Humberto Suazo: The Chilean Striking Sensation Chased by Tottenham & Newcastle: Arsenal, Man City, Aston Villa, Blackburn & Sunderland Should Take Note!
Having secured the signing of Harry Kewell, Turkish giants Galatasaray have moved to sign one of the most consistent scorers in world football over the past 5 seasons…the Chilean striker Humberto Suazo. However, reports suggest both Tottenham and Newcastle are targeting the South American star whilst a player of Suazo’s reputation should surely be of interest to a number of English Premier League clubs who are also chasing new strikers.
The 27-year-old currently plies his trade for Mexican side Monterrey but looks set to leave the club this summer. He endured a torrid start to his career with the Mexican outfit due to conflicts both with his team-mates and coaching staff after arriving for $8m from Chilean club Colo-Colo. However, 6 months and just 3 goals later the striker called a press conference where he acknowledged his poor form and attitude as well as his intention to knuckle down at the club. Suazo has since been in blistering form scoring 16 goals in his last 19 appearances. This scoring streak included a hat-trick against UAG and 4 goals against Veracruz in a 7-2 win. That 4-goal haul also equalled the club record held by Milton Carlos.
Humberto Andres Suazo Pontivo was born in San Antonio in 1981 and is often known as ‘Chupete’. He began his career with Universidad Catolica before being loaned out to second division side Nublense where he scored his first professional goal. However, a 7-month spell on the sidelines after fracturing his fibula hampered his fledgling career and meant he missed the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championships.
Suazo began to turn heads two clubs later when in 2003 he scored 40 goals for Chilean third division side San Luis Quillota. He then joined Audax Italiano where he continued his impressive scoring streak despite another major injury. The striker’s next move was to Colo-Colo where he scored an incredible 38 goals in 44 League games and won two Apertura (opening) and 1 Clausura (closing) titles. His performances for the club attracted the attention of a number of clubs including Santos Laguna of Mexico and the Italian side Catania. However, he finally clinched a big money move to Monterrey in 2007.
The striker has won his fair share of individual accolades too including being awarded the World’s Top Scorer of 2006 by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics in Salzburg, Austria. He was also awarded the Silver Football for scoring the 2nd highest amount of top division goals in world football. He came 2nd to Klaas Jan Huntelaar (35 goals) after scoring 34 League goals for Colo-Colo.
Chupete is a permanent fixture in the Chilean national side and has scored 10 goals in 26 internationals. This includes two goals in the recent 3-2 World Cup qualifying group win in Venezuela. Despite his relatively small stature (5 ft 7), Suazo is in the Wayne Rooney mould when it comes to physique as defenders seem to bounce off him whilst his sharp acceleration and shooting ability are his main strengths.
Galatasaray may be leading the chase for the exciting striker but don’t be surprised if he’s strongly linked to the Premier League with sides such as Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle, Man City and Everton all after new forwards. After all, Humberto Suazo is one of the best strikers playing outside of Europe right now. Take note Premier League clubs, this man from Chile is hot stuff!
Check out the vids of the player in action and let us know what you think about the highly-rated South American. Do you think he’d be worth a gamble or would you be wary of signing this Chilean star? Let’s hear your views.

I´ve seen his goals since he played in Colo-Colo, you should look at them because they also show his improvement over the years. It´s a waste to see him at the mexican league, Suazo was and is ready for a higher level of challenge, we could really watch him explode in europe. He must be sign by a good team, and then prepare to be amazed. The only question is which team will be intelligent enough to get him now?

Chupete suazo He is an innate scorer, of race, is unamenable, is the man come from the planet goal.
It is a predator of the area.
September 16th, 2008 at 18:22
suazo, is one of the most powerful top scorers in the world.. id like to see him play for arsenal or newcastle united.. its time for a club to start looking at talent and not at the players passport ex: (brazil, or argentina) there is so many players from these two countries that play in the top leagues just because of where they come from and are also overpriced.
September 16th, 2008 at 19:39
wanna see you with my 14th!! shirt
don’t wanna walcok with it, i want you to play for the gunners!!
gguunneerrss gguunneerrss

September 16th, 2008 at 19:45
Chupete eats a lot of marraqueta’s that’s why he doesn’t play in england.
Amazing scorer but a little fat.
Come to Newcastle mate!
We will fit you in a good physical condition!
Rooney vs Suazo??

this guy is the real deal!, he’s an amazing scorer , he can score from anywhere on the pitch, i’ve have the honor to watch him play every weekend here in Mexico, he really deserves this chance to play in Europe, he can easily play in Real Madrid, or Man U. or any big team in europe, i know that he’s interested specially in the spanish league! cus he says that he could be comfortable there!, cheers to all of you!
