Tottenham Sign the Most Sought After Teenager in England: The Future Looks Bright for Spurs!

John Bostock: The Youngster with a Big Future at the Lane!Spurs have signed Crystal Palace’s 16-year old starlet John Bostock on a 5-year contract ahead of a host of interested clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and even Catalan giants Barcelona. The starlet’s contract with the Eagles expired last week and a tribunal decided that Spurs had to pay an initial fee of £700,000 for the player rising to £1.25m which in today’s market is next to nothing. It’s of no wonder that Palace Chairman Simon Jordan is fuming with the decision as he rated the player at nearer the £5m mark.

The youngster made his Palace debut as a 15-year-old after coming on as a 72nd minute substitute against Watford and has made only 4 senior appearances since. Bostock’s debut at 15 years and 288 days old made him the youngest ever Eagles debutant. The starlet may have yet to score a senior goal but his attributes include great pace, a strong left-foot and an excellent range of passing.

The young midfielder would join a long list of young British talent Tottenham have procured from the lower leagues. The likes of Michael Dawson, Aaron Lennon, Chris Gunter, Gareth Bale, Tom Huddlestone and Danny Rose all been signed in recent seasons so Bostock is in good company.

This signing is yet another massive signal of Tottenham’s intent to break the big four’s monopoly as Spurs have beaten all their main rivals to the signature of another player just as they did with Luka Modric earlier this summer.

Premier 10As we all know, this is going to be a very busy summer of comings and goings at White Hart Lane but the signing of England U17 international Bostock ahead of all their major rivals is surely a major coup and a massive step in the right direction. After all, if Barcelona were attempting to sign him so he can’t be bad, can he?

So is the Palace starlet the sort of signing Tottenham fans should welcome at the Lane or do you feel Spurs should be looking to sign proven experienced talent rather than continuing to invest in kids to take the club to the next level?

Let’s hear your views.

  1. Roger Says:

Great signing, we are finally able to compete with the supposed big 4 and generally beat them for players…the sleeping giant has awoken!

  2. Roger Says:

In a few seasons we will have one on the strongest sides in the PL with Giovani, Bostock, Modric etc coming to the fore..throw in Bale and possibly Bentley and we will be right up there..get a good DM and we are already incredibly strong. Hope we give Taarabt a chance this season too!

  3. Dave Winchester Says:

    What utter nonsense.

Do you really believe Spurs ‘beat’ anyone to the signings of Bostock or Modric? No of course they didn’t. The big clubs weren’t in for Bostock and passed on Modric because he is too small for the Premier League. Sorry to burst your bubble.

If this is a massive signal, it is a massive signal that Spurs are able to sign players that the big clubs don’t want. Congratulations.

  4. PAUL Says:

Ha Ha Ha same old Tottenham Fans!!!
Sorry if the big 4 were in for those players the big 4 would have got them, understand if players are exceptional they go to the big 4, these are not !!!1

16 mil for Modric, is desperation - like 15 mil, was for Bent !!!

  5. mjc Says:

    Bostock cost £700,000.
    Ramsey cost £5m.
So Bostock might feasibly be “the Most Sought After English Teenager” but certainly not “the Most Sought After Teenager in England”….

  6. SomerYid Says:

Dave WInchester- Im assuming you dont have a TV, Modric coped admiringly in Euro 2008, smaller players tend to ahve better balance, and im guessing he is the same size as Fabregas, so is he too lightweight for the prem?????

PAUL - maybe they want toplay regular football in an ongoing project, if Modric is not a big player I dont know what is, he is 22, touted as an exceptional playmaker, rave reviews from all, so I assume everyone is wrong!

Yes the team is not finished, not buy a long way, but the foundations for future progression are being laid, and that is something to excite the Spurs fans, that and Arsenal flogging there big names!

  7. gaycowboyshavespurs Says:

    most sought after?

id probally rate ramsey as being the higher rated target. and im not sure how well the barca story holds, they have an amazing youth line up and dont buy foreign for their youth set up as a rule.

it was probally the 5mil for sub standard player that put the big 4 off and spurs saw a gap. well guess he’ll grow into a living ledgend, like lennon (?) huddlestone (HAHA) and the “highly rated” dawson (roffles)

Tottenham in top 4 shocker… only reason we get that every season is because match of the days producer is a spud

  8. mjc Says:

SomerYid: There’s speculation that ONE Arsenal striker might be leaving. But I thought there was ongoing speculation about THREE Spurs strikers leaving. Why should it be the Arsenal fans that are worried?

