Kris Boyd: Rangers Prolific Striker Linked to Hull & Cardiff: But Surely Sunderland, West Brom, Stoke, Bolton, Blackburn & Fulham Should All be Interested!

Kris Boyd: Rangers Goal Hero Set to Move South?Rangers striker Kris Boyd may well be surplus to requirements at Ibrox this summer after Walter Smith brought in 3 new strikers to the club in the shape of Kenny Miller, Andrius Velicka and Kyle Lafferty. Despite a prolific record for last season’s Uefa Cup finalists the Scottish hitman has struggled to cement his place in the first team and could now be set to move on. There shouldn’t be a shortage of potential suitors for the Scottish star as his scoring record at every level is superb.

In recent weeks both Hull and Cardiff have been strongly linked to the powerful 6ft 1 target-man though his club and international scoring record should make him a good acquisition for a number of Premier League clubs. Boyd has reached double figures in League goals for both his clubs Kilmarnock and Rangers for the past 6 seasons. This statistic is even more impressive when you consider the Irvine born striker is only 24-years-old.

Another Goal, Another Boyd Celebration!Boyd scored 25 goals last season for Rangers in all competitions in just 41 appearances. However, the Scot only started 24 of those matches which illustrates just how prolific he is. His overall record in 2 and a half seasons at Ibrox is 70 goals in 76 starts (104 appearances).

Despite this tally he’s not a definite first team starter and the increased competition for places at Ibrox could well see him leave. The 24-year-old’s SPL record in the past 5 seasons alone is quite superb. After all, he’s scored 98 League goals for Kilmarnock and Rangers combined in the last 163 appearances (135 starts).

Premier 10It’s not just at club level that the Scottish international star has been banging them in. He boasts a record of 1 goal in every 2 games for Scotland (7 goals in 14 caps) which is testament to his goal poaching ability once again. Of those 14 international appearances, Boyd has started just 7 games and in those games alone scored 6 goals. This includes 2 goals on his debut against Bulgaria in May 2006. Rangers reportedly rejected a £2.5m bid for the player from Cardiff this month but they are sure to receive a few more bids in the upcoming weeks as there are a number of clubs in need of a proven striker. However, after scoring twice in each of Rangers trophy wins last season (Scottish Cup & League Cup) it’s difficult to see why they’d let him go.

So would you like your club to show an interest in the prolific Rangers hitman whose 115 career SPL goals are only bettered by one player in history? Would Rangers fans consider selling the forward considering his fantastic record for the club? Let’s hear your views.

  1. Gers Says:

Don’t let Boyd go he is still the most deadly striker at the club. To be fair he would never want to leave to join any of the small English clubs mentioned. We are 100 times bigger than all of them. Stay Kris!

  2. Ibrox Ian Says:

If Crouch is £10m then Boyd is worth more in my eyes, £2.5m bid from Cardiff is an absolute joke in my eyes!

  3. MackamBHOY Says:

Ibrox ian are you mad, peter crouch is twice the player boyd is. As for gers, i wouldn’t want him at Sunderland, don’t think he could cut the mustard in the ‘big’ league

  4. SuperMaths Says:

I can’t believe just because he’s done well at Rangers that all these people think he’d do well in England - especially the Premiership.

First and foremost, the Premiership is of an astonomically higher standard than the Scottish Premier.

Majority of the Scottish Premier teams would be average Championship teams.

That, and that alone is the reason that Boyd scores a shed load North of the Border.

If any premiership striker could play against Championship defenders week in week out they’d score a hatfull as well.

There is no evidence that Boyd would do as well in the Premiership as he would up North.

He should stay there and keep up the illusion that he’s a quality striker and not risk being shown up for the average forward he is!

  5. Gaff1690 Says:

Machambhoy..The big league???Who’s going to win it this season mmm Man U or Chelsea, maybe Arsenal for 3rd eh.
2 teams out of 10 can win it up here and 3 teams out of 20 down there, you do the maths..ooops sorry your a bhoy…Anyway Boyd would have a great record down south if he gets the perfect supply..we should keep him

  6. CJ Says:

Yes he might of scored 20 odd goals in that micky mouse league but he wouldnt be able to do it in the league with 20 good teams. Rangers and Celtic would finish about 8-10th in the premier league so dont make out your 100 times bigger. Theres 20+ points difference between 2nd adn 3rd in your league.

