Everton v Newcastle United: Home Sweet Home for the Toffees?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Only Southampton (9) have lost more often at Goodison Park in the Premier League era than Newcastle United. Just what the Toon Army wants to hear at this current time. But Goodison can hardly be called a fortress so far this season; Blackburn, Portsmouth and Liverpool have each left with all three points. So can Newcastle now with a tad more stability following the interim appointment of Joe Kinnear follow suit, rewrite history and rediscover their top flight feet?

Birmingham v QPR: The Blues Have Rangers Jumping through Hoops?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

After getting off to a blinding start, it seems Birmingham’s attempts to re-enter the Premier League has stuttered ever so slightly. So can the Chelsea of the Championship cash in on the Blues dip in form?

Manchester City v Portsmouth: Pompey to be the first victims to the new look Man City?

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

The Manchester City revolution tripped on the first hurdle last weekend and there were some critics (including one or two of our podcasters!) who weren’t the least bit surprised. As we all are very much aware, with money comes expectation and with the amount of money accessible to City, that expectation is mammoth. So winning is priority even more so now.

Birmingham v Blackpool: No Sign of the Blues for Birmingham

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Birmingham remain undefeated in the Championship, a draw against Norwich the only blip on their radar. And it would seem there is very little threat on that barely blemished record here as the Blues face a team who last managed to defeat them away from home in December 1969. So that’s one step close the £225,000 Footy 15 jackpot!

Wigan v Chelsea: No Slip Ups Here as Chelsea Make Up for Last Season?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

If Scolari’s team really are, as Fergie said not so long ago, too old, then we should all look forward to our twilight years! Chelsea were mightily impressive in their first League game under Luiz Felipe Scolari with goals flying in from all over the place; Joe Cole, Anelka, Lampard and Premier League debutant Deco providing the ammunition and with it a stern warning to their number one rivals to the crown.

West Brom v Everton: Sticky Situations Ahead for The Toffees?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

From last season elation to, well, the blues; this appears to be the story for David Moyes’ boys. And if you think that a trip to the Hawthorns is guaranteed all three points, it’s time to think again.

Lee Carsley Leaves Everton as they Bid for Former Liverpool World Cup Finalist

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Long serving Everton midfielder Lee Carsley has left the club on a free transfer with West Brom, Derby and Birmingham reportedly vying for his services. His absence will leave a hole in an already small squad at Goodison. Phil Neville could quite easily slip into the 34-year-old’s boots as the midfield enforcer but reports suggest David Moyes may be targeting an ex-Liverpool player for that role.

Ricardo Carvalho Set to Leave: Is he the Jewel in Chelsea’s Defensive Crown?

Friday, May 16th, 2008

There is mounting speculation that a number of Chelsea players will be leaving this summer and Portuguese centre-half Ricardo Carvalho has announced he could be one of them. Whatever the result of next weeks Champions League final they’ll be a number of players departing and arriving at the Bridge. In some ways the final in Moscow will act as a watershed for the Blues as the squad that Jose Mourinho built is dismantled and rebuilt.

Liverpool to Finally Sign £10million French International Winger

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

The Reds are being linked once again with Florent Malouda the player who turned Liverpool down last summer to join Chelsea. He has hardly set the Premier League alight since his £13.5million move from Lyon after an injury ravaged season. Despite a stop-start debut campaign Malouda has made 37 appearances for the Blues (28 starts) and scored just 4 goals. It would be no surprise if Chelsea were looking to offload the 27-year-old but is he the sort of player Liverpool should be looking to sign?

Chelsea v Bolton: Blues Triumph over Trotters but is it Too Little, Too Late for the Title?

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

The Blues are back to their best, doing what they’ve been good at in recent years - grinding out points and contesting trophies. This weekend they need to better Manchester United’s result at Wigan to win the title despite looking well out of the championship race just 2 months ago. Fortunately for Avram Grant and co. they face a Bolton team assured of Premier League survival barring a miraculous turn of events. Premier 10 players, mark this one down as a home win!
