The first leg of the World Cup play-off match between the Republic of Ireland and France takes place this weekend in what should be a nail-biting clash. France may be packed full of top stars but they won’t relish playing against this Irish side in Dublin.

Aston Villa made two late swoops for central defenders with James Collins and Richard Dunne arriving at the club. Dunne is a very good signing, in fact, I don’t see a massive difference between him and Man City’s new recruit Joleon Lescott. Martin O’Neill has got a bargain on his hands in comparison to the ridiculous amount Man City paid for Lescott. However, I’m not so sure about O’Neill’s other new recruit James Collins.

Manchester City centre-half Richard Dunne is reportedly set to leave Eastlands after turning down a new long term contract with the club. The Citizens Captain recently won the club’s Player of the Year award for an astonishing 4th season running and would be sorely missed. There are a number of Premier League clubs interested in the consistent defender with Tottenham, Villa, West Ham and Newcastle leading the chase.
