Spurs Too ‘Billy Big Time’ & Should Copy JT’s Chelsea Says Former Marseille & Aston Villa Star

Too ‘Billy Big Time’?Former Chelsea star and Football Pools Pundit Tony Cascarino has called into question the attitude of the Tottenham players after their poor start to the season. The former Republic of Ireland star deflected the blame of the new arrivals when he had this to say, “For me, it’s the players who have remained at the club who must shoulder most of the blame.”

He went on to criticise the performance of Spurs England internationals by claiming, “Players like Jonathan Woodgate and Jermaine Jenas have been poor. In fact, when Ramos took over the club Jenas was fantastic for him, he was almost like a new player. Unfortunately he has now returned to his old form or worse.”

Cascarino suggested the Tottenham team is lacking stability, “The problem for Spurs is the players don’t seem to know where they stand with Ramos. This is summed up by Darren Bent playing out of his skin in pre-season only to find himself benched a few games in.

Footy 15“The Spaniard doesn’t seem to know his best eleven which is unsurprising as no-one is doing enough to keep their place in the side. I am not a fan of Didier Zokora but he had the best game I’d seen of him against Pompey and he got subbed off!”

Cascarino goes on to criticise the attitude of the players, “I’ve always thought Spurs players to have a ‘Billy big time’ attitude despite not actually achieving much apart from a Carling Cup win in the last few years.

The former Millwall star goes on to question the lack of leadership on the pitch, “The captaincy has been passed around with Ledley King injured but to be fair there are no leaders at the club anyway. None of the players seems to wear their hearts on their sleeves with the exception of perhaps King.”

Spurs Should Copy JT’s AttitudeCascarino went on to compare between the attitudes of Spurs and Chelsea, “The current attitude of the (Chelsea) players is summed up by John Terry. There’s no ‘Billy big time’ in the Blues squad, JT wouldn’t allow it.

“You only had to watch the performance at Stoke to see what Chelsea are all about. Two minutes to go, 2-0 up and JT threw himself in front of an effort from 18 yards out. That’s the mentality they have within the club, a mentality which Spurs are in desperate need of.”

Is Tony Cascarino right to suggest the attitude of the Spurs team is poor? Is it fair to draw comparisons with Chelsea? Do Spurs lack a leader like John Terry to take charge on the pitch? Let’s hear your views.

  1. IAQTL Says:

No “billy big time” players at chelsea? I’m sorry but that club is exactly full of that!

Terry, Lampard, Ballack Cole etc are the worst type of player.

..and to prove that Cascarino that as always talks bull is the fact he says woodgate has been poor! The guy, as always, has been oustanding and should be in the England squad. Twice the player Terry the thug is. Do you see him, Jenas or Bale peeing in a nightclub? Beating people up? Nope!

maybe chelsea fans and players and ex players realise that their club is just a small club with a rich owner and that “poor club” has more trophies to its name?

  2. Spurs star Says:

To be fair though Terry, Lampard, Ballack and Cole etc all work for the team every week can you say the same about Jenas, Lennon, Woodgate etc…I know who I would rather have in my side and it hurts to say that!!!

  3. Terry Says:

I hate to say it but our players do seem to think they are above trying…look at Wigan at the weekend…every seen our players work like that?/?

  4. Mike B Says:

I really enjoy reading impartial, unbiased journalism…..

God I hate Tony ‘Former Chelsea Star’ Cascarino

  5. Bradley Says:

Cascarino is an idiot. An average player who lacked class and an even worse pundit; still without class. I wonder if a “Billy Big Time” attitude includes storming off from a training session because his manager (Glen Hoddle) showed up how bad his touch was. Also calling him a “former Millwall player” doesnt erase the fact he also played for Chelsea - but then the story wouldnt seem so unbiased then would it?

Go and have a gamble Tony - if brains were dynamite you couldnt blow your nose.

  6. JP Says:

I am a Spurs fan but the fella is right, our players seem to think we are better than they are. The effort at Portsmouth was abysmal, no heart…i am no Chelsea fan but his argument is correct!

  7. Martin Jol Says:

Any realistic unbiased Spurs fan can seen we lack heart and leadership…just because something criticises our players can’t we accept it? you lot are the same people who’ll be moaning on the terraces exactly the same thing

  8. Luke M Says:

Seems like half you Spurs fans can’t see the wood for the trees. If you’re players are the same no wonder you’re bottom.

Cascarino is spot on and if it doesn’t change soon it’ll be Championship football for you.

  9. Sir Cecil Says:

What Cascariono forgets is that loyal Spurs fans will support their team no matter what he says. And that’s great news because they’ll be stuck watching the kind of rubbish they’re seeing now for a long time to come. My delight at seeing Tottenham BOTTOM of the league, performing below the level of the likes of Hull, West Brom, Sunderland and even Newcastle, is immeasurable. Sheer joy. The Spurs fans’ frustration is wonderful to witness.

  10. Sir Cecil Says:

Next time Spurs are on TV, playing at home, look at the faces of their supporters behind the goal. I replay the goals over and over, but I’m not watching the players… I’m gleefully lapping up the horror, dejection, sadness, and bewilderment on the faces of their fans. Each time I replay the scene, I focus on a different fan, so I can enjoy each one’s torment as a goal goes in. It’s terrific fun to watch. The ones who get angry and start cursing their own players bring particular enjoyment.

  11. shaun Says:

I’m a Spurs supporter and I cannot believe that there are people on here slagging off Tony Cascarino… He’s dead right, Spurs are full of over rated players who think they’re something else. But he’s wrong to say that Chelsea don’t have any Billy Big Time players… JT is the biggest of the lot, however he plays for his shirt which is the main difference.

  12. brian Says:

sir cecil, that’s the funniest post i’ve ever read!!!! i’ve decided to sky plus all the spud games from now on so that i can share in the unbridled joy of seeing the deluded small time spuds suffer……in slow motion!!!!
