A number of Premier League clubs have been alerted by the much publicized fall-out between Jeremy Menez and his manager Claudio Ranieri at Roma. The French star is highly-rated but has never fulfilled his early promise shown at Sochaux and Monaco. There’s no doubt that Arsenal are starting to improve and that was always going to happen with players starting to return from injury. Without a doubt the return of Eduardo, Theo Walcott and big guns like Cesc Fabregas will make Arsenal far stronger for the final run in. However, I still feel the midfield is a bit vulnerable, inexperienced and lightweight.

The Arsenal v Roma clash proved to me what I thought already, that the English clubs would have the upper hand over the Italians. If anything, Arsenal may be more suited to the style and tempo of Champions League football.

Roma have not had the best of league campaigns but then again nor have Arsenal. However, I fully expect the Gunners to win this one. The Italian league is not what it once was and we’ve seen they struggle against the pace and fluency of Arsenal in the past in this competition.

Rumours are once again circulating concerning Arsenal’s interest in Roma’s young midfield star Alberto Aquilani. The Italian international was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates throughout the summer after struggling to cement a place in the Roma first team due to competition and injury problems. However, this season he’s made 7 League appearances (1 goal) and featured in all 3 of Roma’s Champions League games but due to their lack of finances and poor League position they may be willing to sell.
