The biggest clubs in Europe have been alerted to the news that Bayern Munich are ready to sell their prized asset and star man Franck Ribery. The 26-year-old is in his 3rd season with the German giants but after an injury hit campaign and almost constant speculation that he will depart, the club look set to sell. Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are amongst a host of top clubs interested in the mercurial Frenchman but they face stiff competition from Spain.

Tottenham have reportedly turned their attention to Dutch star Mark van Bommel after missing out on Patrick Vieira who is nearing a move to former club Arsenal. The Bayern Munich midfielder is expected to be available at a knockdown price of £3m. At 32 the midfielder would arguably be a better signing than Vieira as he has maintained his fitness and was a key member of Bayern’s side that finished Bundesliga runner-up last season.Unlike the former Gunner who has looked a shadow of his former self in recent years, Van Bommel is still playing to a consistently high level.

Alexander Hleb has moved to his former club Stuttgart on a season long loan deal which is surprising considering the interest from both Inter Milan and the Premier League. Aston Villa and Liverpool were reported to be of interest but surely a player of Hleb’s proven quality would have been of interest to any number of Premier League clubs including Tottenham, Everton and former club Arsenal. After all, a loan move would hardly have been a gamble for a top quality creative player.

Alexander Hleb’s agent has declared he is happy at Barcelona despite a disappointing first season with the Spanish champions. However, reports in Spain claim both Liverpool and Aston Villa as well as German giants Bayern Munich remain keen on securing the Belarusian star. The player’s agent Uli Ferber told Sport, “We have four or five offers from England and Germany.”

Alexander Hleb looks set to leave Barcelona after a disappointing first season with the Spanish champions. The 28-year-old started just 8 League games from his 19 appearances and failed to score for the club. He has spoken encouragingly about leaving the Nou Camp which should surely alert a number of clubs in both England and Germany who are more than aware of his talent. He told German newspaper Bild, “I am right in the best years of my career and I do not want to spend those years on bench”.

Reports suggest Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Barcelona, Sevilla, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are targeting the mercurial talents of Bordeaux’s on-loan attacking midfielder Yoann Gourcuff. The French star has been in scintillating form this season in Lique One as his club side sit 2 points behind leaders Marseille and 2 points above reigning champions Lyon. There was much debate as to whether the player would return to AC Milan this summer but coach Carlo Ancelotti’s recent comments suggest Gourcuff has no future at the San Siro. Ancelotti told Tuttomercatoweb, “The return of Gourcuff in the Milan jersey will not be easy, even if it is not impossible.”

Dutch star Mark van Bommel looks set to disappoint a number of Premier League clubs by remaining at Bayern Munich. The midfielder is set to available on a free transfer thus summer as his contract with the German giants ends. At 31 the midfielder still has a number of years left in the game and whether Bayern or one of the Premier League clubs manage to win his signature they will be be signing a player with bags of experience and a winning mentality.

The four Premier League clubs all successfully progressed into the Champions League quarter-finals this week with some more impressive than others. Liverpool produced arguably the result of the round of 16 by winning home and away against Spanish Champions Real Madrid. This includes a 4-0 home thrashing on Tuesday which inflicted Real’s biggest loss in the Champions League era. Rafa Benitez’s side have an excellent record in the competition and after remaining unbeaten against the big English sides domestically they are serious contenders.
