Arsenal, Man City and Celtic are turning their attention towards Barcelona’s young central defender Martin Caceres this summer. The Uruguayan has also been strongly linked to Juventus with the Italian club’s administrator Jean-Claude Blanc admitting the interest to Corriere dello Sport, “We are evaluating the possibility to acquire defender Martin on loan from Barcelona.”

Adebayor the Difference for Arsenal Silverware Hopes Say Tony Cascarino

I fully expect Arsenal to go through to the semi final after the 2nd leg at the Emirates against Villarreal. The Spanish side will struggle at Arsenal as confidence is high amongst the players. The return to fitness of key players such as Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor has strengthened Arsenal further so I expect them to be too strong at home.

Fab & Adebayor’s Return Boosts Arsenal ‘Belief’ Says John Barnes

Arsenal showed an impressive resilience over in Spain in their match with Villarreal which many critics would have argued the lacked. After losing Manuel Almunia to injury, conceding an early goal and generally being outplayed in the first half you would have thought Arsene Wenger’s young side would’ve gone under. Instead, the Gunners weathered the storm and bossed the second half in every department.

Arsenal face Villarreal in the quarter-final 1st leg tonight and they will remember fondly beating their Spanish opponents in the 2006 semi-finals. Despite being unfancied for the trophy, they Yellow Submarine have still shown they can handle the best and are very much dark horses.

Alan Hansen: Fabregas v Senna is the Key to Arsenal Success Against Villarreal

Arsenal are doing very well at the moment and with their big players all returning such as Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor they will fancy their chances against Villarreal. I think Arsene Wenger will be overjoyed to have avoided the fellow English clubs and of course Barcelona at this stage. If he could have handpicked any side to meet in the quarter-finals then it would have been the Villarreal.

Can Barca or Bayern Stop the Premier League Big Four Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool & Chelsea?

The four Premier League clubs all successfully progressed into the Champions League quarter-finals this week with some more impressive than others. Liverpool produced arguably the result of the round of 16 by winning home and away against Spanish Champions Real Madrid. This includes a 4-0 home thrashing on Tuesday which inflicted Real’s biggest loss in the Champions League era. Rafa Benitez’s side have an excellent record in the competition and after remaining unbeaten against the big English sides domestically they are serious contenders.
