I am shocked with some of the squad selections of the nations going to the World Cup. In comparison to other countries, Fabio Capello’s England squad was generally what we expected with no real omissions that would lead to a public outcry. However, the likes of France, Brazil and Argentina have all disregarded players that I would have thought would have been certs to go the World Cup.

Once again it has gone down to the final day of the season to decide the destination of the Premier League title as Chelsea lead Manchester United by a single point. Despite Sir Alex Ferguson’s team managing to keep the race alive, the final day results at both Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford are highly unlikely to field any surprises.

Reports in the Belgium press suggest Standard Liege will be selling two of their prized assets this summer after a highly disappointing season. Midfield pair Axel Witsel and Steven Defour have been the driving force behind the club in the last few seasons as Standard won back to back league titles. Tottenham will travel to Old Trafford absolutely brimming with confidence ahead of their match with Manchester United this weekend. Harry Redknapp’s young team will be looking to build on home wins over Arsenal and Chelsea with another three points at the Theatre of Dreams. However, for those of you who fancy Spurs chances, the head to head record between these clubs should serve as a warning that United are not a team that the North Londoners fare well against.

Manchester United v Tottenham promises to be the third of a trilogy of Spurs matches against the top three in the country. After beating Arsenal and Chelsea, Harry Redknapp’s side will be looking to complete a famous hat-trick with a win over the current champions. However, the North Londoners record at Old Trafford and away against the ‘big four’ leaves a lot to be desired. Sir Alex Ferguson’s team can go back to the top of the Premier League with a win and with the title back in their sights, it would take a brave man to bet against them this weekend.

The events of the past week give Tottenham a massive psychological advantage in the race for 4th place as they’ve shocked everyone with back-to-back London derby wins over Arsenal and Chelsea. Spurs fixtures were viewed by many including me to be too tough to compete with Manchester City but they’ve ripped up the form book and made their respective run-ins irrelevant as both of these clubs on their day have the talent to beat anyone. This includes City winning at Arsenal and Spurs winning at Manchester United. It is just so unpredictable which makes the chase for 4th spot every bit as exciting as the title race.
