arsenal in the league and champs league? The truth is we dont know - modric may not adjust to physical prem league & Nasri may not sign for Arsenal at all at this rate.
July 4th, 2008 at 14:41
As an Arsenal fan, I think Modric is the better player. Whereas I imagine that all Spurs fans will predictably say that Nasri is the better player.
July 4th, 2008 at 14:41
Spurs Mugs think they know it all , every year its the same.
i think they will win the premiership though they will win home and away at arsenal manutd liverpool and chelsea 100%
July 4th, 2008 at 14:42
modric a proven talent how do you work that out?
he plays in the croat league, eddie scored how many goals in that league.
im not saying its much better but i think the level’s a bit higher in the french league.
and how have you done us again?
have you won a league title?
no mate you have been done just like the past 9 years we have been laughing at you.
July 4th, 2008 at 14:45
Nasri just unlucky. France coach idiot.
July 4th, 2008 at 14:49
Steve Jones, shows how much you know about football.
Nasri came on then was subbed 15 minutes later as a tactical measure after Abidal was sent off. You tool.
And Spurs outdo Arsenal in the transfer market????!!!! Oh yeah, you’re so right…Darren Bent was an amazing buy at £16.5m
Face it, Spurs will always live in Arsenal’s shadow. 1 Carling cup and you think you’re big. You are the most deluded fans in the country.
July 4th, 2008 at 14:50
Makes me laugh loads when people go on bout unproven players!
Arguably the best right back and left back in the league last season was Sagna and Clichy. Neither even got called up for the French team and neither were heard of before coming to Arsenal yet who’s better Clichy or the Spurs left back God he is that good i don’t even know his name!
The best buy will be whoever settles in to the Prem best, simple as!
They are both good players but that means jack in the prem, look at Sheva. One of the best strikers around when he was bought and how has he settled in the prem answer is not at all!
July 4th, 2008 at 14:50
If Modric has a good season with us he won’t f8cking stay anyway…Chelsea and the mancs will be sniffing around (tapping) It happens every time time we sign a decent player
Spurs and football are f8cked
July 4th, 2008 at 14:51
The real problem with Modric is that he is a little Pires-like. Long-term he could work out well for Spurs, but it will probably take him a good few months to settle in the Premiership. Unfortunately (unless there are further signings) Spurs will want to use him from the outset as their creative drive in the midfield, as they are a little lacking in this area.
Arsenal (assuming injuries abate this season) should be able to ease Nasri in gradually, and rotate him with the likes of Rosicky, Hleb (if not left), Walcott and Eduardo.
July 4th, 2008 at 14:52
Gentlemen Gentlemen,
I think we need to look at the facts for last year, how much silverware did you win!!!
As for out of the two signing’s we have seen more of Modric than we have Nasri, that doesn’t mean i can call who will be the better player next year. What i can tell you is that Modric was picked in the team of the 2008 Euro’s. Was Nasri!!!!
July 4th, 2008 at 14:53
This was always going to turn into a vote for your own clubs player, irrelevant of who you actually think is better.
Two different players.
Speaking as a Tottenham fan, it’s clear that ARSEanal are infront of us right now and have been for some time.
I have seen Nasri and Modric play about half a dozen times each so far, and for me, there is not a lot to compare.
Modric has far more influence on games, and is at the centre of everything his side does.
Nasri is still young and this question would probably be better off being asked in 12 months time.
As of right now, it’s pretty clear that Modric is the better of the two players, but both have been brought into do different roles.
Modric will be Spurs’ star midfield player, their version of Fabregas if you like.
Nasri will be a bit part player for ARSEanal for the immediate future.
July 4th, 2008 at 14:55
Only seen Modric in the Euros and never seen Nasri so don’t think any Spurs or Ar*e fans could tell who is better.
But Steve Jones, please don’t embarrass other Spurs fans by claiming that we’ve outdone the Ar*e. Would love to do so but look at the facts of recent history. Wait until we finish above them before opening your gob as makes us all look stupid!
July 4th, 2008 at 14:56
God this poll will create a lot of unnecessary arguments… since both players are yet to even step out on the pitch for either club! I’m an Arsenal fan but it doesn’t take a genius to see both players are amazingly talented. Therefore I will not be voting.
July 4th, 2008 at 14:56
Tony its Gareth Bale, you Muppet!
July 4th, 2008 at 14:57
north london giants spurs?
LOL
July 4th, 2008 at 14:58
Really, that wasn’t arrogance i just swore you played him more in midfield than left back, i may be wrong there though!?!
July 4th, 2008 at 15:00
people hu say modric wnt live up 2 the phsicality of the premier league are idots he out muscled so many players in euro n bullied steven gerrard wen they played england, you people obv dnt watch football that much abit lyk arsene wenger wot a stupid thing 2 say.as for who is better i know that modric will trn out to be the signing of the summer any1 hu disagrees just watch next season…. enough said.
July 4th, 2008 at 15:01
GIOVANI DOS SANTOS
July 4th, 2008 at 15:02
Dear Mr Dyslexia
So Arsene Wenger doesn’t watch football that much???
I know Spurs fans are commonly quite a deluded bunch, but….!!!!
July 4th, 2008 at 15:03
sorta like how Spurs out did Arsenal in the league last year to right?
July 4th, 2008 at 15:03
Mate just cos he plays well for his country don’t mean he will cut it in the prem!
