Liverpool are the latest of a number of Premier League clubs to cast an admiring eye over Italian starlet Sebastian Giovinco. The diminutive star was the shining light of the Azzuri’s U21 side’s failed bid to win the European championships in Sweden last summer. Despite his impressive displays the 22-year-old is widely regarded as the best young prospect in Italy although he is struggling to earn a starting place in the Juventus side.

There are some intriguing World Cup qualifiers taking place this weekend including England’s trip to the Ukraine. However, as Fabio Capello’s side have already booked their tickets to South Africa their match doesn’t have the same relevance as the likes of the Republic of Ireland’s clash with World Champions Italy.

Interest is mounting for Brazilian hot property Hernanes who is strongly linked with a move to Italy but has also attracted the interest of a number of Premier League sides. Liverpool are the latest club to be linked with the playmaker in the Brazilian press with claims that Rafa Benitez will replace want-away midfield schemer Xabi Alonso with the talented South American.

Liverpool are preparing to step up the chase for Italian international midfielder Gaetano D’Agostino whose expected move to Juventus collapsed recently. The Reds will face competition from Serie A side Fiorentina who are also tracking the talented star.

West Ham are reportedly leading a host of Premier League clubs in the chase for one of Serie A’s young sensations, the 18-year-old Inter striker Mario Balotelli. Gianfranco Zola admitted that he is in negotiations when he revealed, “I have done everything I can to sign Mario and it would be in both our interests and his.” However, Tottenham tried to negotiate a deal back in January and Harry Redknapp is known to be a keen admirer of the youngster. Rafa Benitez is also on the lookout for more strikers to contest a place with Fernando Torres but whether Balotelli will settle for an understudy role is unlikely.

Reports suggest West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola will make a £7m move for Fiorentina’s 23-year-old Argentine striker Pablo Osvaldo now Craig Bellamy’s transfer to Man City has been finalized. The player has struggled to break into the Fiorentina first team and is seemingly deemed surplus to requirements at the club.

West Ham are reportedly attempting to sign one if not the most highly-rated youngster in Italian football, the Juventus midfield man Sebastian Giovinco on loan. The diminutive star is a firm favourite of Hammers manager Gianfranco Zola after the pair worked together for the Italian U21 side. However, despite the interest, the player’s agent Claudio Pasqualini has suggested a move is unlikely.

Rumours are once again circulating concerning Arsenal’s interest in Roma’s young midfield star Alberto Aquilani. The Italian international was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates throughout the summer after struggling to cement a place in the Roma first team due to competition and injury problems. However, this season he’s made 7 League appearances (1 goal) and featured in all 3 of Roma’s Champions League games but due to their lack of finances and poor League position they may be willing to sell.

Arsenal target Sebastian Giovinco looks set to reject overtures from Arsene Wenger and to commit his future to Juventus according to reports this week. The Italian youngster insisted he wants to resolve his contract dispute after playing in the club’s Champions League clash on Tuesday.
