TOTTENHAM v READING - SPURS UP FOR THE CUP AT WHITE HOT LANE?

More goals for Berbatov? The year doesn’t end in one but Spurs FA Cup glory dreams will be rekindled with the visit of the Royals this weekend. Just 8 days before this match, these 2 sides played out a 10-goal thriller at the Lane and you can expect more goals in this one. Both these sides cannot stop conceding goals and in Tottenham’s case scoring them as well.

Spurs are the joint top scorers in the Premier League and should score more against an expected weakened Reading side. Steve Coppell has not shown much interest in cup competitions since his team reached the promised land of the Premier League and often puts out a reserve side for these games. If he does just that against a team of Tottenham’s attacking quality then the 6 goals they conceded last time may well be repeated.

Both sides started the year off with defeat but Spurs return to the comfort of the Lane for this one where they have scored 19 goals in their last 5 home games. It is well documented that Reading have not won an away League match this season but they have enjoyed one away win this season, in the cup, though a trip to Swansea is not as ominous as a trip to White Hart Lane at the moment. Especially as they have never won at White Hart Lane in 6 previous attempts.

With Tottenham scoring freely at home it is hard not to back them to knock the Royals out of a cup competition they don’t claim to be interested in. So back Berbatov and co to bang in more home goals as the former cup greats take their first steps on the road to Wembley. We will have to find out if Dimi’s knees go all trembly when and if Chas and Dave get a chance to release another footballing musical classic nearer to May.
