Luis Fabiano: Man City to Outbid Chelsea for Brazilian Star Striker
Sevilla’s exciting Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano is a reported target of Man City in January according to his agent. Jose Fuentes claims that City are amongst a host of clubs tracking the player despite an indifferent season for his club. He is quoted as saying, “Manchester City have asked about Fabiano but that is not unique because they are just one of many.”
One of those many clubs is expected to be Chelsea who were strongly linked to the club in the summer and may well resume their interest with Didier Drogba reportedly trying to leave Stamford Bridge. However, just like with Robinho, Man City may outbid the current league leaders.
The Brazilian star only recently signed a new 3-year deal with his Spanish club so won’t come cheap but as we’ve learnt over the past few seasons money talks and City have the funds to not take no for an answer.
The 28-year-old enjoyed another prolific campaign last season with only former Mallorca star Daniel Guiza scoring more than his 24 League goals in La Liga. This tally is even more impressive as only 2 of those 24 goals came from the penalty spot. This season Fabiano has scored just 3 goals in 9 League appearances (8 starts) but recently showed his quality for Brazil with a hat-trick in the 6-2 friendly win over Portugal.
Brazilian Fabiano has had a nomadic career after playing in his homeland Brazil, France, Portugal and Spain. However, an expected move to England last summer to Spurs was put on hold after he decided to extend his current deal making his one of the highest earners at the club alongside Fredi Kanoute and Sebastien Squillaci. Although now Man City are ready to make their move this situation could change.
Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham are not the only clubs to have shown an interest in the exciting Samba star with Arsenal, Newcastle, Real Madrid and even Manchester United reported to be tracking the player’s progress in the past.
Sevilla are the 6th club of his career after he joined them in 2005 after a disappointing season with Porto where he scored just 3 goals in 22 League appearances. However, since appearing in La Liga the Brazilian has scored 42 goals in 88 League games.
Fabiano has also played himself back into the national side where he holds a superb record of 14 goals in 23 caps. His recent hat-trick for Brazil is his 2nd in just 4 games for both club and country after netting 3 in a recent Copa Del Rey match with Ponferradina.
He is of a similar style of player to Nicolas Anelka as he tends to play on the shoulders of defenders rather than linking the play with his back to goal whilst he could comfortably work in tandem with Jo at City who is more of a targetman. A move to Eastlands would also see the player link up with his compatriots Jo, Elano and Robinho. The striker won’t come cheap but that is no longer a problem for Man City and their owners and he also fits the bill as a top name player.
Do you think City can tempt the exciting striker to Eastlands or do you think he would suit a move to should make a move for him? Is his style suited to English football? Let’s hear your views.

No chance, he doesn’t fit the bill of what City need.
