Arsenal to Snatch Aston Villa Captain Gareth Barry From Under Liverpool’s Noses: Which Club Would be Best for Barry?

Gareth Barry: Will Arsenal’s Interest Turn the Player Away from Anfield?Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill has confirmed Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has enquired about signing Villa Captain Gareth Barry which could throw a major spanner in the works of Rafa Benitez’s transfer plans. There’s no doubt that the England midfielder is one of the Reds key targets this summer so to lose out on the player now would seriously jeopardise Liverpool’s title ambitions next season. Particularly if the player chooses to join one of the Reds main rivals instead.

The fact that Martin O’Neill has announced this juicy bit of information concerning the Gunners may well be a ploy to get the current impasse with Liverpool moving again rather than announcing the arrival of a serious contender for Barry. However, if Arsenal are about to enter the chase it could spell doom for Rafa’s hopes. After all, the Reds may have to sell before they can buy whilst the Gunners look set to offload Alexander Hleb in the next few days so will have cash to splash.

Barry could easily replace Flamini in the Arsenal midfield and would form a solid and consistent unit alongside Cesc Fabregas. The Villa star also has good technical ability so would fit straight into the one touch passing style of the Gunners side. Therefore, Wenger’s interest in the player isn’t too surprising. The only drawback is the price tag on the player’s head as neither interested club will want to pay the full Villa asking price though competition may force one of the sides to do just that.

So which club do you think would be the best move for Gareth Barry? Which club would further enhance his career or do you consider staying at Villa Park as the player’s best option? Vote and give your reasons why.
