Alan Hansen: ‘Sad Way’ to End Scotland Career for Rangers Stars McGregor & Ferguson

Alan HansenThe disappointing thing for me concerning the scandal regarding both Allan McGregor and Barry Ferguson is that both players were actually given a 2nd chance but still didn’t learn their lesson.

The Rangers Duo Facing Lifetime Scotland International BansThe pair of players are experienced enough not to have acted how they did and to be honest their behaviour has left George Burley with no option.

To not only be told you can no longer play for country but also likely for their club will be a big blow to the players. However, if you act as stupidly as these two did then that’s the consequences.

Both McGregor and Ferguson will have to live with what they did but it’s a very sad way to end your international and perhaps Rangers career.

How do Rangers fans feel about the punishment for their two stars? Is it an over-exaggeration of justified? Let’s hear your views.

punishment must fit the crime, in this case it has not been.
punished twice for same crime would not happen in law. the inability by the sfa to send the pair home left them open to assassination by the press and vilification by the fans. and at that time. they had only been involved in a drinking session. the 2 fingered salute to the press was childish however, we are human and are prone to making stupid decisions when our better judgement tells us not to. however to take things to the stage of ending a footballing carear beggars belief.

Way over the top and the cynic in me would think that dropping only the 2 of them for the game against Iceland, despite more being involved in the drinking, suited Burley because he always wanted Gordon in goals and the Midfield was out of shape with Fletcher, Brown and Ferguson so it needed one to drop out. Whilst the V-sign was childish, that’s all it was and to never play for your country as a result is a joke. I was at the game and felt sick at the pair of them being booed by their own fans. That was disgusting, not the V-sign. Rangers then seize the opportunity to try to push the 2 out the door in order to remove the large salaries from their books. How can anyone justify their club career being ended because of this? Personally, I would have dropped Ferguson from Rangers months ago for his failure to recapture previous form and dropped him from the starting Scottish 11. That would have been fair, instead of the witch hunt that we have witnessed. What a dangerous precedent we have set.

Everyones got an opinion..and the only two voices we aren’t allowed to hear are from the players themselves.
Was it fair to discipline 2 players whilst
letting another 5 go Scot-free and 4 of them played against Iceland.
There has been countless situations in the past with players misbehaving..the England teams famous chair incident..
Eric Cantona actually assaulting a fan
because he ddin’t like what the fan was saying to him.
These are just two examples..did England drop their players for the Euros? No!…Did the England players repay the mangers faith ON the field during the Euros?..a big resounding yes to that.
Cantona was put up as some sort of hero for lashing out at some daft guy in the crowd..yet Ferguson and McGregor have been banned for life for showing petulance against a tabloid newspaers
    cameraman.
Dress it up all you want..these guys have been treated as if they are criminals.
An 8 page spread in the S#n Tabloid about the demise of Ferguson..and this was before he stuck two fingers up at cameramen.
You see the rules are.. that newspapers with no morals are allowed to print what they want about you..
you are supposed to accept that..you are suppose to not react to 40,000 fans booing you ddespite giving 10 years service to the national team for NO pay.
Perhaps Ferguson should have took a swing at the cameraman..and like Cantona he would have been seen as some sort of hero!
Not in this sad twisted little country of ours I’m afraid.
