The signing of Alberto Aquilani is an interesting one for Liverpool now that Xabi Alonso has finally departed for Real Madrid. There’s no doubt the Italian is a good player, he’s a neat and tidy midfielder who’ll more than likely score more goals than Alonso did. However, he is extremely injury prone and will miss the start of the season so it leaves Rafa Benitez a bit short in the middle of the park.

Rumours are once again circulating concerning Arsenal’s interest in Roma’s young midfield star Alberto Aquilani. The Italian international was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates throughout the summer after struggling to cement a place in the Roma first team due to competition and injury problems. However, this season he’s made 7 League appearances (1 goal) and featured in all 3 of Roma’s Champions League games but due to their lack of finances and poor League position they may be willing to sell.
