Birmingham v Blackburn: Blues on Roque Road to Relegation Despite a Point?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Alex McLeish’s Birmingham side slipped into their lowest League position of the season following their dismal defeat at fellow relegation strugglers Fulham last weekend. Their future is no longer in their own hands as they lie a point behind the two sides they are competing with for survival. Unfortunately for the Blues they are about to face a Rovers team with their star forward on a superb scoring streak. That man is the prolific Paraguayan hitman - Roque Santa Cruz.

Bolton, Birmingham, Reading or Fulham – Relegation Beckons But For Which Two

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

The end of the season is nigh and what’s great is competition is still rife in all areas of the league. So with this in mind from now until D-Day, Judgement Day, Silverware Sunday - or whatever appropriately titled pun Sky Sports creatively(!) come up with - I am sticking my neck on the line (after looking at the stats mind) and predicting who’ll go down, who’ll lift the trophy and who’ll nap fifth place. Today - it’s the R word.

Newcastle v Chelsea: Blues in Title Slip up at St James’ as Toon Take a Point?

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Chelsea’s charge towards both the Champions League and the Premier League title is in full effect as they’ve steamrollered the opposition in recent weeks. However, despite their winning run, Premier 10 players should be cautious as Avram Grant’s side will be facing a Newcastle side both in top form and with a superb recent home League record against the Blues.

Liverpool v Manchester City: European Heartbreak Comes Back to Give Sven a Headache

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Liverpool’s season effectively ended last night after being knocked out of the Champions League, losing 4-3 to Chelsea on aggregate. So with the Reds playing solely for that proverbial pride, how much desire is there left in the tank?

Fulham v Birmingham: Cottagers Keep their Survival Hopes Alive as the Championship Beckons for the Blues?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

This is arguably the most important Premier League match of the weekend as a defeat for either side will leave them with an uphill task of securing their survival on the last day of the season. The teams directly above this pair (Bolton and Reading) both have home fixtures this weekend which you’d expect them to get points from. So Fulham in particular really do need all 3 points to stand a fighting chance of safety.

Vote Chelsea and Give Manchester United the Premiership Blues

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Ask football fans who they’d prefer to win this season’s Premier League - Chelsea or Manchester United - and it would ultimately come down to which they considered to be the lesser of two evils. For me, that lesser evil is Chelsea which is why, for one week only, I’m fighting for the blue corner.

Chelsea v Manchester United: Red Devils Gain a Point Towards Retaining the Title?

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

When Avram Grant lost his first match in charge of Chelsea at Old Trafford back in September the Blues were written off as title challengers. However, 7 months down the line the Israeli has led Chelsea to within 3 points of leaders Manchester United with 3 games left to play. This is a must win match for the home side if they are to stand any chance of overcoming the Red Devils and to be fair with a home record like theirs anything is possible.

Aston Villa v Birmingham: O’Neill’s Villa Thrillers Give McLeish the Blues?

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

The Second City Derby takes place at Villa Park this weekend in what is always a ferocious, incident packed affair. The clubs are enduring differing seasons with Aston Villa flying high in 7th place whilst Birmingham hover 2 points above the relegation zone. On paper this looks an obvious Premier 10 home win, however, the unpredictability of derby matches makes this a far closer call. There’s an interesting sub-plot to this encounter with two old adversaries set to go at it again.

Birmingham v Everton: Toffees to Take the Points to Keep their Champions League Dreams Alive?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

This is a huge match on your Premier 10 fixture list this week with Birmingham fighting for survival and Everton fighting for not only the last Champions League spot but also to stay in 5th spot as Portsmouth are beginning to bite at their heels. Neither side is in top form and could be missing key players, however, history points towards backing the away side in this one.

Chelsea v Wigan: Title Chasing Chelsea Bridging the Gap?

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Avram Grant’s side have now cut United’s lead at the top of the table to just 3 points and with the Red Devils set to visit fortress Stamford Bridge in the final few weeks of the season the title race is wide open. This match will affect both ends of the table but with the League leaders in Chelsea’s sights it’s hard to look beyond a home win on Premier 10 this weekend.
