Liverpool Legend John Barnes on Manchester United Clash with Inter Milan

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Manchester United put on another assured, confident display over in the San Siro against Inter in midweek. I thought they’d dominate the game as they are stronger and quicker than the Italians and that’s how it panned out. Inter did come into the match in the second half so the 2nd leg isn’t going to be easy for United by any means.

Liverpool Legend John Barnes on Arsenal Win v Roma & Why They Suit European Football

Friday, February 27th, 2009

The Arsenal v Roma clash proved to me what I thought already, that the English clubs would have the upper hand over the Italians. If anything, Arsenal may be more suited to the style and tempo of Champions League football.

John Barnes on Chelsea Win v Juventus & Didier Drogba

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Chelsea beat Juventus 1-0 at Stamford Bridge but Guus Hiddink was quick to point out he was not particularly happy with the performance. Personally, I thought it was a decent performance but no more than that. The Chelsea side should have closed the game out better than they did, ok they kept a clean-sheet but they rode their luck at times.

John Barnes on Liverpool Away Win at Real Madrid & Rafa’s Future

Friday, February 27th, 2009

The 1-0 win in Madrid on Wednesday was very much a typical Liverpool performance in Europe under Rafa Benitez. The team was extremely well organised and I couldn’t see Real scoring at any point in the 90 minutes. The goal from Yossi Benayoun was a huge bonus too which sets my old club up with a fantastic chance of progressing. Many critics seemed surprised with the result but I honestly didn’t expect Real Madrid to cause Liverpool too many problems.

Tony Cascarino on Chelsea Strikers Drogba & Anelka Plus Zamora at Fulham

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Bobby Zamora has received a lot of criticism this season following a poor goal return but has now scored twice in a week. Fulham have done very, very well this season and though Zamora hasn’t scored many goals he does do a good job for Roy Hodgson’s team.

Tony Cascarino on Arshavin Arsenal Debut & Why Gunners Keep Dropping Points

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Andrey Arshavin impressed me on his Arsenal debut at the weekend even though the Gunners could not make a breakthrough against Sunderland. In fact, he was the one shining light of the game and performed well. I’ve never doubted that he’d be a good player for the club as he’ll fit in perfectly with their style of play as he ticks all the boxes as a typical Arsenal player.

Tony Cascarino on Spurs, the Uefa Cup, Cudicini, Keane, King & Manchester Utd Carling Cup Final

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Harry Redknapp received a lot of criticism for fielding a weakened side in the Uefa Cup first leg tie with Shakhtar Donetsk but for me, he had no choice. The Uefa Cup means nothing to Harry Redknapp in relation to survival in the Premier League which is quite ironic seeing that Spurs could be back in the competition if they beat Manchester United in the Carling Cup final this Sunday.

Keirrison: Will Liverpool & Arsenal Target Stay in Brazil or Will he go?

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Rafa Benitez made a late failed deadline day move for a young Brazilian striker known as Keirrison de Souza Carneiro or just plain Keirrison for short. He would have joined as a direct replacement for Tottenham bound Robbie Keane but the move failed to come off but now the battle for the starlet’s signature is heating up.
