Manchester United and Chelsea are the latest clubs to be strongly linked to the highly talented CSKA Moscow teenager Alan Dzagoev who has been dubbed the ‘New Andrey Arshavin’. If he were to move to Old Trafford he would join a growing number of his compatriots who have moved to the Premier League alongside Arsenal’s Andrei Arshavin, Chelsea’s Yuri Zhirkov, Everton’s Diniyar Bilyaletdinov and Tottenham’s Roman Pavlyuchenko.

There are some intriguing World Cup qualifiers taking place this weekend including England’s trip to the Ukraine. However, as Fabio Capello’s side have already booked their tickets to South Africa their match doesn’t have the same relevance as the likes of Russia’s huge clash with Germany this weekend.

Everton are the latest club to sign a Russian star after Diniyar Bilyaletdinov signed for the club. He joins a growing number of his compatriots who have moved to the Premier League alongside Arsenal’s Andrei Arshavin, Chelsea’s Yuri Zhirkov and Tottenham’s Roman Pavlyuchenko. However, the latest star of Russian football being linked to English clubs is the highly talented CSKA Moscow teenager Alan Dzagoev who has been dubbed the ‘New Andrei Arshavin’.

Russian hitman Pavel Pogrebnyak moved to Bundesliga giants Stuttgart last weekend for a cut-price fee despite Premier League interest this summer. The highly-rated 25-year-old international signed for a mere £4m which prompts the question, why didn’t the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Tottenham take a gamble on him.

Arsenal target Pavel Pogrebnyak has declared his interest in working for Arsene Wenger with a move edging ever nearer. The 25-year-old currently plies his trade for Zenit St Petersburg in his homeland and is rated as one of his country’s top strikers. He rejected a move to Blackburn in January but with his contract set to expire in November he should be available in a cut price deal if the Gunners make their move.

Arguably the best left-back at last summer’s Euro 2008 finals was Russia’s outstanding Yuri Zhirkov. The CSKA Moscow star was in sensational form as the Russians stormed into the semi-finals on the back of a 3-1 win over the Dutch. Despite the loss to Spain a number of the Russian players impressed during the tournament though Arsenal’s Andrey Arshavin received most of the plaudits. However, reports suggest Zhirkov will be the next Russian import to the English top flight with Liverpool set to steal the left-sided star from under Chelsea’s noses.
