Fabio Capello finally made his decision on his choice as England Captain today with John Terry keeping the armband he wore under Steve McClaren. This has come as a surprise with much of the press suggesting it was Rio Ferdinand who’d get the nod.
Our New Football Pools pundit and former Liverpool star John Barnes gave us his views on just who should get to wear the armband prior to the announcement.
He said, “Rio would be my choice for the England Captaincy as he has matured considerably in recent years and is now a far more consistent and dominant figure”.
However, the former Liverpool star did not discount the suitability of the other candidates by adding, “Steven Gerrard and John Terry are both fine players in their own right and whether it was either of them or Rio it wouldn’t make that much of a difference to the team, as all are perfectly capable”.
