The news of the collapse of Manchester City’s bid to sign Kaka was no real surprise to me as I never thought the player would join the club. To be totally honest the Brazilian is too big a player for the football club in its present position.

John Barnes: Former Liverpool Star on Man City Ambitious Bid for Kaka

There seems to be some debate on whether Manchester City’s huge bid for Kaka is detrimental to football. For me, it has nothing to do with how football is going as a whole, it’s simply a massive statement of intent from City’s new owners. You won’t see the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United spending huge amounts this month even though they are some of the biggest clubs in the world.
