French international striker Djibril Cisse’s chances of getting his dream move back to the Premier League seem to be diminishing despite West Ham and Man City‘s reported interest in the player. The Marseille striker’s agent Rank Stojic has confirmed that Roma are about to launch a bid for the player after failing to secure a deal for Fiorentina’s Adrian Mutu.
The agent revealed, “There are possibilities for Djibril to go to Roma but at the moment there haven’t been contacts between both clubs”.
“As a consequence I’m expecting a call from Roma’s directors. Cisse would fancy the Roma option, they are a great team.
“They have great players, last season they finished second behind Inter. It would be a new opportunity for Djibril.
“How much would he cost? You should ask Marseille.”
This will comes as bad news for both Man City and West Ham who were expected to launch bids to bring former Liverpool striker back to the Premier League from France. The 26-year-old is reportedly available for £8m from Marseille where he’s rediscovered his form following a disastrous 2-year spell on Merseyside.
The 5 ft 11 striker has scored 24 League goals in 56 matches since returning to France. This includes 16 League goals last season which left him joint 3rd top scorer in French football behind Karim Benzema (20 goals) and team-mate Mamadou Niang (18 goals). His past injury worries seem far behind him after playing in 35 League games last season (29 starts). This is significant after two horrific injuries in the past when playing for Liverpool and then France.
Cisse ended the season in superb form after scoring 5 goals in his last 6 league games but failed to make the final cut for the Euro 2008 squad. This came after the striker missed the 2006 World Cup after a horrific injury in the final warm up match before the tournament. His international record remains 9 goals in 37 appearances for France.
Despite being considered a flop in England the fast forward has a pretty impressive career record of 107 goals in 233 League appearances for Auxerre, Liverpool and Marseille. The flamboyant character has also won plenty of silverware including a French Cup, the FA Cup, the Champions League, the European Supercup and the Confederations Cup. Not a bad record now, is it?
So would you like your club to sign the flamboyant French striker or do you consider him vastly overrated? Let’s hear your views.
