Sevilla’s exciting Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano looked set to join Italian giants AC Milan this week but now these talks have broken down over the fee involved. This leaves the door open for the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal to make their move.
The player’s agent Jose Fuente had declared the player wanted to join Milan but also warned that the player would not come cheap. He told Sky Sport Italia, “Like Manchester United and Barcelona, Fabiano would join the Italian side (AC Milan). Any footballer would be happy to join such a major club. Milan are a major world club.
“At the moment he is a Sevilla player, but I cannot say that he will be there next season. He is on the same level as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Villa and Emmanuel Adebayor.
“€30m. The club would have to spend that amount to sign the player. I don’t think Sevilla will sell him for anything less.”
According to reports that fee is the stumbling block in any move to Milan as Sevilla are loathed to sell him for anything less than his £25m buy-out clause. Sir Alex Ferguson this week announced he would not be delving into the transfer market again this summer but this news may make him think again as it was widely anticipated than Fabiano joining AC was a done deal. The Gunners are set to sell Emmanuel Adebayor to Man City this week which will allow them the funds to compete for the Brazilian. They’ve also been linked to Klaas Jan Huntelaar and the far cheaper alternative Marouane Chamakh but the signing of the Sevilla star would be a huge statement of Arsenal’s ambition to compete with the likes of Chelsea, United, Liverpool and Man City next season.
AC Milan director Leonardo Cantamessa has revealed Luis Fabiano’s proposed move from Sevilla has reached a ‘dead end’.
The breakdown of negotiations with Milan have been confirmed by AC director Leonardo Cantamessa. He revealed to Sky Sport Italia, “The negotiations for Luis Fabiano have reached a dead end.”
“Our talks have always been with Sevilla and only with that club, not the player. We have made our offer and, as they said no, it has been revoked.
“You need to ask (vice-president Adriano) Galliani if there will be another offer, but at this moment I really don’t think so.”
The player’s agent Jose Fuentes contradicted the end to negotiations when he told tuttomercatoweb: “We are waiting for Milan to return as their first offer was a little too low.
“Milan must push a little more. If not, the negotiations could continue for some time.”
“The market value of the player is around €20million (£17m), and this seems to me to be the right figure.
Chelsea were strongly linked to the club last summer and may well resume their interest with new manager Carlo Ancelotti looking to make one ‘big’ signing after failing to bring in a number of potential targets.

The Brazilian star only signed a new 3-year deal with his Spanish club last season so won’t come cheap but as we’ve learnt over the past few seasons money talks there are a number of English clubs who can afford to pay what Milan cannot. Manchester United have shown past interest and after an impressive Confederations Cup where he won the Golden Boot with 5 goals in as many games he may be back on Sir Alex’s radar after all.
The 28-year-old didn’t enjoy the most prolific of campaigns last season after scoring 8 goals in 26 league appearances (21 starts). However, in 2007/08 only former Mallorca star Daniel Guiza scored more than his 24 League goals in La Liga. This tally is even more impressive as only 2 of those 24 goals came from the penalty spot.
Brazilian Fabiano has had a nomadic career after playing in his homeland Brazil, France, Portugal and Spain. However, an expected move to England last summer to Spurs was put on hold after he decided to extend his current deal making his one of the highest earners at the club alongside Fredi Kanoute and Sebastien Squillaci.
Sevilla are the 6th club of his career after he joined them in 2005 after a disappointing season with Porto where he scored just 3 goals in 22 League appearances. However, since appearing in La Liga the Brazilian has scored 47 goals in 105 League games (88 starts).
Fabiano played himself back into the national side where he holds a superb record of 22 goals in just 31 caps. Not only did he score 5 goals at the Confederations Cup but he also scored a hat-trick back in November in a 6-2 friendly win over Portugal. The Brazilian has now scored 11 goals in his last 10 international appearances.
He is of a similar style of player to Nicolas Anelka as he tends to play on the shoulders of defenders rather than linking the play with his back to goal whilst he could comfortably work in tandem with the likes of Dimitar Berbatov or Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford. Arsene Wenger has tended to prefer pace in his attack and Fabiano’s style would suit the free-flowing Gunners with the creativity and width they possess in their ranks.
Do you think your club should make a move for him now the Milan deal is in jeapordy? Is his style suited to English football? Let’s hear your views.

It will make so much sense if Arsenal sign him.Not likely though since the Prof hardly goes for finished products.
I really think that manutd should not buy fabiano he is not a proven goal scorer at club level
really good player, he’s certainly had to grow on me but you couldnt go too wrong signing him. I’d love arsenal to go for him or huntelaar tbh n wouldnt be fussed which. Really good in the air too.
lol chibike what u on about????the guy has 1 of the best club scorn record in spain since he arrived there, would diffintly score 30+ a season if he joins asrenal or man u nooo doubt, hope arsenal get him or ETOO as ADE replacemnt.
actually after thinkin about it i’d rather we get Huntelaar. He’s a real talent and Wenger could get the most out of him n playin up front with van Persie n Arshavin could be incredible. I’d love us to get a natural finisher n out-n-out striker though.
(I know we’ve got Eddy n Vela but tbh I’m not sure Eduardo’s gonna reach the heights he could have anymore n Vela isnt first-team yet)
i think arsenal should sign him. hes too old for chelsea and he cant rly compete with drogba and anelka, and arsenal need this kind of player. age is not a problem for them