  9. SomerYid Says:

To finance the stadium? Speculation seems to have changed, no new info for Berba, Lpool now have stated they are keen n Villa, so Keane link has gone. Yes Bent is linked with a move, but if so he will be replaced! And Poyet has said Keae wont go

  10. Roger Says:

I don’t remember Barca coming in for Ramsey…only 3 clubs apparently! Bostock has played a handful of games but even at 14 all the big boys were after him and Chelsea bid £900,000.

Barcelona don’t sign foreign youth players???? How about Dos Santos (Mexican) + brother, Lionel Messi (Argie), Assulin (Israeli)…the list goes on!!

  11. Mike Says:

I do not believe the big 4 were after modric or bostock. Spurs have paid over the odds for these players. I see a very dim future and what has happened to Lennon? A lot of agents can sell their players at high prices by saying MAN U or Arsenal are interested in their players and stupid clubs and stupid media believe them. Spurs have being paying a lot of money for rather average players.

  12. John Says:

Bostock’s contract was up hence how cheap he was…by the time he is Ramsey’s age he will be fare better and valued far higher!

  13. SomerYid Says:

I do not understand why it matters the top 4 werent in for certain players, the top 4 werent in for Berba, now the best clubs i Europe are, so how does it matter?

  14. PAUL Says:

I am not talking about size of players, it is ability, i am not saying Modric aint bad, i am saying 16 mil, and he did not look too special, did not change games. As for Bostock if say United wanted him they would have got him !! Like Dos Santos good player, he has a good season he will be gone, he even said that, spurs are a stepping stone thats all.

  15. mjc Says:

Arsenal bring in £3m a match, which is considerably more than Spurs will bring in while playing in Milton Keynes, so I don’t see the stadium as being a negative for Arsenal. Regards strikers leaving, I can’t see Adebayor being anywhere other than Arsenal next season. So no change for either club.
Regarding Modric, I think he’s an excellent technical player, rather like Pires. I do wonder how long he’ll take to settle in the Premiership (it took Pires 6 months), due to the fact that he’ll get a lot less protection from referees than he has been used to in Croatia or in tournament football. In the UEFA Cup though, I can envisage him taking Spurs a very long way.

  16. SomerYid Says:

Ok Paul, I appreciate what you are saying, I do disagree though, when getting space and on the ball he was slotting the front players through time and time again, in a ‘weaker’ team than most they played! Only time will tell, I understand that, but he impressed me, he impressed all that watched him, including the enire board of BBC pundits!. As for Dos Santos ive never seen that statement?!?

  17. SomerYid Says:

Technically Modric is good, very good, what we need though is the DCM prepared to do the ‘nitty gritty’! It is about how he adapts, hopefully quicker than Shevchenko! The building blocks are being put in place, young building blocks to expand on a time goes on, I cant see us top 4 any time soon, but I can see progression if we keep building and maturing! I think Arsenal can get better than Adebayor for less money anyhow, i do rate Ade, but people availabel like Huntelaar, yes they are unproven, but Wenger has proved to very shrewd and wise, so if Ade did go, im sure Wenger already knows of a more than capable replacement for him! I think this year will be the year RVP really takes off, he has done well, but this year I can see him being the No 1 striker!

  18. Chappers YID Says:

This is for Dave WInchester and PAUL.

It is very well known not all players want to sign for the big four as this will reduce their playing times in the first squad. At spurs and other clubs around us youngsters will be given more of a chance and so is more appealing.

Take Santos, he said it himself everyone was after him but he chose spurs to get more playing time.

  19. mjc Says:

Cheers SomerYid. Sometimes it’s worth people remebering that the two North London clubs are the only clubs operating within their means, but also using earned money to assemble entertaining football teams. This last bit excludes just about every other team in the Premiership.

  20. SomerYid Says:

    100% agree Chappers Yid!

