Premier 10 Minute by Minute Review: March 29 & 30

Birmingham pulled off a superb home win over Man City as 42% of you predicted thanks to their loan Argentinian signing Mauro Zarate’s two goals and a controversial Gary McSheffrey penalty. Despite having a Franck Queudrue sent-off the Blues wrapped up the win and moved 4 points clear of the relegation zone.
Bolton suffered the heart-break of losing to a injury time own goal despite being 2-0 ahead and the Gunners down to 10 men following Abou Diaby’s first half sending off. The 84% of you who backed an away win wouldn’t have felt much sympathy for the Trotters but spare a thought for the 12% who back a draw and were seconds away from an unlikely prediction.
The bottom two clashed at Pride Park and as per usual neither side could pull off a much needed win. The result led to the relegation of the rock bottom Rams after just 32 League matches this season. Premier 10 players were split as to the outcome of this match. However 37% correctly predicted a draw in this match as Fulham’s 19-month winless away run continues which should mean they join Derby next season in the Championship.
Manchester United picked up their customary win over Aston Villa in sensational style. The Red Devils maintained their gap at the top of the Premier League thanks to their 4-0 win. The overwhelming majority 91% of you backed the home side who made short work of Villans side who’ve drawn at Anfield, the Emirates and Stamford Bridge this season. United’s holy trinity did the business again as Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez all got on the scoresheet.
Jermain Defoe returned for Portsmouth and kept up his incredible scoring record since signing in January. The hitman has now scored 8 goals in 7 games for Pompey and 84% of you who backed the home win will have been delighted he has. Wigan were missing a number of key players for this one so it’s hardly surprising Portsmouth were backed so strongly. However, it still took a David James penalty save to make the result safe.
Premier 10 players were evenly split by the Reading v Blackburn game as the Royals recent revival was halted by a goal-less draw this weekend. The home side had the best of the chances despite having a man sent-off but a draw left 34% of you more than happy.
The Black Cats pulled off yet another last minute home win thanks to Andy Reid’s strike. The majority of you (42%) backed a home win though Sunderland had to come from a goal behind to pick up the points. An unlucky 34% of you will have been desperately unhappy that the rotund Irishman volleyed home such a late winner.
Chelsea didn’t shock anyone with their home victory over Boro this weekend yet the 91% of you backed a home win would have had your hearts in your mouths on a number of occasions. Middlesbrough had numerous chances to score and they hit the Blues woodwork on a number of occasions including an unfortunate Afonso Alves effort. However, it was Chelsea who picked up another important 3 points and they remain in contention for the title as a result.
The shock result came at White Hart Lane where Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle side thrashed Tottenham 4-1. A mere 7% of you backed an away for the Toon but a strange Spurs formation and a much improved away performance led to four goals for the Magpies. The match had guaranteed goals but few would have expected such an excellent display from Newcastle and such a disjointed Tottenham showing.
Liverpool bounced back from their defeat at Old Trafford to put on a superb display against their local neighbours Everton in the 207th Merseyside derby. Only 7% of you backed the Blues to win at Anfield and after Fernando Torres 7th minute goal the game was as good as over as the Reds dominated proceedings. The score line could have easily been higher but 65% of you who backed a home win would not have minded that at all.
Despite the Toon’s shock away win there were still a number of Premier 10 players who successfully predicted all 10 correct results this weekend. So if you want to win big money like those lucky people then start predicting for next weekend’s matches now on Premier 10!