Thats a completely different ball game. Can anyone honestly say that Gerrard is as good for England as he is for Liverpool or that Rooney for that matter is even as good?!
Mate you obviously know nothing about football if you can’t see past the fact that so many big players that have been ‘made for the prem’ have failed!
July 4th, 2008 at 15:04
CARLOS VELA
July 4th, 2008 at 15:04
I don’t see any reason for comparison as they are different players and i have been loving watching these two players for quite a while and it is good for the prem to see them here. As i am an arsenal fan i would love to see nasri do well and i think he will. Nasri is a better prospect for the future and could be a big hit and is also more likely to settle as the french ligue is similar to the english yet the croatian league you have more space more similar to the spanish. I can see it taki9ng modric about 6 months to a year to settle and after that i think he’ll be a great success but one player won’t lead spurs to champs league football and to be fair any team under the top 4 is still someway off in quality to touching the top 4 but we’ll wait and see.
July 4th, 2008 at 15:06
arsenal may of won perimerleague titles in past few years …. so wot…. duznt the fact that spurs hav won 3 european trophies count? how many arsenal won? lol! as far as f.a cup n league cup is concerned we have similar records yet bcoz theve been 6 places higher than spurs 4 few seasons there superior? haha yeah ok then. dont see a MAJOR difference if im honest how may trophies ARSEnal win last year??? wanna talk about more recent success n blank out history then there you go!
July 4th, 2008 at 15:07
I can’t take it! I’m spurs thru & thru but can’t stand reading comments from other yids bigging us up against the goons when all we usually do is dissapoint. Please learn to wait until we’ve done something b4 gobbing off to anyone, especially to the goons, as makes us all look like pr*cks!
July 4th, 2008 at 15:07
ton i dont care wot u say ure an idiot i’ll say it again…. we’ll wait and see. i have an opinion n so so you neither r facts yet so put ure dummy bak in ..
July 4th, 2008 at 15:08
well done with that carling cup win, we haven,t won that for years..as a gooner i think modric is the better player but u still wont end up above us
July 4th, 2008 at 15:09
Tottenham needed a creative mid-fielder… they bought Modric… we have the best creative mid-fielder in Europe… nest question?
July 4th, 2008 at 15:09
They are both great players, i personally think Modric will have a better season as he will be now seen as one of Spurs top players whereas Nasri will be one of Arsenals rising stars and they wont rely on him.
July 4th, 2008 at 15:11
Mate did i personally abuse you once? NO!
So why the sudden urge to call me an idito? If neither of us are saying facts just an opinion then i believe that you just also called yourself an opinion as you are comingfrom exactly the same perspective that i am except your opinion is different!
Great way to make yourself look an Ars*
July 4th, 2008 at 15:12
well mayb ,matt spur some fans are different from you, mayb just mayb when gooners mock our league positions etc etc sum of us yidos give sum bak coz we love our team.when we have things like european trophies 2 stik in there face u think we gona sit here n say nothing ? lol nutin rong wivva bit of footie banter mate …
July 4th, 2008 at 15:13
I will start that again as i admit there are a few mistakes in there!
2e-THFC did i personally abuse you once? NO!
So why the sudden urge to call me an idiot? If neither of us are saying facts just an opinion then i believe that you just also called yourself an idiot as you are coming from exactly the same perspective that i am except your opinion is different!
Great way to make yourself look an Ars*
July 4th, 2008 at 15:14
why oh why do you all get dragged into this crap, both are good players, otherwise spurs and arsenal wouldnt have paid the money for them, judge em both at the end of the campain
yes, arsenal have had the better of things of late, but you cant count spurs out, they will be there of there abouts, no denying it.
shouldnt both sets of fans just be looking ahead to what will be a great and very close season between them.
July 4th, 2008 at 15:14
I’m not sure this comparison is appropriate. Modric plays in a weaker league, is two years older and has had more time to prove himself.
Nasri is a different type of player who plays for a (theoretically) stronger team with more competition for places.
July 4th, 2008 at 15:14
arsenal may of won perimerleague titles in past few years …. so wot…. duznt the fact that spurs hav won 3 european trophies count? how many arsenal won? lol! as far as f.a cup n league cup is concerned we have similar records yet bcoz theve been 6 places higher than spurs 4 few seasons there superior? haha yeah ok then. dont see a MAJOR difference if im honest how may trophies ARSEnal win last year??? wanna talk about more recent success n blank out history then there you go!
Bottom Line, Spurs small club , small ambitions (We cant reach top 4 ever…),(Carling Cup)
Arsenal big club, big ambitions (League ,champions league)
Now sod off small club spurs
July 4th, 2008 at 15:15
Can i just ask a spurs fan one question, what is it like to reach the final of the champions league?
Oh wait…..
July 4th, 2008 at 15:15
i’ll say it again … 3rd time lucky…. we have opinions and neither r facts we’ll have to wait until next season to know 4 sure, ive stated my opinion… i think modric will be better. need 3 times to understand something…. great way to make urself look an ars
July 4th, 2008 at 15:15
Sandy, the best creative midfielder in Europe. What about Ribery, Fabregas, Ballack, Sneijder, Deco, Ronaldo, Gerrard and all the other best creative midfielders in europe?
July 4th, 2008 at 15:16
can i just ask a arsenal fan wat its like to win three european trophies oh wait…. have ure runners up medal haha terrrrwat!
