Arguably the most intriguing of the FA Cup 5th round ties takes place at St Mary’s where Southampton take on Portsmouth in a South-Coast derby. Despite two divisions separating the two teams this should be a close encounter as the Saints are full of confidence and performing well in League One while Pompey are rock bottom of the Premier League, seriously struggling both on and off the pitch.

Spurs Jermain Defoe’s Penalty Failure Wins Southampton & Swansea Fan’s £10,000!

The £60,000 Premier 10 double rollover jackpot was shared by 6 players last weekend including a Swansea fan and a Southampton fan who won £10,000 each. Despite Chelsea’s defeat at Eastlands, the six winners predicted all ten Premier League matches correctly. The last match of the weekend saw Tottenham cruise to a 2-0 lead only to be pegged back to 2-2 before Jermain Defoe had his last minute penalty saved by Tim Howard. It was not only Everton fans who were celebrating that save.

Gareth Bale v Theo Walcott: Did Tottenham or Arsenal Sign the Better Teen from Southampton?

This week two youngsters who came through the Southampton youth ranks performed superbly for their respective nations on international duty. Great things were expected of both players at St Mary’s prior to Theo Walcott making the move to the Emirates and Gareth Bale signed for Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham.

Southampton v Birmingham: Saints Suffer as Blues Class Tells?

Southampton face the Championship favourites Birmingham this week in what should be a tough encounter for the South Coast side. The Saints financial problems are well documented and this has left new Head Coach Jan Poortvliet with a squad lacking in numbers and experience but perhaps more importantly a desire to do well for the club. However, they face a Birmingham side brimming with players of Premier League quality this weekend particularly up front.

Once again the destination of the Championship title looks extremely difficult to predict with a number of clubs in with a good shout. There’s the likes of Bristol City, Crystal Palace and Watford who all reached the play-offs last season though the impact of getting so close to promotion could have a negative affect on the players.

Blackpool v Southampton: Pearson Picks up a Valuable Point in Bloomfield Road Battle for Survival?

There is an all-Championship match this week on Premier 10 between two sides in the mid to bottom half of the table, Blackpool and Southampton. The League encounter between these clubs back in November was their first meeting for 30 years. The Saints won the match 1-0 through a Stern John goal in the 35th minute. The teams are now separated by just 5 points.