  7. MackamBHOY Says:

Gaff1690, so because the ratio for teams to win the league in scotland is better than to win it in england makes it a better league? Celtic the best team in scotland last season would stuggle in the EPL

  8. Gaff1690 Says:

20 good teams in the premiership…don’t make me laugh.
4 maybe 5 tops, the rest are mediocre . Rangers and Celtic are 10 times the size of anything down south bar Man Utd so live in your wee bubble down there cos one day it will burst and the gravy train will come to a halt and the foreign players will go elsewhere and all you will have left is English boys.Croatia know how good they are eh..

  9. MackemCol Says:

Think about it Kenny Miller could not cut the mustard in the premier and what do Rangers do SIGN HIM!! then they let Boyd go. Why would any premier club come in for him buying a striker who did nothing in the premier and selling a one to fund this would not give any prospective purchaser alot of confidence.

  10. Gaff1690 Says:

    Macham
My point is that the premiership has obscene amounts of money which attract the best foreign players. That is why it is in the top 3 leagues worldwide.Take away that money and the top foreigners then your left with a rather poor league.
We have zero money up here yet Celtic won the league and Rangers reached a European final.Everton,Bolton,Spurs all tried and failed but we got there.Does that mean we’re better than those 3 clubs .

  11. MackamBHOY Says:

Remind me again gaff1690 when the last time Scotland qualified for a major championship? Greatest result in scotlands history = England 2 Croatia 3.

  12. Gaff1690 Says:

The Kenny Miller signing has been treated with disgust up here by Rangers fans.. we don’t want him cos he’s rotten..Kris Boyd is the best finisher i’ve seen Maurice Johnston or Kenny Dalglish…honestly.

  13. Ibrox Ian Says:

Boyd is a hell of alot better than any forward you lot have…Kenwyne Jones lol, big expensive donkey, Chopra…don;t make me laugh…you lot don’t know your level!

  14. MackemCol Says:

    Ibrox Ian,

Stokes =enough said he banged goals in for fun in the scottish prem yet put him in the english prem and he looks shocking…its a fact my friend ……not having a dig you just cannnot compare there is nothing to compare. Jones would bang 30-40 goals up there….fact Chopra would have a field day…fact Stokes 13 goals in 13 starts in scotland enough said.

  15. Ibrox Ian Says:

it;s not a FACT is it…you paid tons for a pair of strikers that are distinctly average and have never really had proven track records.

If you don’t rate what Boyd has done at club level then how about 7 goals in 6 starts at international for what you call a poor Scotland side….he is better than your pair…FACT!

  16. A class apart Says:

Yes Rangers are bigger than most of the clubs he`s linked to but only in the crowds they attract. And they only get big crowds because theres basically only one other team of note to watch.
The point however is that the scottish prem is like our championship at very best. This lad wants to test himself at a higher level, let him as well because playing against better teams each week will help his form for the national team.
Also he would like to play in a team that is more adventurous and free flowing. I was rooting for Rangers in the final but couldn`t believe how negative, defensive and basically boring they are. Zenith ran rings you and 5-0 would not have flattered them.
Replacing him with Miller is a joke. You couldn`t beat a poor celtic side to the tiltle this year, so next season god help you.

  17. Mackemsrule Says:

Funny how there are only 2 Rangers supporters sticking up for his talent…doesn’t sound popular does he?? lol

  18. MackamBHOY Says:

ibrox ian, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahaha boyd better than jones,

  19. MackemCol Says:

Ibrox Ian you failed to mention Stokes on your reply did that not happen did he not bang goals in for fun in the scottish prem and down here he looks like a average championship player. Boyd will not play in the premiership he will go to a championship club as that is his level. I am sure he will do well. As for comparing Jones and Boyd hahaha there is no comparison mate Jones is a young keen hungry striker who in time will be a fantastic player. Boyd is a striker who has reached his peek the only way is down thats why YOUR CLUB want to sell him…for gods sake wake up…

  20. Mackemsrule Says:

I thought Rangers were a BIG club, where are there fans??? 2 of them commenting, i think we all know Sunderland are a bigger club in every way!

  21. Ibrox Ian Says:

Stokes had less than a season up here, scored a few goals and you mugs paid over the odds for a player who was distinctly average but had a hot scoring streak. The difference is Boyd has done it consistently = read the article - his ratio speaks for itself!

