Juan Arango: Liverpool to Finally Sign the ‘Caribbean Hurricane’

Juan Arango: The Caribbean HurricaneRafa Benitez is reportedly chasing Mallorca’s flying winger Juan Arango this summer. The 29-year-old Venezuelan has been tracked by numerous Premier League clubs such as Spurs, Arsenal and Aston Villa in the past but looks finally set for his dream move to England in 2009.

The attacking left-winger has been plying his trade in Spain for Real Mallorca for the past 5 seasons despite being linked to the Premier League on a number of occasions. The 5 ft 10 winger has been a consistent figure in Spain having played over 30 League games in each of his five campaigns in the Primera Liga. In fact, he’s missed just 7 League games in this time after playing in 181 of Mallorca’s last 188 League matches. The Venezuelan international has also been a regular goal scorer after netting 45 League goals including 12 last season (his most productive season yet).

The Mallorca star’s career began with Venezuelan side Caracas prior to moving to Mexico where he starred for Monterrey, Pachuca and Puebla sides before earning a move to Spain in 2004. Arango is widely regarded as the best Venezuelan footballer ever produced as very few have ever played in any of the major European Leagues. A high profile move to England would only increase that opinion in his homeland.

Arango has now played a total of 81 times for his country (17 goals) which makes him the 5th most capped player in their history. He also Captains the side.

The Mallorca star’s nationality would not cause a problem in negotiating a possible transfer as he’s obtained dual nationality due to his 5 years in Spain. The player nicknamed ‘Arangol’ as well as the ‘Caribbean Hurricane’ was heavily linked to Liverpool in the 2008 January transfer window.

He had this to say at the time, “Liverpool are a team of champions and I ask myself what footballer wouldn’t be pleased to play for that club?” Arango added, “For one of the greatest clubs in the world?”.

However, a move to Anfield did not come to fruition but with Rafa set to recruit some attacking talent in the summer he may well finally earn a move to Merseyside. Arango’s winning goal in Mallorca’s 2-1 win over Barcelona last weekend will have brought the player back to the attention of numerous interested clubs so Rafa Benitez have to move quickly.

So would you like your club to sign the Mallorca star or would you prefer another potential target? Let’s hear your views.
