Tottenham in Trouble: Transfer Policy Fails to Fill Obvious Holes in the Side!

Once again Spurs have begun the season poorly, once again high hopes of a serious assault on the top four positions look to all but have ended despite just four games being played. Much has been made of Tottenham’s transfer policy this summer with the arrivals of genuine young international talent whilst numerous bit-part players such as Teemu Tainio and Younes Kaboul were allowed to leave the club. However, the sale of Spurs main attacking weapons Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane has left the team looking a shadow of their former selves at least offensively.

BLACKBURN v MIDDLESBROUGH - ROVERS RUN OVER MIDDLES-BRAZIL TO CONTINUE?

Gareth Southgate looks set to do a fair bit of business in the January transfer window with a striker high on the list of priorities but its the distant sound of the samba drums that will be exciting the Boro fans. The Riverside has been a haven for a number of Brazilian imports over the years including Juninho (3 spells at the club), Emerson, Branco and Fabio Rochemback. This January there could be a couple more to add to the list in the shape of strikers Afonso Alves and Fred.

Has Anelka Arrived in the Nic of Time for a Chelsea Title Charge?

Chelsea’s title charge was reignited with the signing of Nicolas Anelka in a £15million deal from Bolton last week. The Frenchman joined the 8th club of his nomadic career and has now become the record most expensive player in the world due to his accumulated transfer fees now totalling £87million. That’s a cool £10million more than the previous holder Juan Sebastian Veron and you wouldn’t bet against that figure going up in the future with Anelka’s reputation. The 28-year-old signed a 4 and a half-year deal and went straight into the Blues squad for the 2-0 London derby win over Spurs and impressed as a second half substitute.
