Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill has confirmed Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has enquired about signing Villa Captain Gareth Barry which could throw a major spanner in the works of Rafa Benitez’s transfer plans. There’s no doubt that the England midfielder is one of the Reds key targets this summer so to lose out on the player now would seriously jeopardise Liverpool’s title ambitions next season. Particularly if the player chooses to join one of the Reds main rivals instead.

Double Signing of Robbie Keane & Gareth Barry to Give Liverpool the Edge in the Title Race?

Rafa Benitez is reportedly attempting to sign two proven Premier League performers this summer in the shape of Tottenham’s Robbie Keane and Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry.

This is a change in the general transfer policy of the Spaniard since joining the club as he’s generally targeted foreign talent rather than British and Irish.

His three reported targets are Tottenham’s Pascal Chimbonda who may be available for a knock-down price of £2M, Chelsea’s forgotten midfield man Steve Sidwell and Blackburn’s talented right-sided star David Bentley.

Who Should Aston Villa Sign to Replace Liverpool Bound Gareth Barry?

Gareth Barry’s future looks almost certainly to be at Anfield next season after his agent Alex Black stated that the player wished to move to Liverpool this summer. This prompted a Villa spokesman to release a statement that read, “Gareth Barry has stated in discussions with our manager he would like to leave Aston Villa to join Liverpool. But Liverpool’s bid for the player has been rejected and they have been informed of Villa’s continued position in this matter.”

Aston Villa Captain Gareth Barry has given his biggest hint yet that he wants to join Liverpool this summer. Once again an England international has been lured by the big 4 after continually joining up with fellow international squad members who play regularly in the Champions League with their clubs. Just as Michael Carrick left Spurs for Manchester United it would seem that Gareth Barry is heading to Anfield.

Would Liverpool Fans Prefer Xabi Alonso or Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry in their Midfield?

Press reports suggest Liverpool will soon sell Spanish international Xabi Alonso to Juventus in a deal ranging from £12-16 million. If this deal does eventually go through his likely replacement will be Aston Villa’s Captain Gareth Barry. But how would the majority of Reds fans feel about this bit of business?
