Rafa Benitez’ chances of bringing Ajax star Luis Suarez to Liverpool this summer are decreasing with the news that Manchester United and Barcelona are stepping up their interest. The Uruguayan international has been in superb form in Holland with reports from the Dutch press suggesting that he will have his pick of three of the biggest clubs in European football at the end of the season.

Nearly every major European club has been alerted to the emergence of yet another top class creative midfield talent in the shape of Sergio Canales. The 18-year-old Racing Santander midfielder has only made 13 league appearances for his club but his three starts in the last three games have yielded four goals including a brace in the 2-1 away win at Sevilla. Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal have been the most strongly linked clubs but Real Madrid and Barcelona are also in the hunt.

Miguel Veloso is set to leave Sporting Lisbon this January with top European clubs Arsenal, Tottenham, Barcelona and Fiorentina all linked with a £9m move. The Portuguese defender come defensive midfielder has been linked to a move to the Premier League for a number of seasons but with his club now looking to sell, he may well be on his way.

Barcelona beat Liverpool to the signing of Brazilian striker Keirrison last summer in a deal worth £12m. However, reports in both Brazil and Portugal suggest the player on loan at Benfica may well be moving to Anfield in January in a 6-month loan deal. Barca’s summer move disappointed Rafa Benitez who had been tracking the youngster for some time had failed with a move in the last January transfer window.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is continuing to monitor the form of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez in regards to a January move. The Ajax star has been in superb form in Holland with reports from the Dutch press suggesting a swap deal involving Ryan Babel and £5m will see the creative star move to Anfield.

Liverpool may well be rueing the fact they missed out on one of European football’s brightest attacking talents in the summer. Four defeats from just nine league matches and the absence of Fernando Torres at the weekend makes the failure to bring in the Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez even more disappointing especially as he has been in breathtaking form for Ajax already this season.

Sir Bobby Robson has died at the age of 76 years old, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. The former Newcastle United, Ipswich Town and England boss was one of the most popular characters in modern football, and will be fondly remembered for both his character and his achievements as a manager across Europe.

Alexander Hleb has moved to his former club Stuttgart on a season long loan deal which is surprising considering the interest from both Inter Milan and the Premier League. Aston Villa and Liverpool were reported to be of interest but surely a player of Hleb’s proven quality would have been of interest to any number of Premier League clubs including Tottenham, Everton and former club Arsenal. After all, a loan move would hardly have been a gamble for a top quality creative player.

Barcelona have announced an agreement to sign Brazilian striker Keirrison in a deal worth £12m subject to a medical this Friday. This news will disappoint Rafa Benitez who had been tracking the youngster for some time and failed with a move in the January transfer window. The deal with the European champions could rise to £14m depending on first team appearances.

Arsenal, Man City and Celtic are turning their attention towards Barcelona’s young central defender Martin Caceres this summer. The Uruguayan has also been strongly linked to Juventus with the Italian club’s administrator Jean-Claude Blanc admitting the interest to Corriere dello Sport, “We are evaluating the possibility to acquire defender Martin on loan from Barcelona.”