July 4th, 2008 at 15:16
love banter & hate goons mate but our last euro cup was 24 yrs ago! look what them b*stards have won since! i’ll give it to them when/if we beat them in the prem, knock em out of a cup or finish above them - until then i’m keeping schtum!
July 4th, 2008 at 15:17
nock em out of a cup we beat em 5-1 at the lane 4 godd sake. need a better reason 4 banter????????? christ
July 4th, 2008 at 15:18
i give up. cya!
July 4th, 2008 at 15:19
this is a no brainer, modric is class and would of been player of tournament had croatia got to the final. Nasri couldnt even get into a old, slow, poor french team and wenger is only signing him cos he’s french and he missed out on modric
July 4th, 2008 at 15:22
gd lad the chief! spot on son ppl that dnt watch modric dnt no how gd he is but as ive sed many times alredi 2day we’ll see next season… mark my words he’ll push 4 team of the year..!
July 4th, 2008 at 15:24
At the moment Modric is by far the better player. He’s more complete and will have a bigger impact than Nasri this season.
However as I’m an Arsenal fan, I’m waiting to see what Nasri can become and hopefully will end up the better signing of the two
July 4th, 2008 at 15:25
That Sammy can awork inna my kebab shop any day.
Gotta be betta than going up the Arse innit?
July 4th, 2008 at 15:26
Lets face it, there are a lot of idiots from both sets of fans who post on here who are so blinkered it’s unreal! All clubs seem to have them and we’re no different. You only have to walk down the street and you see more idiots than you do those with brains!
Anyway the question was a good’un. Think both clubs have bought good players. Modric was a star of Euro2008 and Nasri had a good season in the French league. It remains to be seen who will be the best as the Premier League is very different to any other competition, but I hope we have the better signing in Modric.
The same can’t with said of Gomes though, who looked worse than Robbo when we played PSV at the Lane.
July 4th, 2008 at 15:27
2e-thfc - you finished in the bottom half of the table, 37 points behind us whilst fighting it out with fulham for the honour of being the worst team in london. modric is good but hes no Fabregas
July 4th, 2008 at 15:27
tony
just a thought………..whats it like to loose the cl final then, is it a bit like turning up at the purley gates, then being told, thanks, but no thanks, you belong down there…….and to think, all in front of millions of people too…..shame………still, it was all worth it to watch sol cry again lol
July 4th, 2008 at 15:29
You won’t see it often here, but many Arsenal fans were hoping Modric would sign for us instead. Bit of a shock when he went down the road to the neighbours.
July 4th, 2008 at 15:33
How can Spurs have outdone Arsenal “again” Nazri is not an Arsenal player and may not ever be one.
July 4th, 2008 at 15:33
eric
i think you just hit the nail on the head
July 4th, 2008 at 15:40
mc yid… where did u get to in that champions league? or the one before that? or before that?….. you get my point
July 4th, 2008 at 15:42
ITS DON’T MATTER, THE GUNNERS ARE THE BEST TEAM THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN, WE WILL BE UNBEATEN AGAIN NEXT YEAR AND SHOULD HAVE ONE THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS IF IT WASN’T FOR THOSE DODGY GOALS. MODRIC IS OK BUT NASRI HAS LOADS OF FRENCH CAPS AND HAS PLAYED IN A WORLD CUP FINAL TWICE. I LOVE ARSENAL AND HAVE SUPPORTED THEM FOR 3 YEARS, NOW THATS LOYAL
July 4th, 2008 at 15:46
Shall we just wait until the end of the season to find out.
McYid, spelling not your strong point then?
I’ll leave you to try and work out your errors.
July 4th, 2008 at 15:48
The question should lead to a serious football discussion and not descend into a my team is better than your team argument.
On what we have seen so far and having to believe the sums mentioned I would have to say, even as a life-time Gooner, that Spurs might just have made the better signing(assuming Arsenal do actually get round to signing Nasri).Hope i’m proved wrong!!!
July 4th, 2008 at 15:49
i love it how arsenal fans love the fact they lost in the champions league final, in all honesty u did well to get there but u lost and got nothing from it… how can that make u happy? not one arsenal fan i have spoken to has been honest and admitted they feel sick to the stomach!!!
regarding modric and nasri, iv seen more of modric and iv been impressed whereas i havent seen nasri but knowing wenger he will be class!!!
COYS
July 4th, 2008 at 15:50
No one had heard of Modric until Wenger was interested in him recently (allegedly). Nasri has been a well known player for a good few years now! It’s quite simple people, Nasri is better than Modric! Just like Vela is better than Dos Santos.
July 4th, 2008 at 15:51
Guys guys guys… stop bitching you sound like a load of old women.
Modric is a very good players…. i’m a gooner and i think Modric is a brilliant player… also think Nasri is a brilliant player.
Modric is a slower paced player who likes to pass the ball around like Cesc whereas Nasri is a pacey dribbler who plays as an attacking midfielder or winger. 2 Totally different players but both very good.
As for next season who will produce more i’m not too sure… the Croat league is very slow paced so the pace might prove too much for Modric for the first half of the season whereas the French league is quite quick but not as physical although i have seen Nasri play many times and he’s not afraid to get stuck in.
Both good players but not really comparable
July 4th, 2008 at 15:54
I am a spud, but i think the Gooners play the most attractive football that will suit Nasri right down to the ground x
July 4th, 2008 at 15:57
mike
ya get nothing for second best…….get my point huh
sue,
who cares !!!!!! can you work that one out
July 4th, 2008 at 16:00
That’s a good point Steve… when it comes to analysing who will be better in their 1st season.
