Liverpool v Everton promises to be an intriguing Merseyside derby as both sides have hit a rich vein of form ahead of this clash after relatively disappointing seasons. Rafa Benitez’ team are unbeaten in their last six league matches (four wins) and have kept five clean-sheets in that run. Everton are unbeaten in their last nine league games since losing 2-0 in the last Merseyside derby. They have won four of their last five including clean-sheets in the last three games. These stats suggest that both of these teams should be confident and there is little to choose between the teams.

Liverpool crashed out of the Champions League in midweek while Everton slumped to their 6th defeat in just 13 league games at the KC Stadium. At the start of the season few would have expected the Reds to be sitting 7th, thirteen points behind the league leaders and the Blues 14th just four points above the drop zone at this stage. Unfortunately that’s the situation facing these two great Merseyside clubs following their poor starts to the 2009/10 campaign.
