The Graham Poll Column: Talking Respect and the Monster Mourninho Created at Chelsea

Friday, August 29th, 2008

R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Find out what it means to me! Clichéd, yes but who could resist a bit of Aretha! Its two weeks into the new season thus two weeks into the FA’s Respect Campaign and the future looks as bright as it can be. At the end of the day the essence of the Respect Campaign is asking the players and the manager to show restraint and there are always going to be times when they lose it. It’s called passion and the game would be dead without it.

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Just two weeks into the season and a number of critics have already made their minds up over certain club’s fate. For me, it’s far too early to make sweeping assumptions but I must say I have been impressed so far by all three club’s from the North-East.

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

The teams that finished 3rd and 4th in Serie A last season clash at Fiorentina’s Stadio Artemio Franchi this weekend. There’s no love lost between these two historic clubs so this should be a tempestuous affair between two of the strongest sides in Italy. Both clubs have been active in the transfer market and more importantly the home side retained their star striker Adrian Mutu despite Roma’s interest.

Aston Villa v Liverpool: All Square at Villa Park as All Eyes Focus on Barry?

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

The centre of attention this weekend will be focussed on one player as Gareth Barry lines up against the team he openly declared he wanted to join this summer. The Aston Villa midfielder has been involved in one of the most drawn out transfer saga’s of the summer which looks set to end in him staying in Birmingham. If one player will be determined to prove his worth then it’s surely Barry as after alienating his current fans he has been left in limbo by Liverpool’s failure to pay up whilst signing Robbie Keane for a similar amount.

Chelsea v Tottenham: Spurs Suffering Continues at Stamford Bridge?

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

These two London clubs could not be experiencing more contrasting fortunes after their opening two Premier League matches of the season. Chelsea have won both matches, scored 5 goals and are yet to concede. Their new signings have impressed as well as played crucial roles in their early season success. Tottenham on the other hand have lost both their matches against opposition they’d expect to beat, have scored twice (one an own goal), conceded 4 goals as well as have their star player mentally unfit to play. This match looks a no-brainer for Premier 10 and Footy 15 this week.
