Tony Cascarino: Rafa Should Turn to Benayoun & Why Torres Needs a Strike Partner at Liverpool

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Ok, Liverpool were poor at White Hart Lane at the weekend but people seem to forget they are still a very good side and will undoubtedly be there or thereabouts with Chelsea and Manchester United at the end of the season. Much has been made of the Tottenham defeat and Xabi Alonso’s departure but there are other areas of the team that look like they need addressing if Liverpool are going to compete once again for the title.

Tony Cascarino: Alonso Can be Replaced, Johnson Expensive & Liverpool Can’t Rely on Torres

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

If Liverpool do lose Xabi Alonso this summer then of course it will be a big blow but nowhere near as big as if the player to depart was Steven Gerrard or Javier Mascherano. If Rafa Benitez had to choose between losing any of those three midfielders, Alonso would be the one and I have to doubt they could find someone to replace the Spaniard especially if they can get £25-£30m which is a lot of money for the player.

Cascarino had this to say, “I’m also not convinced about his (Torres) partnership with Robbie Keane. The lad is struggling at the moment. In fact, he looks a little bit lost and unsure of where he’s supposed to playing in this Liverpool side.”

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Both nations kicked off their Euro 2008 Group D games with wins and look odds on to reach the knock-out stages. However, it was Spain who looked the most impressive in their 4-goal demolition of Russia with Valencia star and top target of much of the Premier League David Villa scoring a hat-trick. This was the first treble by a player in the Euro’s for 8 years since Patrick Kluivert achieved the feat.
