Premier 10 Minute by Minute Review - March 8th & 9th
This was a great weekend for the neutrals but one to forget for Premier 10 players as there were shocks galore particularly in the FA Cup 6th round games. There was a £12,500 jackpot up for grabs but unsurprisingly no-one got all ten games correct as the big guns crashed out of the cup and the Premier League strugglers picked up rare points. However, every cloud has a silver lining as next week’s Premier 10 rollover now stands at a whopping £15,500 so get predicting for your chance to win big cash!

The chances of a jackpot win on Premier 10 was ended by Saturday evening as the shocks came thick and fast in both the Premier League and the FA Cup. It started at Ewood Park where Roy Hodgson’s return to the Rovers ended in a surprising draw which only 10% of you predicted. An overwhelming 86% expected Blackburn to beat Fulham who possess a pathetic away record. Unfortunately for them Jimmy Bullard’s equaliser a minute from time ruined your prediction.
Another of the struggling Premier League sides gained important points this weekend in the shape of Reading. Premier 10 players were undecided on this one as the 3 permutations for this game were all predicted relatively evenly. However, it was the 28% of you backed the Royals to take all the points who would have been pleased with Shane Long’s and Dave Kitson’s second half goals.
There was no surprise at Anfield as Liverpool racked up yet another win and Kevin Keegan’s miserable return to St James’ continued. King Kev has now gone 8 games in all competitions without a win and his team have dropped behind both Wigan and Reading in the table. Only 3% of you fancied a shock Toon win on Merseyside with 89% of you backing Fernando Torres and co which was proven correct.
The major shocks of the day came in the FA Cup as both United and Chelsea crashed out of the cup in sensational style. These two games ended any chance of a Premier 10 jackpot winner as a mere 2% of you backed a Portsmouth away win and the same percentage backed a Barnsley home win. Kayode Odejayi’s first goal for the Tykes since September sealed a shock win at Oakwell. In the past the Blues just didn’t lose these type of games and Grant is surely now under serious pressure.
Pompey’s win at Old Trafford came as a result of numerous missed United chances and the outcome could had been so different had the home side been awarded a penalty for a dubious challenge from Sylvain Distin on Cristiano Ronaldo. However, luck was not on Fergie’s side as his team gave away a 78th minute penalty duly dispatched by the Ghanaian Sulley Al Muntari.
The one Championship match on the Premier 10 fixture list saw Saints earn a 2-2 draw at Blackpool. Southampton are a good option for draws at the moment as Nigel Pearson awaits his first win since taking charge of the club. The away side had taken the lead but were 2-1 down by the 55th minute to the delight of the majority 46% of you. However, veteran Stern John equalised 8 minutes later which pleased the 31% who wisely backed a draw.
The Sunday games saw Arsenal struggle to hit the heights of the San Siro with a scrappy draw at Wigan. A whopping 91% could not see further than an away win after Wenger’s young guns shone in the win over Milan in midweek. Instead Bruce’s battlers fully deserved a point despite a couple of scares courtesy of Emanuel Adebayor. At least 7% predicted a draw which takes the high flying Gunners back down to earth with a muddy bump.
Spurs ran riot at White Hart Lane against the hapless Hammers who’ve now lost 4-0 in 3 successive League matches. The Carling Cup winners were comfortable after just 11 minutes as Dimitar Berbatov put them 2-0 up through two headed goals. Luis Boa Morte made it even easier for the home side after his umpteenth foul of the match led to his sending-off just before half-time. You know it’s not your day when Gilberto and Darren Bent score against you. The Brazilian had the worst debut in history in midweek and Bent has not even looked like playing let alone scoring recently, but the 70% who backed Spurs won’t give a damn.
The Toffees ended Sunderland’s 4-match home winning run with a controversial Andrew Johnson winner which came off his arm in the 55th minute. This will not bother the 68% of you backed an Everton away win. Surprisingly only 9% went for a home win despite the Black Cats recent run. David Moyes men are becoming a great selection for Premier 10 players week after week.
The sharp shooting Baggies finally ended League One Bristol Rovers cup run in sensational style. They scored 5 goals to live up to their reputation as the most prolific side in England. The Pirates were backed by 14% of you as they had already beaten both Fulham and Southampton in previous rounds. However, an Ishmael Miller hat-trick as well as goals from James Morrison and Kevin Phillips booked them a trip to Wembley as 62% of you expected.
So there were no Premier 10 jackpot winners this week but surely after a weekend with more twists than a Stephen King book, your chances of a win will be greater next week. Start predicting now as the rollover brings the jackpot total to an estimated £15,500. Good luck next week!