Modric has to come into a foreign, more aggressive and faster paced league and take a team by the scruff of the neck and lead their midfield.
Nasri has got to walk into a team that suits his style of play in a league not to disimilar to the one he’s used to while feeding off of players of the likes of Fabregas… not as much pressure or responsability
July 4th, 2008 at 16:01
what a load of pricks you spurs fans are…..
you talk so much crap its hilarious!!
yeah modric is’nt a bad player but he ain’t no bargin at 16 million quid for starters! nasri is only costing us in the region of 12million and at 20 has already played about 160 games for marseille which is a better league than the croatian league.
also do you really beleive if ARSENAL were intrested in him he would of sighned for you planks!
nasri has’nt been seen much by people in england but i know who i would put my mortgage on who will turn out to be the better player ARSENE KNOWS!!
where you going to finish in the league table this year spurs fans…….. !
July 4th, 2008 at 16:01
Jules mate, I hate to mention is by vella scored 3 goals in 30 games last seaon on loan, even darren Bent scored 6. No what I mean mate.
July 4th, 2008 at 16:01
im arsenal, but i have to admit….on paper, modric looks better, i guess thats why we wanted him
July 4th, 2008 at 16:02
ALL SPURS FANS WHO ARE CALLED LIAM ARE WELL GAY
GULLY MAN X
July 4th, 2008 at 16:04
undefeated… he played the entire season on the left wing in a team fighting relegation and was their 1 shining star.
The boys 19, a frequent scorer for the Mexico senior squad and regular 1st team player for them and last season in a game against Real Madrid made Sergio Ramos look a fool.. don’t read too much into those stats dude
July 4th, 2008 at 16:07
It seems strange to me that the majority of posts on here (even Arsenal fans) say they think that Modric is the beter player at the moment. Just makes me wonder what the ones who disagree are really watching while the rest of us are watching football??
July 4th, 2008 at 16:08
but even darren bent scored more
July 4th, 2008 at 16:09
Having Modric at Tottenham is like having a Botticelli in a council flat.
July 4th, 2008 at 16:10
Daz - i before e except after c. Oh and abusing them like they care what a kid that can’t spell says. What a muppet
July 4th, 2008 at 16:10
Obviously I cant even spell my own name - It’s Brendan.
It seems strange to me that the majority of posts on here (even Arsenal fans) say they think that Modric is the beter player at the moment. Just makes me wonder what the ones who disagree are really watching while the rest of us are watching football??
July 4th, 2008 at 16:12
stevie
go back to ya homework you fool,
July 4th, 2008 at 16:14
modric is a proven talent?
Where is that proof?
Yes, Modric played a lot in Euro 2008 and nasri didn’t but if Nasri was Croatian he would have played every game, and is modric was french he would be a sub.
And outdone us?
whats the difference between spurs and a squirrel?
squirrels have more champions league experience.
nasri is younger and will be better.
pint made
July 4th, 2008 at 16:18
undefeated…. Bent was a striker for one of the countries top scoring teams… Vela was a winger for a team that couldn’t buy a goal and the one’s they did get usually came from Vela assists.
The season before Vela was 17 and played a season for Salamanca ON THE WING and scored 8 with something stupid like 36 assists… Salamanca only scored 53 goals that season.
Mark my words within 5 years Vela will be regarded as one of the best players in the world… i have watched plenty of this kid and there is definately something special about him.
How about this for a stat.
Darren bent has 3 England caps with no goals
Carlos Vela has 7 Mexico appearences with 4 goals….. And Vela is only 19
July 4th, 2008 at 16:21
I really don’t know why so many Spurs and Arsenal fans get sucked into these kind of debates that are only designed to generate a mountain of posts.
The better player at the moment is Modric IMO and definitely has more impact on the games he plays than what Nasri does. However it is extremely difficult to question Wengers transfer nous and I am sure that Nasri can grow into a premier league star. I guess tat only time wil tell.
July 4th, 2008 at 16:26
EDUARDO DA SILVA is the better player.
Dudu is said to be one of greatest talents to play for Croatia, and is currently their outright best and most important player. Bilic said so too.
DUDU is king.
watch him upstage Luka on derby day.
and Samir Nasri has always been a high profile player for longer than Modric. no1 talked of Luka til Dudu signed for The Arsenal
July 4th, 2008 at 16:29
There is slight difference in the fact that Bent is trying to get into an England team with a relative array of striking talent compared to Mexico, with the likes of Rooney, Crouch, Owen and Defoe all fighting for a place. Plus Darren Bent’s caps came as a sub didn’t they?
Another factor is the quality of teams that feature in South America Brazil and Argentina aside the competitiveness is as strong as in Europe.
July 4th, 2008 at 16:30

July 4th, 2008 at 16:38
I dont understand how spurs fans feel they can compare with arsenal. 1 thing spurs fans have 2 realise is that being a better team than you comes naturally. NASRI will have quality players all over the pitch and will shine! Modric looks like he might struggle with the physical nature of the leauge and wont be able 2 cut it!
July 4th, 2008 at 16:41
yes at the moment Modric is top player for croatia and Nasri doesnt play. boo hoo. ? you watch them play and you can see why one is the new Cruyff’, and the other ‘the new Zidane’. they are both class. i would say right now Modric is more experienced, captain of club too. but Samir is a frightening talent. higher potential, you can see his class on the ball, an scores belters with either foot.
lets hope Luka Modric supports his mate Eduardo back to fitness since they live next to each other now. well done spurs, and Luka for that. bloody good since the scum fans sang songs about Eduardo when playing chelsea in the cup final. every club has some scum fans anyway.
