Cascarino’s Premier League Preview: Wigan v Aston Villa

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Wigan host Aston Villa tonight in what is a massive game for both clubs at opposing ends of the table. Both teams desperately need to win and although Villa are the form side, I still feel they are capable of slipping on a banana skin or two before the season is out. A trip to the DW Stadium definitely falls into that category.

Alan Hansen’s Premier 10 Pick: Bolton v Wigan

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Both Wigan and Bolton have given themselves some breathing space following recent victories but a win this weekend for either side would go some way to ensuring Premier League survival. The Latics will be full of confidence following an impressive first win against Liverpool in the club’s history. That victory ended Wigan’s 7-match league run without a win and should lift spirits ahead of yet another massive clash this weekend.

Rafa’s Wigan Woe & Last Minute Forest Winner Scoops Rams Fan £10,000!

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Rafa Benitez slammed his Liverpool side for their poor display in the 1-0 defeat at the DW Stadium on Monday night. This was the first time that Wigan had been able to beat the Reds in their history and seriously dented Liverpool’s hopes of Champions League qualification through a fourth placed finish. Despite the return to fitness of Glen Johnson and Fernando Torres, Benitez’ side were unable to break the home side down.

Alan Hansen’s Premier 10 Pick: Wigan v Liverpool

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Roberto Martinez’ has endured a tough first season as Wigan manager as his team have struggled for consistency. The Latics face a real battle to survive in the Premier League and sit a mere 1 point clear of the relegation zone. Wigan need to pick up wins and fast but with Liverpool the visitors to the DW Stadium this weekend that seems unlikely. Especially now Fernando Torres is back from injury and fresh from scoring last time out against Blackburn.

Alan Hansen’s Premier League Preview: Birmingham v Wigan

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Wigan face another tough fixture this weekend when they travel to St Andrews’ with just 2 points separating the Latics from the relegation zone. Roberto Martinez has not enjoyed the best of first seasons in charge and needs to halt a win-less run of 6 matches (3 defeats) as soon as possible. That seems highly unlikely this weekend as Birmingham are unbeaten in their last nine at home although they have lost back-to back league games for the first time since November.
