Which London Summer Signing has Proven to be the Best Business? Which of Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham & West Ham New Boys is the Best?
Once again a number of exciting new additions were made by Premier League clubs in the summer. The five London clubs in the top flight brought in a number of exciting big names. We at The New Football Pools want to know who you would judge as the best summer signing made by a Premier League club from the capital.
Chelsea brought in two of the Portuguese national squad in terms of attacking midfielder Deco and wing raiding full-back Jose Bosingwa. Both hit the ground running as Chelsea stormed to the top of the Premier League playing a far more creative passing style than they had in the past. However, Deco has since struggled with injury whilst the Blues have not looked their rock solid best at the back in recent matches. Bosingwa has started all 15 Premier League clubs under Scolari and his attacking foray’s have been a key element of Chelsea’s new tactics under their Brazilian coach whilst Deco has played in 12 League games (11 starts) and scored twice. Would you consider either of these players as the best summer signing made by one of the London clubs?
Arsenal made few summer signings but the significant new arrivals came in the shape of Cardiff teenager Aaron Ramsey who has broken into the first team squad and the French international Samir Nasri who has weighed in with some important goals without setting the Premier League alight. In 11 League appearances (10 starts) the former Marseille man has scored 4 goals including two in the recent win over Manchester United. Do you believe either of these players are the best new arrivals in London?
West Ham’s main summer signing was the Swiss international Valon Behrami whilst Fulham’s new strikeforce of Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson were heralded as the pair to shoot the Cottagers away from the relegation battle of last season. Zamora has yet to net in 14 League appearances but AJ has scored 4 times and has started to look like the Premier League force he once was.
Then there’s the numerous new arrivals at White Hart Lane. Luka Modric was expected to be the genuine world class midfielder Spurs had been crying out for but struggled under Juande Ramos until Harry Redknapp’s arrival but has since started to look more like the player Tottenham splashed the cash for. Similar can be said of Roman Pavlyuchenko who has now scored 7 goals for a supposedly struggling side.
Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was brought in as a replacement for Paul Robinson but as the team struggled so has he. His reputation has been reduced to tatters in the early part of the 2008/09 season but seems to be on the mend as the majority of the Tottenham new boys are. Would you consider any of the Spurs new boys the best signing made by a London club? Let’s hear your views.