July 4th, 2008 at 16:45
ah man what a bunch of di*ks, always arguing about who is better, grow up you cu*ts.

Breandan: Don’t want to be pedantic, but since when has Mexico been in South America?????
July 4th, 2008 at 16:57
Check an atlas MJC - sorry but not only are you pedantic but you are also wrong.
July 4th, 2008 at 17:02
Brendan:
Why would I need an atlas - I lived in Guatemala for four years…..
North America (top down)
Canada, USA, Mexico
Cantral America
Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama
SOUTH AMERICA (which starts at the Darian Gap in Southern Panama/Northern Columbia)
Columbia
Ecuador
Brazil
etc
etc
etc….
Hope that’s cleared it up for you!
July 4th, 2008 at 17:03
Obviously that’s supposed to be “Central America”….
July 4th, 2008 at 17:05
And more relevantly (and nearly on subject) Mexico play in the CONCACAF qualifiers and not in the South American federation.
July 4th, 2008 at 17:07
SAYING THAT A PLAYER HAD IT HARD BECAUSE HE HAD COMPETITION FROM OWEN,CROUCH,DEFOE AND ROONEY HARDLY MAKES A CASE FOR HIM AND SUMS UP THIS COUNTRYS BLINKERED ATTITUDE TO FOOTBALLERS.APART FROM THE ROONEY AND OWEN OF A FEW YEARS AGO NOT ONE OF THEM WOULD GET INTO A HALF DECENT INTERNATIONAL TEAM SO WHERE DOES THAT LEAVE BENT.
July 4th, 2008 at 17:16
No mate sorry but In the USA the states of Texas, Tennessee etc are considered Southern, now lets consider that Mexico is South of the aforementioned states, is this not enough to qualify them as south American? Do they not play in the Copa America? A competition designed for teams in South America no? The USA national team do not enter this competition do they?? Rest my case!! Still Pedantic.
July 4th, 2008 at 17:24
Copa America is a competition historically for South American teams.
Mexican, Central American and (more recently USA) teams have been invited to play as guests/wildcards.
I must say that your revisionary geography based on the USA being the centre-of-the-earth is quite eye-opening.
But realistically there are two large land masses (the Americas) - one in the north and one in the south - connected by a thin isthmus. Mexico is on the northern landmass, and therefore in NORTH AMERICA.
Geography lesson over…. (and apologies for boring anybody else!)
July 4th, 2008 at 17:24
Yes McYid you are illiterate - say no more!
July 4th, 2008 at 17:25
And in any case, based on your logic, Israel is in Europe!!!
July 4th, 2008 at 17:32
sue
sorry but have you got anything of any use to say…….didnt think so……..
July 4th, 2008 at 17:42
suprise suprise arsenal sign another french player!!
July 4th, 2008 at 18:00
Israel is in europe.
And Nasri hasnt signed yet.
July 4th, 2008 at 18:30
it has to be moderic AND ARSENAL HASN’T SIGHNED HIM YET OT AVE THEY
July 4th, 2008 at 18:31
idiots, practically all of you. Can’t even answer the question without girlie bickering. first reply was ridiculous outdoing Arsenal again? I’m a Spurs fan and i’ll tell u it aint happened that often in the past 10 yrs, think before you reply. The person who said they can’t even remember who our left back is (in typical narrow minded Arsenal manner) GARETH BALE. not difficult. last I checked a pretty damn good player. The person who mocked the Croatian league, remember where your beloved Eduardo came from, that league has bred many more world class players than anyone would give it credit for.
Fools all of you. Anyway, to answer the question: Modric seems like the more sensible buy. His retention of the ball, and vision reminds me of the likes of Pirlo and Riquelme. In today’s game possession is key, ask Euro winners Spain. In terms of sheer excitement however Nasri could be what Reyes promised to be. He will develop well under Wenger and will settle well. Was very unfortunate in the Euro’s, and in 2 years time should be a regular for Les Bleu’s. Still, it’s best to wait and see who is more valuable.
July 4th, 2008 at 18:50
as an arsenal fan i can and will say that modric is the better player @ the moment but i can bet ya bottom dollar that by the end of the season nasri will be better why? bcos he is at a far more superior team that plays superior football is surounded by superior players and will be tutored by the best manager in the league bar none.
July 4th, 2008 at 18:55
will have and see whos better woolwich pikies read the daily mail and are seasoned nomads.
July 4th, 2008 at 18:58
I’m the most bias Gooner around, but even I have to say, on current form, Modric looks the better buy at the moment…
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves!
The French League (Not close to the Prem. admittedly) is FAAARRR more competitive than the Croatian league… but our Eduardo hardly looked out of his depth with us either, did he?
It’s a pointless question as neither have kicked a ball in England yet… so give it time!
P.S. Steve Jones AKA The Silliest Muggy Yid… EVER!
Spurs out done the gunners, AGAIN! Yep… just like when we took your captain… and he doubled his career trophy haul, in 1 season with us! Wow… I wish we were like Spurs mummy!