  21. SomerYid Says:

I was actually just thinking MJC, its odd to have a decent debate between the two teams, without turning in to a slanging match! Plus I have many gooner friends, so I need to be careful what I say! I felt sorry for RVP last season as he was going to ‘take the mantle’ from Henry, but had a stop start season, I think because of that, and his will to get out there and do what he does will stand him in good stead for this year! It is good to see the 2 sides going about there business recently, unlike the Liverpool Barry saga also, and obviously the Real Ronaldo never ending play!

  22. Chappers YID Says:

Actually Paul you sort of contradicted yourself really as if the big four want a player they get him over Spurs, so why give an example of how your theory does not happen!

Yes he may want to play for a bigger team, but maybe in two years time spurs will be that bigger team and he stays.

Plus we will sell him for more so we win all round, will miss him if he left, but thats then not now.

  23. SomerYid Says:

Anyhow, best do some work now! Wish this was my job, good luck for the saason MJC, hope to see us up and around you in the Euro spots some time soon!!!!!

  24. graham gooner Says:

i hope bostok becomes a england regular by 21 because if he isnt you spuds will have failed and bostok would become a wasted talent i really do rate the guy and iam first to say well done spuds for getting him but dont do the stupid thing and say top 4 because we have the most sought after teenager in england…… bore zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz heard it all b4 actions speak louder than words. modoric looks good tho wouldnt mind him at arsenal as a bk up 4 fabregas as 4 dos santos will have to wait if he is good barcelona wouldnt of sold him?? but iam sure he will do ok if he gets the chance and thats what he didnt get at the camp nou.

  25. dan Says:

Hey the only reason you got this player is because the other big clubs already have better youngsters, plus the fact you are prob paying him good money. Yeh spurs have bought some good players but they have to adapt to the prem. You lot have nothing on arsenal, vela better than dos santos, fabregas is better than modric. Ramsey better than bostock. Plus the other endless amount of yougsters we have clichy, diaby, denlison, walcott, bendtner, traore etc etc. Your having a laugh if you think you will be better than us nxt season.

  26. PAUL Says:

Chappers, How can you say that Arsenal do not give kids a chance, wake up !!! They have Vela, so do not need Dos Santos, and 4 much less. Of course Dos santos will say yeah i turned down United, Arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan…REALLY!!! He did not even know who Tottenham are.

  27. Joseph Says:

So Simon Jordan lied when he said he turned down a million quid for Bostock off Chelsea when he was just 14 yrs old?
Bostocks own father lied when he said John had the chance to go to Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona but chose Tottenham because he didn’t want to move and felt he would progress better there?

You “fans”(glory hunters)of big clubs need to get your facts straight before you start talking nonsense.

Modric will be a star. Just hope we can keep him out of Barcas clutches for at least the next 3 years

  28. Brendan Says:

Think you hit the nail on the head there graham gooner. GDS didn’t get a chance at Barca so he wanted out to prove himself at another club. This doesn’t necessarily make him a sub standard player just because he couldn’t get in the team ahead of Messi eh? Time will tell I suppose.

  29. Chappers YID Says:

    Gooner Graham.

I do agree this signing is not the making of spurs into top four. None of the signings we have made are indivdually. But these signings do give us Yids reason to be hopeful along with Ramos first full season.

  30. Joseph Says:

Also, Vela will never start a Prem game for ARSEanal.
He will be plying his trade in the Segunda Division within 18 months trust me.

I saw him play on numerous occasions last term and he was awful.

Ramsey is almost 2 years older than Bostock.
Ramsey is a flamboyant wide man, Bostock is a midfield general in the making.
Two completely different players, but Bostock is rated higher. Will be an England regular by the age of 20 I promise.

  31. Chappers YID Says:

Paul. I did not say anywhere the bigger clubs do not play their youngsters they all do. I believe I said we would be able to offer them more playing time. If Walcock had come to spurs he would have been playing straight, but that is becasue the top four have bigger and better squads so SOME youngsters will want to pay elsewhere.

It seems Paul you just want an argument but you do not 100% know the full stories to what you want to argue about!!!

  32. Chappers YID Says:

Sorry some missing letters in my last response.

If Walcock had come to spurs he would have been playing straight away, but that is becasue the top four have bigger and better squads so SOME youngsters will want to play elsewhere.