  22. MackemCol Says:

Ibrox Ian you are funny. You have no comeback mate any half decent striker could have a scoring streak in Scotland. Stokes and Kenny Miller have both got great scoring records in the scottish prem now were is Miller gone back to? where he belongs the scots prem where I am sure he will score plenty of goals as Boyd has. Put Boyd in the prem which wont happen by the way and you will see he will be back in scotland by the next season. . .

  23. Ibrox Ian Says:

Kenny Miller had a great scoring rate up here did he???

He never scored more than 11 League goals in a season here actually and that was with Hibs in 1999/00…FACT!

Whereas he scored 19 goals 2 times for WOlves…yes English football is so good!

He scored 4 goals in 30 League games for Derby last season and scored 4 goals in 31 League games in his last full season with Celtic…i rest my case!

  24. Ibrox Ian Says:

Where’s your comeback? Cat got your tongue? Realise how ignorant you are about Scottish football?

  25. MackemCol Says:

Explains everthing that is good about Scottish football then. YOU HAVE SIGNED HIM FACT!!!!! hahahaha

Yet his record is so bad as you have pointed out but he has played for Scotland 37 TIMES FACT!!!!! hahahaha

Explains everything that does. Well done.

  26. MackemCol Says:

Where’s your comeback? Cat got your tongue? Realise how ignorant you are about English football?

  27. Ibrox Ian Says:

Miller still has scored 11 goals in 39 internationals….if England are so good how about Heskey 5 goals in 45…well done.

Or do you prefer the best striker your club had for years …kevin phillips 8 caps….er, no, zilch, zero goals!

  28. Ibrox Ian Says:

    touche!

  29. Ibrox Ian Says:

Whereas Boyd has scored 7 goals in 14 games for Scotland who are sooooooo much weaker than England which surely in your eyes makes him even better! I win again methinks

  30. Teddy Bear Says:

Rangers have been involved in 4 major European finals, how many Sunderland?

Took over 200,000 fans to Manchester. Sunderland are small fry compared to the Rangers.

  31. Ibrox Ian Says:

Well said Teddy, post this on article on a Rangers forum and let’s see who is the bigger club!

  32. MackemCol Says:

hahahaha Look I am sick of this anyway we know the English Premier is far superior to the scottish that IS a fact there is no argument back with that I am afraid so get over it. We are arguing about a player YOUR club is selling FACT!! enough said really …a player who will end up with a championship club FACT!!! I think I win again me thinks….;-)

  33. Ibrox Ian Says:

He is not necessarily going my deluded friend. Who have you lot signed this summer? anyone? shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  34. MackemCol Says:

I know you took 100,000 fans to Manchester I had the pleasure of having a few beers with a load of them in the airport before I flew out to cyprus and got on very well with them and all strange eh….computers make you row but face to face I had a great laugh with aload of Rangers fans who were in good spirits dispite their defeat.

  35. MackemCol Says:

We have 50 Million to spend mate just watch this space we will sign players of that there is not doubt…

  36. Ibrox Ian Says:

On who? Not heard you linked with much?

  37. MackemCol Says:

some wierd ones for me to be honest. Andy Johnson we have offered 10 Million for him this morning (according to reports) Darren Bent that long haired Hunt from Reading ;-) and that Rangers defender we are meant to be interested in aswell Carrea something like that……Damian Duff whom i dont want well past his best and reports here reckon we are favorite to sign McGeady not sure about him either to be honest 10 Million seems alot for him….but to be honest dont know alot about the kid.

  38. Melanie King Says:

We have been the top scorers in English football for two years and have just forked out 6 million to secure Moore and Bednar and we have re-signed Phillips. Our priorities must be in other positions now. Surely Albion should not be looking at Boyd. Surely you should get a brain before posting.

  39. MackemCol Says:

Has Phillips resigned did not know he had. Good news that for you guys good to see you back in the prem…even though I dont like that Mr Mowbray all that much but he has come up with the goods ;-)

  40. papaguy51 Says:

Who’s arguing about what league is better? We all know the Prem is far better than the SPL. It’s your deluded fans that think Sunderland are bigger than Rangers.

For that, I can only assume you lot are taking the mick! You will never ever be as big as Rangers, only in your wildest dreams. Must hurt to see us in the Champions League or latter stages of the UEFA every year while you stare down the barrel at yet another relegation.

  41. Blue Says:

To the person who said Rangers-Celtic would only finish around 8-10th in the premiership did you account the fact that we would be able to spend the vast amount of money the English clubs can because of sky? Think of the extra money, sponsorship and being able to attract high calibre of players. Obviously within our current market we couldn’t compete but on a level playing field we would be able to match the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd.