July 4th, 2008 at 19:26
i’m an arsenal fan, but modric is a better player at the moment although he is two years older than nasri. this has just turned into a vote for your club’s player rather than the better player.
to say that spurs outdid arsenal in the league last year was hilarious. but truth be told ramos is a manager i have admired for a while and no doubt he will put a side together that will play good football and results will follow.
spurs fans say the same thing every summer; that they will finish ahead of arsenal etc. but this season as much as i hate to admit i think you have a great chance (hope i’m wrong) nad gio dos santos could prove to be the signing of the summer would have taken him over nasri any day of the week
July 4th, 2008 at 19:35
i love reading these things.. .you’re all mugs. There’s no way of telling who the better signing is until they play.
None of you arsenal fans have even seen Nasri play, so how would you know? you bought him on Football manager? hahaha
As for the Spurs boys, im a yid, but lets face it, the only time we’ve outdone arsenal is the 5-1… other than that, we have some catching to do.
No one can deny that spurs have bought cleverly so far this summer… and arsenal will be shrewd also
the one thing i hate is that no one on here sounds like they have a clue about football…. all wafflers and armchair fans, regurgitating what they’ve read on other sites, or seen in computer games!!
July 4th, 2008 at 20:25
If Arsenal wanted Modric, Arsenal would have Modric.
I also think if Chelsea or Real Madrid wanted Modric that badly then they would have out bidded SPurs for him.
Tottenham are not a big club but Modric for them is a big signing so he is a better signing.
Nasri is the better player though but Arsenal is the club most players want to play for so it is easier for us to buy players
July 4th, 2008 at 21:38
arsenal fans seem to think because you have a french coach that they know the best way to play footie i thought france were beaten in euro 2008 didn’t spain do better so does that mean that teams with spainish coaches will do better?ramos will put aside together that will give you fans arun for your money even city will give there rivals a run for there money with hughs in charge i have a feeling its going to be harder for the top four to stay there modric played his part in getting croatia to the euros so he can play any type of footie fast slow ps spurs are a big club always have been i’ve followed them for almost 50 years
July 4th, 2008 at 21:49
rjp
i think you may find that your the club most want to leave
July 4th, 2008 at 21:54
Iam a gooner and I would say spurs have the better deal as Nasir is not signed on yet–the old saying a bird in hand is worth two in the bush.
July 4th, 2008 at 22:01
Both great players but Nasri for me is outstanding. Yes he didnt get as much time at the euros as modric but lets be honest…he plays for france…Modric plays for croatia..and he’s their best player.
Modric tends to fade away in some games and hes lightweight, u can say that of nasri but u dont have to go far (youtube) to see how aggressive the guy can be. As his old mucker said he NEVER loses the ball.
Fan of neither club, but i admire arsenal and their morals as a club. AND LIKE MOST BORED OF SPURS THINKING THEY HAVE ANYTHING OVER ANYONE ESPECIALLY ARSENAL!!
July 4th, 2008 at 22:58
Mark my words Wenger will make him a better player.Modric will be only using spurs as a stepping stone to better things
July 5th, 2008 at 00:42
The funny thing is, Arsenal HAVE been the better team in recent years. Only, they’ve gone from the ‘invincibles’, winning the league etc.. Thierry ‘i snort coke from Arsene’s Gooch’ Henry, and then now what? Nothing, nothing, nothing… See the trend?
And if anyone remembers a few years back, arsenal fans never really had to fight their corner, because they had it all going strong. But now, now is a different story. You came lucky when the ‘lasagne gate’ incident happened, You got chased close for 4th AGAIN the following year, last season we came 11th, you came 3rd… so what? you didn’t win jack. We not only won against you, we PULVERIZED you in the carling cup - don’t any of you say you played your kid line-up, i dont class Gilberto, Adebayor, Gallas even Fabregas (since, for example, Barcalona would never refer to Messi as a kid because he has played at the highest level long enough) et al… we destroyed you 5-1. Not just a 2-1 or an embarrassing 3-1.. a truly humiliating 5-1 walkover.
Next fact, you wanted to sign Modric, you lost out. I believe you were after Bostock too? (Most of you have probably never heard of him, which only strengthens my footballing credentials, so don’t for a second come at me with “Bostock who?” bull). You also wanted Bale, and enquired about Gomez.
All you goon mugs try to kid yourself now that Dos Santos is ‘hyped’… he’s done 100x what Carlos “I’m 14 and go by what the Football Manager game series says” Vela AND i bet 90% or more of you thought he was a class act before he came to us. Can you see the trend? Your manager is class, there’s no denying. However, we too now have someone who can compete with that in Ramos. His CV speaks for itself. Who cares if we spend 16 mill on a sub? Because you cannot, that doesn’t make it wrong. If it does, rant at Chavski instead.
Champions league this, 3rd that, who gives a damn? You are winning nothing, you are progressing nowhere - it’s about time you started calling your own board Jews because its oh so, SO evident that we’re catching you up at a rapid pace - and you lot simply can’t handle that fact.
July 5th, 2008 at 02:20
I like Samir becoze he has a nice body with his shirt off and as for his bottom?
“ITS NOT TRUE, I DID NOT SEE IT!”
Modric has played better, but will be rubbish for Spurs, Arsenal will win FA again and Dean Asthon will be top scorer.