  33. dan Says:

Yeh well vela is a good player seen him play a few times, you got think thou he playing for a poor team and he is young so he not going to be good in every game. He just as good if not better than dos santos and cheaper. We payed more for ramsey cos he actuallt played a number of 1st team game. The only reason you got bostock cheap is cos he only 16 and never really played any games. How do you know if he any good have you seen him play. Wilshere better than him i reckon same age but cos us nothing from the youth team.

  34. PAUL Says:

Who cares which youngster is rated higher…is that all spurs have to go on… !!! Is it like Almost signing Rivaldo a few years ago !!

  35. OBII TERRY Says:

sp*** can sign as many talents as they can ,let the season begin ,let them forget the no 4 spot they are so mad about.what do sp*** do on UEFA cup any way

  36. SomerYid Says:

OBII TERRY - seems to have come to gloat of this seasons silverware it seems?!?!? Success feels better when its earnt, and not bought!

  37. Chappers YID Says:

PAUL: What is your problem!!!!!! Your on a spurs article so thats why spurs fans are on here chatting about our young players. Why dont you F@#k off to another article where its about the Gunners!

  38. sydney_rob Says:

speakling as a ManU fan I have heard every year for the last 30 that next year will be a spurs year. Yes you have assembled a good crop of youngsters.

Fact, Some of your signings will turn into good players and some will be average at best
Fact, Some of your good players will leave to join bigger clubs.

Yes this may be the dawning of a new age, or it may be yet another false dwan.

Good luck with it, at least you generally try to play attractive football.

  39. Harrison Says:

I’m sorry but you can’t say hes going to be a massive hit until he is one as there has been so many players that are supposed to be the next best thing and never make it. And also jack wilshere at arsenal is a much better player than bostock and i have seen both of them play and wilshere is likely to be in the first team next year.

  40. Goner Says:

Someryid: How do you “replace” Bent?? Is there really a useless t0sser available for £15M AGAIN?!

  41. PAUL Says:

Chappers…sorry mate, but you come out with big 4 dont give youngsters a chance, so i am just stating a fact !!! Just cos you guys get all the young rejects TOP TEAMS dont want, and think they are all coups !!!

  42. Paul Says:

message for dan…you listed a load of youngsters that were better than players at Spurs….yet they are the same players that got spanked 5-1 last year. I am not saying that we are a better side than Arsenal…the league table provides the answer…but you need to think about what your writing first. I have lots of Arsenal mates and I actually enjoy watching your side play football…as they do play football unlike most sides in the PL. I would wait and see how the season pans out for all the news signings and young players before trying to say who is what without anyone of them kicking a ball at their respective new clubs. I just hope we have a good entertaining season and that Spurs don’t give up after February like this year!

  43. Scooby Says:

“If Man Utd had wanted him, they would have got him”. What, you mean like when they wanted Bale, but didn’t get him!?

This artile is overhyped and the signing of Bostock isn’t a massive signing. He will play a limited role next season, and is one for the future rather than a player for right now.

I’m really looking forward to next season, think we have a great sqaud of players, and although breaking into the top 4 is hard, I genuinely think we can do it this year!

    COYS!!

  44. PAUL Says:

But you were only club prepared to spend up to 10 million on him, plus he has been amazing eh !!! only cos saints are skint you have paid 8 mil and have been prepared to take a cut in order to get funds !!! But Yes Spurs is def place to be, for any player. Ask Van Der Vaart..he knows !

  45. PAUL Says:

Sorry i meant up to 10 million on BALE

  46. GioWasHisNameO Says:

Modric played in croatia…. do you reckon they play touch football out there? Utter drivel to say he won’t hack the physical side in the prem.

As for us paying over the odds for Bostock…. £700,000? Stolen as far as i’m concerned.

If we’re talking over the odds…. £12m for Walcott, £5m for Ramsey???

    Mugs.

  47. COYS Says:

oh the jealous fans are out agin.dint we sign hutton an bale over man utd an also a guy called berbatov turned down man u.

  48. sanity Says:

So mjc, Arsenal bring in £3m a game, more than Spurs. As a financial genius, perhaps you can tell us the financing costs on the £360million of debt they are carrying. Then perhaps break this down into cost per game. Presumably the credit crunch and the availability of mortgages will have no bearing on the sale of the properties Arsenal are holding
unsold. Lastly tell us why Arsenal are exempt from the downturn???