  42. Ross Says:

We all know the premiership is better than the SPL. The fact is tho Rangers and Celtic are easily bigger than 90% of the teams in England with the exceptions being Man Utd and Liverpool. The fact is given 2 or 3 seasons Gers & Celtic would be challenging the big 4. sunderland on the other hand are no bigger than 3nd rate english teams e.g. middlesborough, birmingham,

  43. BlueThruAndThru Says:

Of course the EPL is of a FAR better standard than the SPL overall. You cannot deny Boyd’s talents though. Look at his record. He can only score goals against the teams he plays!!

MackemCol…….you seem awfully sure that Boyd wouldn’t hack it. You have yet to give a reason WHY he wouldn’t?? You can’t say because the EPL is better. How is that a foundation for Boyd to fail? Boyd would walk in to your team mate.

And, whilst I’m at it…..Rangers would absolutely pump Sunderland, every day of the week!!!

  44. Alex Says:

We still pump your teams in pre season and we dont do too badly in europe either, and that is WITHOUT the massive funds your team gets. tottenham, bolton, everton never got further than us in the UEFA Cup, we knocked out two teams that knocked out two english clubs. Within a few years of receiving the money that a club in the EPL does, rangers would be challenging for European spots consistantly in the EPL, unlike any other team outside the top 4 who might finish 5th one season but 12th the next

  45. MackemCol Says:

You seem to forget in the EPL you would just be average teams that would not have the ability to attract any decent players the only reason you can at the moment is because you are guaranteed european football every year while if you were both in the EPL that would not be the case (Celtic because of the size of their stadium and potential might make the grade). Our Average attendence last season was 43,344 in a 49,000 capacity stadium Rangers was 45,617 in a stadium with a 50,000 for a team battling it out for the title and a euro final while we struggled against relegation for most of the season I think that tells its own story Rangers would be in the same boat as us if you were in the SPL. Put us in the top 6 of the EPL we would need to extend the stadium again.

  46. MackemCol Says:

What I dont understand is why are Rangers selling him if he is rated that highly by you rangers fans it does not make any sense. And if he is so good why have no teams of note come in for him i.e top half premier clubs…what makes so many rangers fans think he could cut it no problem in the EPL however seem fine to sell him and get 2/3 million for him can you see where I am coming from none of it makes sense at all…..

  47. liamengland Says:

all ur facts are way off if u were to put celtic and rangers in the prem do u really think they will do any good. there about the same as boro and bolton not even as good as the likes as tottenham and villa. u only do well in that little league ov urs because u play the crap teams in ur league 3 times. and ur national team is useless never gonna do any good were as england will. bring on the word cup u can watch it from home because u wont be there……..

  48. Baggie boy Says:

Surely you need a brain Melanie, our forwards won’t go goal crazy in the PL and we need reinforcements…think about it luv

  49. Ibrox Ian Says:

Fellow Gers, do you think we should sell Boyd like it looks like we will..i still don’t understand signing Miller when we have the best striker in Scotland already!

  50. papaguy51 Says:

All this talk of Miller and Derby has brought me to think of something….

Shouldn’t Mackems be happy that Millers old club has saved Sunderland from being the worst Premiership team ever? Lowest points total? I think so.

Bigger than Rangers? Don’t make me laugh.

  51. MackemCol Says:

Its says it all though Papaguy Miller signs for the Gers as not one premier team in england wanted him but the Gers do….thats the level of talent your team can only attract now a player who scored 4 goals in the EPL and were relegated with the worst points and GOAL difference ever….says it all really …

  52. papaguy51 Says:

And do you see one Gers fan happy about Miller?

I’m not going to go down the list of big players we’ve attracted to our club. I feel no need, as any normal thinking person will know that Sunderland are not bigger than the Gers.

  53. BlueThruAndThru Says:

MackemCol……………..who is the better team. Sunderland or Rangers?

  54. Blue Says:

No Rangers fan wants Miller though and everyone knows he’s pish which makes the move baffling to say the least. I would see the diffrence is anyone thought it was a good move but the fans are outraged we spent just under £2m on a pish player.

Regarding stadium attendances our average was about 47500 which is impressive considering we played 68 games through the season and a few games where against first and second division sides. Also our lowest attendance was around 36000 in a 50000 seater stadium compared to Celtics 25000 in a 60000 seater hole.