July 5th, 2008 at 06:18
are all you spurs fans suffering from mental illness if modric ws such a great player bla bla bla why was only yours mid table now bottom half club after him and i am sure he would have joined any other real big club or a decent one if he was offered and as for being better between nasri and modric it is nasri but some of you without knowing any thing are saying modric have you ever watched him play in croatian league
July 5th, 2008 at 08:24
yidvicious are you just like this or today you have taken in something wrong in your hole i mean your mouth first of all in recent years arsenal have been better, bunny had your *** won 10 league titles before wenger and
secondly you say we lost on modric you bunny why would we need him we alrady have 10 times better players in that position he joined you as just a stepping stone for his career surely he will be off to some decent club next season and dont you know eto robinho that guy from russia and many other in past called you a tiny notworthy crap club and discarded you and as for arsenal david villa kaka martins babel and others whom you dont deserve to dream of wanted to join arsenal
thirdly you dont care of 3rd place sure as you will never reach there and it is not just about finishing 3rd but cant you recall how we lead almost whole season but due to injuries we just got left out and you jokers cant even break in top half even westham are much better then you who themselves had so many players missing
last why you keep rumbling of that duckling cup which most of teams will opt out if they had chance to finish in top half and what a great job spurs did by beating the reserves throughout i call reserves because everyone knows what is your teams potential by leaving just one player berbatov and arsenal left 7 berbatovs that day
spurs will be always behind us try to catch us you will as close as our backside you know what i mean so keep on smelling.
July 5th, 2008 at 10:07
Jardy; punctuation pls. very hard to read something which has no comma’s or full stops without getting dizzy.
end of the day; arsenal are undoubtedly the more successful of the 2 teams in past few years. however spurs showed (with cup win)last season that they have the potential. modric and nasri are both highly regarded and will be welcome addition the entertainment we call football.
nasri looks to be a replacement for hleb.
modric looks to be a replacement for zokora.
on those grounds, arsenal have swapped a like for like player, resulting in a similar team to last season. spurs wil improve due to modric ability to retain possesion as opposed to zokora being a little loose.
(assuming both players reach their touted potential)
where both teams still have a weakness is the depth of defence. both have 2 decent centrebacks (king/woodgate, toure/gallas) but beyond that it looks a bit iffy for both teams. i would suggest that is the key. if both teams can retain their first choice centrebacks then i believe that arsenal and spurs will both have decent runs and have high chances of top spots - however top 2 look to be chelsea and man.u again.
July 5th, 2008 at 10:14
p.s. anyone who mocks the carling cup is pathetic. thats just pure foolishness. the whole objective of this wonderful game we call football is to win cups/tournaments/leagues.
i am sure that next season both spurs and arsenal (and chelsea dn man u) will be trying to win that cup again. and the fa cup and the league.
one must learn to be humble in defeat.
its like going for a job interview, not getting the job, then telling your mates it was a crap job anyway and you didnt want it. but the fact is you went for the interview.
July 5th, 2008 at 10:18
Jardy, first off - the insult “bunny” is quite simply laughable. What are you trying to make catch? I can picture you now, a wet-look gel wearing wannabe cockney “geezer”. Therefore, lets start with a small pitty towards you.
In answer to your point about Modric… Please, do me and the rest of football a favour and just admit we got a good signing - I’m sure you pretend you know about Nasri and claim he’s a brilliant signing - yet you are so arrogant as to write-off a proven talent such as Modric.
HAHAHAHAHAHA yes, Robinho, Villa, Eto, Kaka all have outright said they want to play for you. Who do you think you are?! Barca? Real? Give me a break - Those players on your teamsheet is a dream in itself, if we’re dreaming then so are you by that line-up.
“You will never reach there”. What a stupid comment, typical of the kind of thing a fan like you would say. What you mean is, you’re wary of our presence and signs of ambition, so you will try to put us down. Much like a school bully would - and they always come out worse in the end.
The “duckling cup” - No, that’s the name given to it by you, because you didn’t win it. Would you call it the same thing if you did? I doubt it too. You dream of having seven Berbatov’s - lets not forget a team of that class, if there ever was one, would be winning the league. Something you haven’t done for a while now.
“Can’t even break the top half” - This is the new one from Goons and Spammers, fairly unimaginative don’t you think? We still got Europe, We Won a domestic cup, and we demolished you - ALL with a new manager and worse injuries than you can claim. Eduardo is one person, come back to me when you are playing two midfielders in your defense. So that comment is all but null and void given our two successive 5th place finishes before that. It’s you who keeps ‘rumbling’ on about that cup by the way, we just support the cause since we won it.
I won’t comment again after this, as you frankly don’t warrant another response. And lastly, as for a small club… our 37,000 fans STILL out-sing your 60,000 - I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like when we get our new stadium and fulfill the 25,000 season ticket waiting list. Another quiet day at the library.
July 5th, 2008 at 10:34
pps.
and finally, regarding the constant excuse of the arsenal fans that they played their reserves that game -
Teams:-
Spurs (4-4-2):- Cerny; Chimbonda, Dawson, King (Capt.), Lee; Lennon (sub Huddlestone, 73), Jenas, Tainio, Malbranque; Berbatov (sub Defoe, 63), Keane (sub Boateng, 63)
Arsenal (4-4-2):- Fabianski; Sagna, Hoyte, Gallas (Capt.), Traore (sub Eduardo, 64); Hleb, Denilson (sub Fabregas, 18), Gilberto, Diaby; Walcott (sub Adebayor, 64), Bendtner
of the spurs team above. only king, lennon, jenas, berbatov malbranque and keane are regular first choice. thats 6 players
sagna, gallas, hleb, fabregas, adebayor and gilberto are regular first choice. thats 6 also.
the rest of arsenals team; walcott, diaby, denilson, traore, hoyte… are the players you keep telling spurs fans are the future spine of your team? future stars? not promising.