  49. level headed Says:

Will someone please start a website for Arsenal fans. They are lost without any topics worthy of discussion about the Woolwich Nomads. Flattering though it is for them to be besotted with Spurs their comments seem to be cut and paste jobs from the Kindergarden Gazette. OOH Arsenal are a big club… well why do they ignore them to be drawn lioke a moth to a flame to Spurs sites. Talk about closet admirers.

  50. PAUL Says:

Gio was his name: ha ha classic….15 mil for Bent, 8 mil for Bale… 8 mil for Zokora…anymore for anymore !!!

    Mugs ????

  51. Tricky Says:

I am a Spurs fan but am not overerly optimistic of breaking into the top 4 this year.
Personally I think that stability is the key for this season, top 4 is too much of a jump.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t aim for the top 4 that would be stupid but with the amount of new players coming in and some of the old guard leaving plus a manager that has not had a full year in the job in England top 4 is a very tough task.
Spurs fans should be looking for qualification to UEFA Cup (or whatever stupid name they decide upon for it) via a league position by right so top 6 finish is a minimum, plus we should also be looking at a good UEFA cup run as this is more likely to entice the next tier of players that we wish to sign.
The League cup should be used to blood in some of this talent should we get drawn against teams in the lower league so we can see how they cope.
It does worry me that we always seem to be buying the next big player when they are in thier teens but none of them seem to step up.
    Tarrabt something like 5 appearences
    Blondell - never settled.
Terry Dixon - everybody was raving about him 2 seasons ago but I have heard nothing since.
    Pekhart ……

Maybe we need better youth coaches as something doesn’t seem to be working.

    all imo as always
    Tricky

  52. COYS Says:

why are all arse fans on our sites when we sign a player, cause nothin to report on there side only departures

  53. COYS Says:

paul 20 mil for rayas rem him, 8 mil for jeffers…12 mill for wally wallcot, an it was not 15 for bent it was 10 mil upo front an rest on appearences an bonusess get that into ur thick head

  54. COYS Says:

TRICKY terry dixon had a bad injury an we have released him

  55. 2e-thfc Says:

PAUL are you saying bale is a bad buy? hahahahahahahahahaha you are an IDIOT his record speaks for itself games played - gols/assists. as for gio you havent seen him in prem yet hahaa you foooool. never heard such an idiotic way to make yourself look a foool.

  56. PAUL Says:

12 mil for reyes, jeffers 9 mil yes too…but they all won the league !!! And dont forget Campbell …Cost Nothing !!!

    Oh Sorry 10 mil for Bent..bargain !!

  57. COYS Says:

    there’s always one = paul

  58. 2e-thfc Says:

SCOOBY how can you say this transfer is overhyped when he could turn out to be best payer in te world? not saying it will happen by any means but stil…. lol!

  59. COYS Says:

i though they wud of been called ur so called “reserve players” 5-1 we hammered the scum players fighting cesc an addy had to come on fans leavin after 60 min = priceless

  60. 2e-thfc Says:

im going now i dont even want to read replies from fools who havent gota clue.if someones thinking of ryting “modric is to smal for prem” then please think twice, if you intend on making youself look silly then go for it.he outplayed ENGLANDS midfeild wen they played croatia, gerrad is hardly lightweight. oh yeah he got in team of the tournament in euro 2008 wen e onli played lyk 3 games. :D suk it…

  61. PAUL Says:

Coy: Yes mate brilliant result is it on your honours list now ?? you lot are so sad…one day you may really achieve something…nah !! Christ mate you dont wanna start digging up priceless moments against spurs…how long you got !!!

  62. James Says:

PAUL: Your on for an argument, but why? If you so happy and successful why bother here? Reason: Because you have a decent side that can’t win anything… You can’t win the Carling cup or the FA or the league or the Champions league. Your bitter that the only thing you can celebrate is finishing above Liverpool and us. You know your going nowhere and you hate the fact we enjoy watching our team, supporting OUR team and even specualting about OUR TEAM. We have both signed flops over the years, but always Arsenals biggest problem has been their fans. You are a perfect case in point. COYS!

