Cascarino: Burnley Board Prove ‘Lack of Ambition’ with Laws Appointment

Brian Laws’ appointment at Burnley is a surprise one and you have to ask why they have chosen him. The managerial merry-go-round is in full swing but unlike in most cases, Brian has stepped up a division despite failing at a Championship club whereas usually it is the other way round. He will be as surprised as anyone at this opportunity after a disappointing end to his time at Sheffield Wednesday but it would seem the Burnley board have merely gone for the cheap option.

Sheffield Wednesday v Preston: Smiles All Round as Teams Pick Up a Point?

Talk about from one extreme to the other. Sheffield Wednesday went from an opening day high after their 4-1 defeat of Burnley to a ‘criminal’ performance leading to a 4-1 trouncing at the hands of Wolves a week later.

Once again the destination of the Championship title looks extremely difficult to predict with a number of clubs in with a good shout. There’s the likes of Bristol City, Crystal Palace and Watford who all reached the play-offs last season though the impact of getting so close to promotion could have a negative affect on the players.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY v SHEFFIELD UNITED - STEEL CITY STALEMATE?

This will be the first Steel City Derby for nearly 2 years due to Sheffeld United’s fleeting visit to the Premier League. Neither side can claim to be on form as the Owls flirt with relegation whilst the Blades struggle to climb out of the bottom half of the table despite being one of the pre-season favourites for promotion.

DERBY v SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY - RAMS RELISH A RARE WIN?

The rock bottom Rams take a break from the woes of Premier League football this weekend as they at last play someone beneath them in League football in the shape of Sheffield Wednesday. Paul Jewell’s side have looked a far better outfit in recent weeks but unfortunately they are still losing all the time. One draw is the only positive result they’ve enjoyed since late October, yet it’s not all doom and gloom Derby fans, the Owls aren’t exactly flying themselves!
