Dundee United v Celtic: An Easy One for the Bhoys?

Another one for Hesselink against Dundee? They say football’s a funny old game, a game of two halves. Well, Dundee Unitedwill by hoping these clichés ring true. Having failed to get anything from their opening game against newly promoted Hamilton, how will they fair against the reigning SPL champions?

Despite taking the lead - albeit a gifted one at that when an unlucky McLaughlin headed into his own net - United failed to make the most of their fortunate circumstances and conceded a quick equaliser and then the lead, controversially, before half time. A third goal finally prompted United to throw forward an attack but could not get past the sturdy Tomas Cerny.

Celtic may have started the defence of their league crown with a win but theirs too was a performance which did little to inspire. It was obvious that the controlled possession particularly in the first half but what they lacked was any real tempo to drive them through into St Mirren’s half and the result was only settled courtesy of a dubious penalty that saw St Mirren’s Haining unfortunate to be dismissed.

Footy 15 - the new £100,000 football predictor game from the New Football PoolsGordon Strachan will be hoping for much improvement as they tackle a team that celebrity pools pundit Tony Cascarino dubs as the third best team in the SPL. History is certainly on the Bhoys side. Dundee United have not enjoyed a home win against Celticsince 15 August 1999. Strachan’s Bhoys are unbeaten in their last 32 games against the Terrors with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink netting on his last two visits to Tannadice Park.