  63. billiospur Says:

The next period for spurs will be stylish and exciting for any young players joining ……the club……so the way ramos and co decide this transition is an atractive place to be and in shape
Martin jol started the change of spirit in the club to a more positive outlook.
the new players are not fools and join quality…so all the usual banter aimed at reversing this process is to be expected………and will be answered on the park.

    Looka and de santos !

    B

  64. PAUL Says:

i love watching my team, as everyone else does!! But i love listening to the Tottenham fans, its funny. If carling cup matters to you so much, that shows why you will never be top 4, yr league form mate is sh*t, always has been, glory glory cup team at best !!

Yeah it will be answered on the park as always, 6 points as usual!!!

  65. James Says:

You see so easily wound up.. you guys are always so aggressive ON PAPER. Lets be honest that is all you lot are a top 4 team. You won’t win anything and you will keep selling players.. we haven’t got the mentality of a top 4 team… we as fans and as a team want to win trophies, whatever they are. You lot are content to be taking part.

  66. PAUL Says:

Trophies??? …..lets face it there is only 1 you can win, but only if the top teams play weakened teams… so keep on.

you forget we keep selling stars, and create new ones, which still keeps us top four, and you keep spending you millons on nothing as usual !!

  67. JD Says:

WHY IS JORDAN SO FECKING MAD SURLY THE TRIBUNAL HAVE COMPLYED WITH THE RULES REGARDING THIS YOUNG MAN IE HIS AGE , IE HIS VALUE AT THIS AGE , IE HIS CONTRACT AT PALACE IS FINISHED , IE HIS POTENTIONAL AND SELLING ON FEE , IE HIS SIGNING ON LENGTH OF TIME WITH SPURS , IE DID SPURS NOT OFFER PALACE A LARGE FEE FOR THE LAD AND THEY TURNED IT DOWN BECAUSE DIVA JORDAN WAS GREEDY , IE WAS JORDAN NOT THINKING OF BOSTOCK AND ONLY OF HIS OWN WALLET , IE BOG OFF GREEDY GUTS YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVED JORDAN , IE WHEN PALACE GAVE THE LAD HIS DEBUT WAS`NT JORDAN ONLY THINKING OF TRYING TO UP THE ANTI ON THE LAD , IE IT GO`S ON AND ON AND ON AND ON , C.O.Y.S.

  68. jj Says:

I saw on sky sports news a report..fabregas is one inch taller than modric so if your saying modric is too small for the pl then is fabregas?! Of course not!..and as for bostock the big four clubs including barca were in for him, but bostock and his father choose spurs because he has more chance of playing there so yes the bigger clubs did want him and no they didnt get him, the big 4 dont always get who they want..that doesnt always happen and to think it does shows you as an arrogant idiot who clearly doesnt know what your talking about! By the way chelsea actually put in an official bid for him too!

  69. James Says:

Once again the also ran mentality.. you would rather not win trophies, regardless to protect your also ran top 4 status. How did you do in the FA Cup? I hear Portsmouth won that.. another top 4 side? So all your stars enjoy being also rans until they leave.. You did have a winning team, but you DON’T anymore.

  70. jj Says:

Bostock is better than Wilshere in my opinion. Taarabt is better than Wilshere, ramsey and vela in my opinion!

And all these people that say Dos Santos is a sub standard player, well he was only a sub because there were better in front of him..messi for a start..walcock, ade, eduardo and rvp would all be second fiddle bench players to messi! Does that make them crap?! Answers on a postcard..

  71. PAUL Says:

Also ran mentality…ha ha!! you have never even been that, apart from your record against us!!! Bostock chose Spurs due to no-one being interested anymore. Chelsea bid over 2 years ago…typical Spurs sniffing round when big boys been there first 2 years later !! its been 4 years since we won the league 3 years since FA CUP. Please lads check yours it’s a crisis !!!!! 1961 last time lads, you are used to being mediocre

  72. SomerYid Says:

TO Goner, ill ask the same for Hleb then!

  73. James Says:

PAUL: Again your bragging about the past, but making a point that ours is too far in the past. Your happy to have won things 3 years ago.. also ran mentality.. But you are right we have never been that… we were never satisfied with not winning anything, no matter how recent our successes.. but it seems you are.. remember 2nd is the first loser, or to you its a step too far?
