Matias De Federico: The Dazzling ‘New Messi’ Heading To Liverpool?
Liverpool are reportedly preparing a bid for the Argentinian starlet Matias De Federico who has been labelled the ‘new Lionel Messi’ in his homeland after a starring role in Huracan’s surprise Clausura league title win.
This led to a call-up by Argentina coach Diego Maradona who gave the 20-year-old his debut in a 3-1 win over Panama back in May in which De Federico scored.
De Federico was born in Buenos Aires and his comparisons with Messi are obvious due to 5 ft 7 stature and excellent ability to dribble. The Huracan star has established himself as a top player this season, making 20 league appearances (19 starts) and scoring 6 goals in both the Apertura (Opening) and Clausura (Closing) championships. Previous to this, De Federico had started just one league game and made 14 substitute league appearances. However, as Huracan took the Clausura title, De Federico and his young team-mate Javier Pastore have received many plaudits.

Liverpool are thought to be leading the chase for the talented youngster and will have been encouraged by recent quotes from the winger, “I like to watch the English Premier League, it is very fast and I think that it would suit my speed well.”
The Argentine starlet plays predominantly on the right-hand side like Messi but is also left-footed so can be dangerous whether cutting inside or going down the flank. Huracan rejected a bid from Brazilian side Botafago last season but Liverpool should have the finances to sign the youngster to join fellow Argentines Emiliano Insua and Javier Mascherano at Anfield.
Do Liverpool need a player like De Federico who is renowned for his pace and crossing ability? Should Liverpool look to sign a finished product rather than an exciting young talent? Let’s hear your views.

This is exactly what we need, a versatile winger for either flank and someone who could act as cover for Torres if need be. Costs less than a lot around. Chips in with goals and is young. Knows Insua and so you can imagine the two overlapping on the left, or even with Johnson down the right. As a long term investment could make the club a lot of money. But if he’s a patch on messi then we could, should and would have a lot of competition bringing him to Pool.

This is what we have been looking for at LFC. With Afellay, we can let masch and alonso leave. They dont want to play for lfc anymore. Then, why to keep them. Better cash on them.

This guy is fast and quite good in dribbling. He can be the right wing to add value for areas that kuyt may not be able to deliver.
Although he may not make some impacts on the team, he can be a useful squad player.
Of course, to compete for champion, buying finished product, esp. star, is preferrable than buying players with potential.
