Stephane Sessegnon: Everton Launch £14M Bid for PSG’s Dazzling African Winger
Everton have launched a £14m bid for one of the stars of the 2008/09 French Lique one season despite the player recently signing a new contract extension with his club until 2013. That player is PSG midfielder Stephane Sessegnon who had previously expressed an interest to leave the club with Chelsea reportedly tracking the player but David Moyes is aiming to sign the dazzling winger after missing out on a number of transfer targets.
The Benin-born player began his career in his homeland with Requins de l’Atlantique before moving to Lique 2 side Creteil in 2004. In two seasons the young midfielder scored 10 goals in 68 league appearances before a transfer to Le Mans. Despite stepping up a division, Sessegnon impressive displays for his club brought Premier League attention from the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle. After 61 league appearances for the club over two seasons, the 25-year-old moved to PSG.
In his first season with PSG, the powerful right-sided midfielder has scored 5 goals in 34 league appearances (all starts) as the club finished 6th in the division, 16 points behind champions Bordeaux. The performance of the club from the French capital is even more impressive when you consider in the two seasons before Sessegnon’s arrival the club had finished 15th and 16th respectively. He started PSG’s opening league match of 2009/10, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw at Montpellier.

In 2007/08 PSG finished just 3 points and two places above relegation. However, last season PSG performed well in the league, reached the League cup semi-final and reached the quarter-finals of the Uefa Cup.
Such has been his impact for PSG that Sessegnon has been likened to former club great Jay-Jay Okocha. Despite only arriving last summer the player has expressed an interest in playing in England. He told skysports.com, “I am always linked with Premier League clubs but I don’t know anything, what I know is that I am at PSG.
“I would love to play in the Premier League one day but I have unfinished business in France at the moment.”
However, he also revealed to orangesport, “It is always nice to know that a great club like Chelsea are interested in me.”
“It is some sort of reward for all the hard work I have put in.
“You must never close the door, although that doesn’t necessarily mean I am leaving.”
Sessegnon’s ability to play on both flanks, his pace, strength and dribbling skills make him an extremely viable Everton target as David Moyes looks to increase his attacking options.
Do you like the look of the player? Is he the type of player your club needs? Let’s hear your views.
