Cascarino’s Premier League Preview: Wigan v Aston Villa

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Wigan host Aston Villa tonight in what is a massive game for both clubs at opposing ends of the table. Both teams desperately need to win and although Villa are the form side, I still feel they are capable of slipping on a banana skin or two before the season is out. A trip to the DW Stadium definitely falls into that category.

Alan’s Premier 10 Pick: Stoke v Aston Villa

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Aston Villa face a tough trip to the Britannia Stadium this weekend with Martin O’Neill trying to end his record of never winning a Premier League match in March since joining the club. Martin became manager in August 2006, since then Villa’s league record in March reads - played 11, drawn 4 and lost 7. A visit to Stoke is never an easy match and it’s highly likely that Martin’s March hoodoo will continue.

Cascarino: Spurs Star Crouch Should be Ahead of Heskey & Cole for England

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Wayne Rooney is a certainty to be in the England side in South Africa this summer and I would expect Jermain Defoe to be joining him in the squad as a likely substitute. Who will be paired up front with Wayne is still up in the air with three of those contenders in the squad for tonight’s friendly with Egypt.

Tony Cascarino on England Left-Back Candidates Baines & Warnock

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

There is plenty of debate as to the merits of both Everton’s Leighton Baines and Aston Villa’s Stephen Warnock in regards to making the England World Cup squad. For me, Baines is the one I would choose. There isn’t too much between the two left-backs as both have enjoyed good seasons at club level but the Toffees defender just has the edge.

It’s a Shame Spurs Star Gareth Cannot Bale Out England this Summer

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Ashley Cole is widely regarded as England’s and the Premier League’s best left-back but with the Chelsea defender out through injury, there aren’t too many top-class replacements for Fabio Capello to choose from. Wayne Bridge has been Cole’s understudy at both Chelsea and at international level but after withdrawing from playing for England after the John Terry fiasco, the only two potential candidates are Aston Villa’s Stephen Warnock and Everton’s Leighton Baines. Unfortunately for Capello, the left-back currently performing best in the Premier League is a Welshman, Tottenham’s Gareth Bale.

Cascarino’s FA Cup Pick: Aston Villa v Crystal Palace

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Unfortunately for cash-strapped Crystal Palace I can only see a comfortable win for Aston Villa in this one. Even with the likelihood of changes for the home team with the upcoming Carling Cup final this coming weekend, Villa should have enough strength in depth to go through.

Alan Hansen’s Premier League Preview: Aston Villa v Manchester United

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Champions Manchester United face a tough trip to Villa Park this midweek to face an Aston Villa team with the best defensive record in the Premier League. This promises to be an intriguing clash with both sides in good form and may well be decided by how Villa’s mean defence copes with the league’s top scorer Wayne Rooney.

Alan Hansen’s Premier 10 Preview: Tottenham v Aston Villa

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Tottenham host Aston Villa this weekend in what should be a cracking match. Spurs successfully reached the 5th round of the FA Cup in midweek after an impressive display at Elland Road. Harry Redknapp’s team played some great football on the night and really should have won by more but they face a far tougher test of their credentials against a Villa team that will be full of confidence themselves.
