Liverpool v Newcastle: Keegan Made to Wait as Defeat at Anfield Makes Winless Run Eight?

King Kev Ponders Where the Points are Coming FromKevin Keegan’s Newcastle side are desperate for a win as they slowly get sucked into the relegation scrap at the foot of the Premier League, however a trip to Anfield is not one to relish for the disillusioned Toon Army.

Liverpool may have struggled generally in 2008 but their recent form and the Magpies record from visits to the Red side of Merseyside will leave King Kev fearing the worst.

No Luck for the Magpies at Anfield

Newcastle have not won at Anfield since Special K’s first reign, back in April 1994, a total of 14 years ago. Since that win Liverpool have won 11 of the encounters there and drawn 2. The Reds have scored a total of 33 goals and conceded just 13 in this period. In fact, Newcastle’s poor run at Anfield stretches back 58 years. In this time they have won twice, lost 28 times and drawn 6 of the 36 encounters. Expect that miserable run to continue Kevin!

Another North-East Nightmare on Merseyside

Liverpool’s victory over Inter Milan has sparked a bit of form for Rafa’s Reds as they’ve followed up Champions League success with successive League wins over Boro, Bolton and West Ham. So it’s not a good time for King Kev’s beleaguered troops to visit Anfield. Liverpool remain unbeaten at home in 2008 having won 4 and drawn 2 of their 6 League games. They will be aiming for the complete North-East clean sweep after beating both Sunderland and Middlesbrough in recent matches at Anfield. They’re certainly finding goals easy to come by at home as 17 goals in those last 6 games would suggest. As long as Fernando Torres isn’t rested due to the Champions League commitments next week it wouldn’t be too surprising if the special Spaniard bagged his 3 hat-trick in 4 games!

King Kev’s Return Turns Sour

The Toon are on a 3-match losing run and haven’t won a League match since mid-December. Only the rock bottom Rams can match Newcastle’s winless 2008. Since Keegan was appointed the Magpies have played 7 games in all competitions, lost 5 and drawn 2. They’ve scored just 3 goals (all in individual games) and conceded a total of 17 goals. So back Liverpool for your chance to win the £12,500 Jackpot on Premier 10 this week as they look to pile more pressure on the Geordie messiah as his black and white disciples begin to fear the worst.
