Aston Villa v Tottenham: Top Football Journalists Give Their Predictions
Aston Villa v Tottenham this weekend promises to be an indication of which of these two teams is best equipped the challenge the Premier League big four status quo. Spurs will be brimming with confidence following their 9-1 thrashing of Wigan but their record at Villa Park is not overly impressive. Tottenham won there last season but that remains their only away win at the Villans in six visits. Martin O’Neill’s team are unbeaten in five at Villa Park (4 wins) so Jermain Defoe will struggle to repeat his 5-goal heroics from last weekend.
The New Football Pools has gathered members of the FWA (Football Writers Association) to get their predictions on the Premier League clashes every week and none of the writers are expecting a home win for Aston Villa. However, all have backed a draw apart the Daily Star’s Danny Fullbrook who is backing Tottenham to pick up an away victory.
The FWA journalists that are tipping a draw at Villa Park include Shaun Custis (The Sun), Paul Hetherington (Daily Star Sunday), Steve Bates (The People), Martin Lipton (Daily Mirror), Patrick Barclay (The Times) and Des Kelly (The Mail).
Are you surprised none of Fleet Street’s finest have backed Aston Villa? Do you think they are right to write off the Martin O’Neill’s side?

The New Football Pools pundits Alan Hansen, Tony Cascarino and Tim Lovejoy have very different views with Alan and Tim backing Villa while Tony joins the majority of the FWA in backing the draw.
Who do you think will win the big match? Why not put your predictive prowess to the test by picking home win, away win or draw for the ten Premier League fixtures for the chance to win the estimated £45,000 Premier 10 rollover jackpot from a mere £1 stake.
A fortnight ago the £45,000 rollover was shared with 6 players winning £7,500. Liverpool fan Mr Kennedy from Huddersfield was one of those. He had this to say, “I really couldn’t believe it when all my selections came up and I had 10 correct results. Being a Football fan and a supporter of Liverpool for many years I do use my football knowledge to predict the results. As this is only my fourth week of playing I really couldn’t believe my luck!
Premier 10 is such a wonderful game. I find the International games far easier than the Premier League. I feel with the Premier League anything can happen and have found that with Liverpool on, dare I say it…..a few occasions of late. This will come in really handy and will pay for a wonderful holiday away at Christmas time. So play now, enjoy the game with the chance to win big on Premier 10!”
Play now and see if Christmas will come early for you on this weekend’s Premier 10!
