According to reports in the French press, Manchester United have opened negotiations with Toulouse for their star midfielder Moussa Sissoko. With Owen Hargreaves injury problems continuing and a lack of strength in the centre of midfield, Sir Alex Ferguson has made the 20-year-old Frenchman his top transfer target.

Any chance of the club resurrecting the deal in January may rest on the interest of a certain Jose Mourinho who has had the player heavily scouted this season. If Inter do make their move it would Harry Redknapp’s chances of signing the Frenchman but would open up the possibility of Sulley Muntari moving to White Hart Lane. Either would add strength to a somewhat frail looking Tottenham midfield in recent weeks.

Bolton’s £10m record summer signing Johan Elmander has been unfortunate to have picked up a hamstring injury in his 2nd appearance for the club. However, early signs are that Gary Megson may have spent wisely after the Swede opened his account on the opening day of the season against Stoke. Since he succumbed to injury the Trotters have failed to win a game so his comeback can’t come too soon.

Swedish Striker Johan Elmander may have been played out of position by his country at Euro 2008 but he is still being targeted by both Bolton and Fulham this summer. The 27-year-old failed to break the long-term international partnership of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrik Larsson and was reduced to a role on the wing. However, despite his bit-part performances at Euro 2008 he is expected to make a big money move this summer with the Reebok Stadium his likely destination.
