Phil Brown’s Brave Approach at Arsenal & Quality Buys Secret to Hull Success Says Former Chelsea & Aston Villa Star
Football Pools Pundit and former Republic of Ireland star Tony Cascarino has praised Hull’s performance last weekend at Arsenal and their summer transfers. He praised the Tigers manager by commenting, “This weekend we saw what can happen if your transfer policy works for you with Hull’s win at the Emirates. Tigers manager Phil Brown was very brave in his selection at Arsenal playing both Marlon King and Daniel Cousin up front rather than doing what most sides do and flood the midfield away at the Emirates. This brave approach paid off big time.”
Cascarino suggested Hull’s efforts in attacking the Gunners on their own patch paid off, “Obviously Hull had to ride their luck at times with centre half Turner and goalkeeper Myhill playing particularly well but they got their reward for having a go at the Gunners.
He praised the newly promoted side’s attitude on the day, “Arsene Wenger alluded to the fact he felt Hull were the more determined of the two sides on the day and I must say I have to agree with him.”
The former Millwall striker congratulated Brown on his summer arrivals, “Hull have done fantastic this season especially away from home and a lot of that has to do with the transfers they made in the summer. People say the gap between the Championship and the Premier League is enormous; well it’s bigger than that.
“That’s why Phil Brown went out and bought in 9 players. You have to do that if you are to compete at this level so what Hull did was spot on. It shows what can happen if your transfers work for you.”
So do you agree that Hull’s summer transfers have given the club an edge this season? Would Hull have been able to compete with the same set of players as last season? Do you agree that the Tiger’s ‘have a go’ attitude has reaped its rewards? Let’s hear your views.

TOtally right Tony, Phil Brown has bought brilliantly and has shown he is not afraid to attack whoever we play particularly away. Apart from the game with Wigan we have not been outclassed by anyone!

I think Phil Brown has brought in players who for one or another have things to prove - wanting to kick start their careers and show those who have doubted them how good they actually are.(The plus side is they arrived under priced in many respects.) The result is they are all highly motivated and are keenly competing for places in the starting lineup. Result, a hungry and motivated team with a sound backbone of key last season’s players led by a natural leader in Ashbee. Early days yet, but this team can make a real impression if they keep it up. I think both Turner and Marney are getting better and better and maybe have much more to come.