July 5th, 2008 at 10:47
MODRIC.<——full stop
July 5th, 2008 at 10:49
yidvicious bunny was laughable really i bet it is was nothing in comparison funnier when you compare spurs with arsenal and by saying bunny i didnt meant to insult anybody you should know if i really meant to insult would i used that word. again modric is good signing really surely you have not seen him taking that horrible penalty in shoot outs and even in the group match it wasnt convincing . he looks good while playing for his national team because he is there main focus in absence of dudu so every player passed to him and it seemed that he is capturing the ball retention but no it is not going to happen that way here ball is going to be scooped from his feet in no time and then through your world class defence who had 38 clean sheets last season what do you mean by a fan like you i just say what is true so what if it is bitter and duckling cup yes we didnt won it so what we didnt wanted it anyway otherwise our first team had played in the semis and PULVERIZED you .you are asking me to admit things but yourself are still not accepting that you are a bottom half team and you making louder noise than us do you sit with decibel reader or what and yes you will not comment again because you have realized arsenal is far better so what to discuss. ha ha ha
July 5th, 2008 at 11:03
started pormisingly there jardy but again you slipped into that dizzy zone…
July 5th, 2008 at 11:04
(promisingly)
July 5th, 2008 at 11:08
sorry but which of your first team wasnt involved in the semis?
lehman. toure. clichy.
ah. i see now. yes, that would have swayed the result.
July 5th, 2008 at 11:14
mr.aa why cant you understand it is not only about physical presence of players on pitch but also mental presence and motivation
July 5th, 2008 at 11:18
i think you hit the nail on the head. perhaps your team lacks that motivation and mental presence to finish a job. hence letting premiership title slip when it was in the bag, losing champs league final, losing carling cup semi…
July 5th, 2008 at 11:20
making fabregas captain would be a step in the right direction, as he does have those attributes…
July 5th, 2008 at 11:20
aa by that i meant spurs were motivated to their max because they wanted their dream cup the carling cup which is like champions league to them on other hand arsenal had there eyes on the real champions league.
July 5th, 2008 at 11:24
eyes only mind. no hands allowed.
i agree with you. spurs were motivated to win the cup, and they won it.
but arsenal were motivated to win premiership, fa cup and champs league and didnt win any?
perhaps your punching above your weight, still hanging onto the viera/henry/pires glory days.
July 5th, 2008 at 11:25
lets face it, you dont see many arsenal fans having ‘my teams the best’ arguments with man u or chelsea…
July 5th, 2008 at 11:29
yeah you are right in past we let those things slip but it was not just our mental or motivation . for ex. lose of 1 player in cl final , in the league we lost imp players like dudu rvp rosicky you will say it is a excuse but imagine yourself honestly had manu won if it had to lose ronaldo rooney or tevez. i thinl cesc has got all attributes but still toure is better option as future captain as he loves the club has the right age, plays in that make or break position in defence
July 5th, 2008 at 11:35
true - but if u put toure captain it surely spells the end for gallas? dont think he would stick around.
i will grant you that you had injuries, but thats part of the parcel. in the same vein paul robinson used to be able to catch a ball and even represented england. unfortunately his twin sister pauline robinson snuck into our goal last season.
had the real paul robinson turned up then we maybe wouldnt have let in so many weak goals…
on a different note, be interesting to see this vela kid; a mate of mine lives in spain and apparently he’s v.good - wonder who will do best out of him and his mexican mate Dos Santos? north london is getting spicy!
July 5th, 2008 at 11:37
relax where you heard that from i accept that manu at present are champ but no way they are anyway different qualitywise , though now it doesnt make any sense to say but still if we had dudu or rvp any 1 of them fit then we would not having this arguement and for chelsea just stop it they will soon diminish as quickly as they rose after sleeping 100 yrs and they really not worth it you know what i mean. even i would regard spurs higher than them.did i really said that
July 5th, 2008 at 11:46
if you have seen barca matches you would know dos santos is like defoe because he takes strike on goal too early instead of a good pass so he is more of a hit and miss player but will be better through experience , vela is more of a rvp from further behind he runs at defense like walcott but diff is vela is more skillfull while walcott is pacy and direct
July 5th, 2008 at 11:54
if robbo could catch, if King, bale, jens and lennon were fit first half of season we wouldnt have had such a bad start… squads are whats important now. arsenal do have a good team but the depth isnt there… for example nasri isnt an addition, he’s most likely hlebs replacement. if you could keep both you would do better when the injuries come.
have never seen either of mexicans play, (dont see much spanish football) looking forward to it.
anyhow gotta run but good to have a bit of banter without resorting to slagging match, cheers
July 5th, 2008 at 14:53
jardy, i would like to point out that it is a FACT reported on sky sports news that only sunderland fans were louder than spurs fans in the league last season, and arse*** sadly came 11th with 60,000 fans. Whilst YidVicious may not have been the one with the decibel reader, someone was.
July 5th, 2008 at 15:22
tottenhamtilidie you are surely loving this number 11th .
July 5th, 2008 at 23:12
lol…carling cup=mickey mouse cup…HAHAHA….hey tottenham when the last time u win the league???…stop being jerk spuds and shut up…always obsesses ‘finishing above arsenal’ why not finishing above other teams such man u or pool…haha pathetic…..
